This cafeteria-style buffet is located in the mall, has ample parking, and has an inviting and pleasant ambiance. We arrived an hour before opening, not realizing the time difference between Texas and New Mexico so we walked around the little mall until opening time. Hobbs Buffet is a former Furr's that has been purchased by new owners who kept most of the menu items, as well as the buffet format, in place. There are still some signage in place that indicate that this was once a Furr's. However, there is an addition of Vietnamese offerings which sets this place apart from a typical cafeteria. The management and employees were very friendly and certainly went out of the way to make sure my family and I had a good lunch. The food is fresh, the portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable with a senior citizens' discount available. They serve Coca Cola products at Hobbs Cafeteria. I will certainly return the next time I am in the area!

My family members have service dogs that are "medical service dogs" we had to wait for the people in front of us, and all the ones behind us to get their tables. My family members told the hosts that they are discriminating because they had "service dogs" and that she was going to call corporate and the medical association to report the discrimination from the hosts and front desk. After my family member told them that, they proceeded to sit us down in the corner as she had a very angry face. After we had finished our meal, my family member went to the front to ask for the hosts name, the lady refused to give her name as my Aunt stated she was going to contact the owner/corporate a lot this issue. If you have a "service dog" be prepared to be waiting longer than someone who don't. We will never eat here again. We are looking into possible legal action

I have noticed better flavors out of some of the dishes that I wasn't crazy about before. Same great service from the host/owner, Mr. Lin. I just love the koi in the pond up front. BLUF. The food was very good, the service was very good and it was clean and tidy…read more My hubby and I tried the Cattle Baron. We are in Portales for the weekend. He ordered the baby back ribs and I had the chopped steak. The food came out hot and correct. The ribs were delicious and tender. The meat fell off the bones. The bbq sauce was excellent. He also had mashed potatoes and lemon garlic asparagus. We asked the server to make the asparagus soft and they did it very well!! They were delicious! Very tasty and just right. I had the chopped steak with sweet potato. The mushroom gravy was very thick almost pasty but tasted great. The sweet potato came with cinnamon sugar butter. It was perfect. I also had the salad bar and it was very well stocked. We ended with the chocolate mousse cake. The cake was VERY chocolatey, rich and delicious. Bathrooms were clean too. It doesn't look like much outside but it's worth the trip.

Boy are we glad we did! The restaurant is very quaint and clean, the service was GREAT, and the food was AMAZING. We had egg rolls, egg drop soup, Pork Egg Fu Young and Shrimp with Lobster sauce. The food was so good we ordered more egg fu young and an order of Almond Chicken to take home. The shrimp was so fresh and the chicken was tasty. I love how they put thin slices of pork on top of the egg fu young with the gravy. That way you can taste the wonderful, fluffy texture of the egg fu young patties and enjoy the meat on the side. We live 2 hours away but plan on going back again very soon, I will definitely drive 2 hours just to eat there.
