Decorated beautifully on the inside, Shanghai 1930 has a ton of heritage! I came here with a group, the washrooms were clean, with two or three stalls inside. In the front, there are large cymbals with notes located on the cymbal (however, due to the different sizes, they are not within the same octave. The floor is made with large cobblestones. After talking to the boss, I found out that these tiles were here ever since 1930 in Barcelona and is beautifully kept). They own many turtles inside a large tub. These turtles are super hungry for food!
If you're a big fan of TVB, you will find photos of TVB's "the three musketeers" with the owner of this shop located in a frame at this restaurant. Around the store, there are many antique paintings, briefcases, etc. It turned out that the briefcases were the luggages that the owner used when he immigrated to Spain.
The soup was delicious and the food adhered to Hong Kong tasting food. The greens were not overly oily and the rice was actually white rice - I expected harsher textured rice, but it was really similar to the ones I eat back in Markham. The beef and chicken weren't overly cooked. I suppose, if I were to rate this place back In Markham, I would give it a 3 star because it was really average, but the fact that I found it in Barcelona?! BONUS star, and learning about the heritage and background behind this place? Another bonus star!! This was my favourite Chinese restaurants out of the four restaurants I had in Portugal and Spain. read more
