If you're looking for a GOOD fish 'n chips place, this is it! Here's my criteria on fish and chips: 1. Not too oily or heavily seasoned 2. More fish than batter 3. Fish should taste fresh and the batter should be light and crispy Honey Pot meets all of the above. It's a small deli-style shop so you walk up and order your food. There's a couple of teeny tables and chairs to sit in front if you like. But me and wifey usually take our food towards the water for a meal and a view. We both typically get 1 order each and it's neither too little or too much. I have a bigger and 'meatier' appetite than my wife, but I grab any leftovers from her so it works out pretty well. The fish is perfectly cooked: Soft and hot on the inside, nice and crispy on the outside and it's not overly battered, burnt or oily... It's what I would consider the perfect battered fish. There's no heavy seasoning (of salt or anything else) which I appreciate. They give you a slice of lemon and you can opt to get sauce (which we do) to give the fish more flavour. The chips too are perfectly fried with the outside being nice and crispy and the inside being soft and hot. Other than that, the service speed is neither lightening fast nor is it unbearably slow. And the place is deli-style small so don't expect a quick turnaround if there's a line. But what I will say is that if you happen to be waiting - the food will be worth the wait. I never thought finding a fish and chip shop along Redcliffe beach would be so hard but I had a hankering for F&C and wasn't going to settle for a cafe or pub meal so we vowed to keep walking until we found the real deal. And Honeypot was worth the walk. For $7.20 you can get a fantastic battered fish and chips and if you are feeling nostalgic why not grab a Chiko roll. For fans of authentic potato cakes/scallops which are a full slice of spud you should steer clear...it may fool some but there was no slice of potato to be seen, just mashed up spud shaped into a sneaky slice shape. But that was not enough to dampen my enthusiasm for the crisp, perfectly cooked chips without a hint of excess oil, the firm battered fish and crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside chiko roll. So I found myself in Redcliffe on a warm spring day, looking for something to eat. Meal of choice when by the sea is fish and chips. I wandered the area, but with Sunday markets on it was all quite busy and I was about to give up when I wandered up to a quieter part of the Esplanade, and here I found Honeypot. They had a bit of a queue going on, but I decided to give them a go. While they are away from the crowds, the shop IS located above the lagoon, which is quite a popular place, so that would explain all the people waiting to order. Was it stand out? Not really. Pretty standard food. Staff were polite enough, not rude, but not overly friendly. If you just want some no nonsense fish and chips, it's not a bad spot. Can you get fancier? Yes. Can you get better? Worst place I have ever been. I bought a Hawaiian pack, I got home and opened it up and ate some chips out of it to only find out that there was a long black hair.... Definitely wasn't mine as my hair is not long and black. I then proceeded and rung them up to ask if there is anything that they can do with my order and they called me a liar and then hung up.
