The lovely ladies working the counter are making GREAT fish and chips with a smile and service. If you ask for your chips well done they come golden and crispy (none of those limp pale things I complain about at other locations). They are busy and there is a good reason for it. With fresh fish and good product this is the place to come for your fish and chips in the Everton Hills/McDowell area. We haven't tried them but there is also burgers on the menu. Call ahead if you can as orders placed in person do take up to 1/2 hour when they're busy. Note they close strictly at 7.30 so often stop answering the phone at 7ish if they have a lot of orders. I'm so glad I gave these guys another go and can finally say I've found a good fish and chip shop for those lazy dinners.

On the weekends you can be waiting up to twenty minutes from when you place your order. This is not because they're short staffed but because the demand for their good is pretty much well justified. The prices are pretty cheap, you'll find that the works burger, which is stacked massive, is fewer than nine-dollars and the majority of fish and chip meals for one will be under the ten-dollar mark. The service is always friendly, no matter how under the pump they are, and being from Redcliffe the fish is always fresh. For the cheap price you always get a great meal from this place and the views from the Pelican Park across the road are priceless.

We ended up waiting 15 mins for our order and it seemed they had a good efficient system going. Excellent service too - smiles all round from the staff who seemed unphased by the crowd. As for the food - you can get fish, chicken or the inescapable potato scallops, that's about it. We had popper chicken, chips and scallops with a $1.20 tub of sauce. Now personally I think charging for sauce is a crime but I don't begrudge the small business owner the chance to increase their margins. And it was good nosh, enjoyed in the shade on a warm day amongst other happy customers. We will be back, and next time will probably take our paper bundle of yumminess down to the beach!

We have arrived about 6:30pm at night and have had to wait close to 30 minutes for our order because of the sheer number of people also there, hungrily awaiting their food. The service is from teenagers and you can tell that most of them don't care about anything except grooving to the too loud music (which would be okay if it was half decent music!) What really disappoints is that they have a big lunch only menu which included some burgers and options other than fish, but of course, that's only at lunch time. Parking is a bit sucky Your better off going next door to the kebab shop, amazing service, and even more amazing food!!

George's is a humble looking establishment. It's nothing flash on the inside, it's merely functional, good for pumping out the burgers. They do classic snackbar food here- fish and chips, burgers, hot sandwiches, all of that sort of business. It's dirt cheap, salty and fatty. It's everything you want from a snackbar. Fish should taste fresh and the batter should be light and crispy Honey Pot meets all of the above. It's a small deli-style shop so you walk up and order your food. There's a couple of teeny tables and chairs to sit in front if you like. But me and wifey usually take our food towards the water for a meal and a view. We both typically get 1 order each and it's neither too little or too much. I have a bigger and 'meatier' appetite than my wife, but I grab any leftovers from her so it works out pretty well. The fish is perfectly cooked: Soft and hot on the inside, nice and crispy on the outside and it's not overly battered, burnt or oily... It's what I would consider the perfect battered fish. There's no heavy seasoning (of salt or anything else) which I appreciate. They give you a slice of lemon and you can opt to get sauce (which we do) to give the fish more flavour. The chips too are perfectly fried with the outside being nice and crispy and the inside being soft and hot. Other than that, the service speed is neither lightening fast nor is it unbearably slow. And the place is deli-style small so don't expect a quick turnaround if there's a line. But what I will say is that if you happen to be waiting - the food will be worth the wait. Trust me. *Man, just thinking about it now, I want some!! Highly recommend. If you want some really good fish and chips, go here. Price came to $8 per person with a sauce.

For fans of authentic potato cakes/scallops which are a full slice of spud you should steer clear...it may fool some but there was no slice of potato to be seen, just mashed up spud shaped into a sneaky slice shape. But that was not enough to dampen my enthusiasm for the crisp, perfectly cooked chips without a hint of excess oil, the firm battered fish and crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside chiko roll. Head down to the beach and enjoy the view while you eat. If your lunch is anything like what we enjoyed you will not be sharing any chippies with the seagulls.
