We stopped by over the weekend for the Honeybee Festival and really enjoyed all the activities available. There were a number of educational opportunities for adults and kids to learn about the bees. There were also vendors, food trucks and a huge bouncy castle. We watched two educational events, ate at a couple food trucks and bought some honey products home. The only downside is the parking. Parking spots filled up fast and then you have to park at a side street and walk some distance. read more

I love the food at Beestro! We've eaten at the Beestro twice now, and the food is fresh, delicious, better-than-homemade (I'm not a good cook...). The atmosphere is very casual and relaxing. We ordered a bunch of stuff to try, and everything tasted great! Morning buzz oatmeal - I ordered so much food that the nice waitress actually asked if I wanted the "small size" oatmeal, which I later learned was on the Kid's Menu. :D I gladly accepted. This was soothing to the stomach. Texture was good, and it was delicious. I would order it again. Honey Bacon Chicken salad with honey poppyseed dressing - this was so refreshing, even my meat-eating partner who has a strong preference for non-vegetable foods liked it a lot. All the flavours blended together harmoniously, and the warm chicken breast strips were top notch quality. I wonder if they get their veggies from a nearby farm because all the ingredients tasted really fresh. Scones - These are huge. Great texture and not too heavy, a little crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Each scone is served with a huge pot of devonshire cream topped with honey. I like that the plain scone is not sweet. It's just a plain good scone. We liked it enough to order half a dozen to take home. Grown up grilled cheese - my partner really liked it. This grilled cheese tastes very "honest". It's a good amount of real, good quality cheese. No cutting corners here. The panini bread didn't seem to have been buttered much so it actually didn't taste buttery or feel greasy. Service was great, friendly and efficient. The waitress actually recognized us from our first visit 2 months ago. I thought that was amazing. read more

My family and I decided to drop by their annual Honeybee Festival. Lots of interesting information, including a demo on beekeeping and putting on a bee beard! During the festival, they rented a bouncy castle and even hired Urban Safari to show everyone some animals. I ended up purchasing some high end honey and pollen. I take bee pollens and honey almost every day but I don't buy local farm honey or pollens. Until my mom told me that they have manuka honey imported fr Australia and I made the trip all the way to Surrey Honeybee centre. I believe all the honeys are pure but not sure why just a bit watery than I order fr Thailand or Australia. Anyway, they have a lot of flavours and products in shop. read more

I never would have expected high tea at the Honey Bee! Price is reasonable $22pp (apparently it was only $16 previously) Portions are HUGE! I was stuffed by the end of it Not the typical 1/4 sandwiches like other tea places The egg salad sandwich was yummy! Loved the scone as well Devonshire cream with honey was Delish! I would definitely come back. Only annoying part is depending where you come from, you may not necessarily turn into the honey bee and have to drive a long drive uphill before taking a U-Turn back down the hill to enter the parking lot. Long overdue for a post, I was invited to join M (from One More Steep) on her high tea adventures. Today we visited Fry's Corner Beestro located in the Honeybee Centre for their $20 High Tea. We were seated promptly and our waitress apologized for the large party (three tables of people... one being all full of kids) behind us being very noisy. Well, we didn't want it to ruin our time, but to be honest, having to yell at someone sitting across from you for high tea wasn't what I had in mind. We were started with our choice of tea, I chose the Blossoming Organic Green Tea. This was a light fragrant green tea, not very bitter and went well with honey. M chose Nana's Garden which was an herbal tea. It was tart and refreshing. Onto the food! I was surprised at the amount of food we got! I started with the Chicken, brie & Pepper Jelly panini (which we both got two of!). This was amazing. The bread was crispy, flavorful and the savory juicy chicken breast contrasted well with the red pepper jelly. The Brie added a good moisture and creaminess to the sandwich. The Egg Salad Roll and Artichoke Ciabatta were average, fresh ingredients and tasted good but not as amazing as the panini. Onto our top tier goodies! The Honeycomb Scone with Devonshire cream was fluffy and moist. The cream was light and sweetened with honey, not overbearing. A pleasant combination. From the sweets, the Salted Honey Tart stood out, as it was packed with flavor. Smooth honey filling with salt contrast and a crunchy crust--scrumptious! Overall I enjoyed the food and friendly staff were attentive amidst the chaos behind me with the big group. Hopefully the next time we visit it will be more serene! A bonus for visiting at this time of year are the beautiful cherry blossoms in full bloom on the patio! We also shopped around for honey at the shop =) read more

Honey there is great but the service is horrible. My wife had some questions about their product and the lady working there didn't care to help her when we wanted to learn more about the products. The sad thing is if they just gave a little bit of service we would have even bought more products on top of the honey like the skin care as well products. My wife just had questions about where's the raw honey. And the lady screamed at my wife and made her feel threatened... I felt like she didn't want us there. We only ended up buying half the things we wanted. It's a shame. We were really excited to go. What a toxic place. How hard is it to help when we have a question. Is it too much to answer a simple question when we're willing to spend 200$ over there? After we spoke to the manager she didn't care too much. Didn't even care to ask what happened to get details. I... am a honey freak. I admit it. I could eat honey every single day. Like winnie the pooh, but with a pseudo-fro (afro) and freckles. We stopped in here just spontaneous this weekend because we were in the area. Picked up some clover honey, some cinnamon honey, some cone, and some honey sticks. The staff were friendly, engaging, and informative. I got to sample honey from all over the place, local honey, and their signature mixtures. You know what else is awesome? Local farmers in BC rent the bees of this center to polinate their fields in the spring/summer, so the blueberry honey is from richmond blueberries, the apple honey is from okanagan apples. If that isn'e amazing, I don't know what is. Phew! I've had a busy weekend! this is my 4-5 review today! read more

One strange hungover Sunday, we had a vomit activity day, and after seeing owls and their vomit "pellets" we headed down a winding Surrey street to Honeybee Centre, where I vomited behind their dumpsters from car sickness and then went inside to buy some delicious bee vomit for my tea. It was a really neat little place, full of different kinds of honey - I honestly had no idea there are different kinds of honey! But I suppose when I puke it's different depending on what I eat, so when bees puke it's the same deal. Except that theirs is much more palatable than mine is. My favorite is clover honey. I know this because there is a TASTING BAR. You can actually try all the different honeys before choosing one. There is also honey soap, beeswax candles, beeswax for making your own candles, Burt's Bees stuff, bee pollen for allergies, and more. So much vomit! read more

I had NO idea the Honeybee Centre existed until today. Today was dubbed "the birds and the bees" day, as we arrived here after visiting OWL rehabilitation society. This was awesome! I am normally fairly indifferent to honey, but I was presented with SO. MANY. KINDS. to test. Yes. There is a dipping station and a toothpick disposal bowl. The Clover honey was my favourite, and I bought a little jar of it for about $5. I also really liked the Cinnamon honey, but I'm not sure what I would want to use it for, so I left it for next time. I wanted a small jar of the Blueberry honey but sadly they were sold out of the size I wanted. There is a section at the front where you can get little honey tubes (kind of like a tiny freezie?) of different flavoured honey. I saw a lot of random flavours like Amaretto, Blackberry, Lime, Vanilla and so on. They also carry a wall of Burt's Bees products, a ton of beeswax you can melt down to craft with, pretty candles, baked goods, soaps, other pollen products, and probably a ton more. There is also an educational area in the back with live honey bees, but I didn't really see any of it because I didn't feel like paying the $5 fee. This would be a great stop for fresh local honey products if you're visiting from out of town! read more

A really interesting place with ALL sorts of honey. I didn't know, for example, that honey NEVER goes bad. Not only does it sell honey - the variety of which makes it the go to place to buy honey, but it also serves as an educational place mainly geared towards kids. I had my pre-schooler go through it with their class of 20 kids and it was too many kids. I think it would be suitable tour for 10 or so kids MAX. Kids have such a short attention span that when they're cooped up for too long they get stir crazy. Great and unique concept to be sure, but they've got to do a little better to make it a little better of an experience. read more

This is in reference to their afternoon tea selection. The food was decent enough that I went back a second time with another group of friends, but mostly because I was excited about having an afternoon tea option close to my home. Overall, the ambiance was not quite right for afternoon tea - it FELT like a bistro trying to offer more than it was ready for. It didn't help that both times, the waitresses didn't seem to know what was on the menu, and had to go in the back to find the answer to our questions each time. I wouldn't discourage anyone from going here, but I also wouldn't recommend it if someone asked me for a place to go. read more

Took my 7 year old daughter for a mommy & me High Tea date last week. It was wonderful. We both enjoyed the food. She used to hate sandwiches - and after her high tea experience she now loves grill cheese sandwich. The server was great considering how busy he was. Besides this place being outrageously expensive, it's pretty fun to try all the honey. To my surprised I love caramelized honey. The secret gem with this place though is the "beestro." The restaurant attached to the bee centre has the most amazing salads. They also offer high tea, I have not yet tried the high tea, but I will eventually. I had the squash salad and it was delicious! I've been to both, however, this is a review for the newly located Main street location that just opened last Saturday, as soon as that listing is up I will be moving this review there. My experience at both has been the same, however, it is nice to have a store that is literally a few blocks from my favorite record store. They got my attention on Car Free Day with their demo of bees. The whole store is filled with everything honey related. A bit too big for the space, therefore, I am hoping that they will be able to make things work given the real estate in the area. They were still setting up, however, clearly they have an organized game plan in mind. The lady at the til was super sweet and helpful. I shared some honey sticks with my best friend, however, he ate most of it. read more

What an epic disappointment. This used to be a really cool place. They used to have toys for kids and beauty products at the front of the store. And now there's nothing but honey, and it's all hellishly overpriced. There used to be things besides bees, too. Stick bugs, giant snails, a cobalt blue tarantula- and now it's a cafe. How does that even compare to cool ass bugs? This place is more about money than bees now. Not worth it anymore. Won't be returning. read more

I used to be a loyal customer and loved dropping into the Honeybee Center when I was in area. I should preface by saying it is extremely hard to get to the Honeybee center. It is located in the middle of nowhere at Fraser Hwy and Hwy 15 - not near any other amenities. Also depending on which direction you are coming from it can be tricky to get to the parking lot. Until 3 weeks ago it was worth it, but me and my out-of-town guest were treated so poorly, I am definitely never going back. First of all, we raced from Guildford (where we had a prior engagement) to make it there before it closed at 7:00pm and make it at 6:40 pm. However the parking lot gate was already closed and locked. There was a security guard sitting in his car who reluctantly got out to open it for us. First strike. Second of all, from the moment we entered the store, one of the workers/clerks kept counting down how long we had until the store would be closing. For example, she would announce to us "Just to let you know, the store is closing in 10 minutes." Furthermore, there were 3-4 clerks working and they started conversing with each other as if the store had already closed and there were no customers. No one asked us if we needed any help and in addition no one seemed that interested in helping us. Instead, we were made to feel that we were a nuisance for even being there at that time. When we were ready to pay for our purchases, the same clerk who was announcing when the store was closing rang us up. While ringing us up she barely made any eye contact or smiled - despite my out-of-town guest's attempt to make friendly conversation. When we exited the store it was still not quite 7pm so despite our arriving late, we made it out on time and did not cause any delay. I asked my friend if she noticed how rudely we were treated - she concurred and said she felt very uncomfortable. A week later I sent an email through the HoneyBee Center website sharing my experience. However despite messaging informing me that someone would respond in 2-3 business days, I have not yet heard back almost 2 weeks later. It is clear to me that the HoneyBee Center does not appreciate my business. I went through my receipts recently and calculated that in the past year I have easily spent on average $75 per visit. I am more than happy to give my hard earned money to other similiar companies in the Fraser Valley who appreciate and value my business. read more

Very disappointing. We drove down from Vancouver to the Honeybee Centre hoping that our two young teens could learn something about the honey making process. When we arrived, we were ushered into the "bug' room. A mom with two young children had comandeered the space, and we weren't really able to take advantage (although truthfully it was set up for young children). We then were shown into the honey lab area. The female staff member turned off the lights and started us with an informational video. Within 10 minutes, another staff member threw on the lights and came in with the mother with two young children who started running around and yelling. It was very disruptive and we couldn't finish the video. When we asked the mother to quiet the kids down a bit, she acted like she didn't understand English. We told the staff that it was like a circus in the lab, but the young staff members didn't seem equipped to handle it. Just a quick note...there were no tours (it was all self-interactive). Overall, a waste of money, and a long drive down for nothing. read more
