We stopped in for dessert after having dinner just around the corner on a tranquil summer evening in late January. They menu sports lots of interesting sounding items and perhaps we made a poor choice. Our chocolate milkshake wasn't quite what we were expecting and we were a bit underwhelmed. While beautiful looking, it was really just chocolate milk with a heap of whipped cream on top-not the thick rich predominantly ice cream treat of the states. They had a nice looking menu, and Hobart didn't strike me as being overly strong on dessert indulgences. What I tried was sugary and fancy. The counter service contributed to something of a lack of character; I didn't feel like I was getting the personal touch of some of Australia's best cafes, but if you need a dessert, it's certainly tasty. read more

Went looking for dessert and definitely found great casual options here. Decided on the black skillet cookie and a decaf espresso. It took awhile to get but all was delicious! Only down side was the crowded and not so cleaned up spaces to eat. The couch seating at the tables were less than comfortable but for a casual spot it was fine. One of the more trendy Hobart/Salamanca dessert places. It's usually packed (even during the post Covid reopening phase) and the music is LOUD and the walls echoey, so be prepared to do a lot of lip reading or be saying "What? Excuse me? What was that?"- probably not an ideal location for a first date! The dessert menu isn't huge, and not a ton of variety (cookies and brownies mostly, with various toppings and accoutrements) but they always seem better on the menu than when they're in front of you. Extremely sweet (almost a given for a dessert menu), but it's almost difficult to finish an item before you get sugared out. Ironically, the Hot Chocolate is quite bitter and the coffee not a whole lot better. I don't do sweet stuffs, but I do do tea. We headed here for an after dinner treat for my sweet toothed company. I liked the layout of the place, although for that time of night (and how much wine I'd had at dinner) it was a little bright for my liking. Lots of lights, ample space, wooden tables and almost kitsch decorations. They got stuck into bread and butter pudding while I enjoyed a pretty gorgeous floral tea. Now, while I didn't eat the pudding, it looked damn impressive. Layers upon layers covered with ice cream with an extra pot of some kind of vanilla looking sauce. HB. DESSERT. GOOD TIMES. I'm talking in all caps because that's what you have to do in Honey Badger to hold a conversation, judging by the volume level in there. Thankfully I haven't had to hold a conversation because I take myself on dates to HB and spend a good hour or so indulging and writing in my notebook and bemoaning the volume level. If HB made sure there was a menu on every table at all times, no links would be missed, but as is they try to keep tabs on numbers and run menus out as you arrive... which is then a little misleading because you order and pay at the counter. Sit down, read your menu, make your decisions and then jump up and order. I recommend the soda refreshments on the drinks page as a sweet accompaniment, these are gonna be a go-to for me in summer. But what you really want here is desserts. Why even offer a couple of savoury dishes? Get rid of them. All dessert all the time is what I'm talking about. I won't rest until I've tried everything on the menu. Decent servings and interesting treats! Excellent opening hours! Don't be put off by the huge volume as you enter, there's still probably space for you. read more

Super cute spot that is basically the only 'late night dessert' spot in Hobart. We ordered the chocolate chip cookie skillet, and it was super instagrammable-topped with beautifully toasted marshmallows. The marshmallows were the best part of the dessert, as the cookie lacked any flavor or sweetness. The dessert just lacked any ooey chocolate goodness or decadence, but is fine for people who prefer their desserts less sweet (or not sweet at all). read more

Wow originally came to try the Menu and it did not disappoint. The Tapioca was brilliant - sweet smooth with vanishing quality, it did not last on the dish. Got a black pannokie without almonds. Overall it was really good. The marshmallow was delicious. The cookie was not a good texture. Very crumbly and dry and grainy. The brownie in a friends dish was delicious. I would say the best possible combo here would be a brownie with marshmallow and hot fudge and vanilla ice cream. read more

There was a woman standing at the front of the restaurant turning people away saying they were full up... even tho there were at least 5 tables available.
