We were staying just above the wharf and spent about 20 minutes walking over. They had a great array of crusty, sweet and savory pastries, pies, and breakfast items. Perhaps the most impressive thing was the fact that their list of specials took up an entire chalkboard. Everything from sweet rolls too, wallaby and rabbit, pie, to some delicious eggs Benedict and a big English breakfast. They had something for everybody, and everything was really good! The place is housed in a relatively old building with a lot of character! Not so old that you're worried that you would find petrified things in the wall, but old enough that you definitely know the place has had a chance to fall over and won't. The staff was really nice, took great care of us and found us seats very quickly, despite the place being busy. All in all, this is a must check out spot whenever you are in town!

I was just going to takeaway but it was nice and quiet and there was a ridiculous amount of bench seating, with one little corner spot calling my name, so I ordered a large flat white (drinking coffee to warm up is such a novelty for a Queenslander) and took a seat. I noted both breakfast and lunch menus in the window, with breakfast ending at 11:30am... but then I overheard the beautiful words: "we do an all-day breakfast on weekends". Guuuuuuurl, you know how I roll. The service was really sweet and welcoming, and the coffee was indeed very well made! I regret that I wasn't hungry, but I'll definitely be back to take the menu for a spin. P.S. Every second Friday (or thereabouts) there's a seven-course tasting dinner, so you can bet I'll be back to get in on that some time very soon.

We managed to negotiate our way into the corner despite your staffer's grave resistance to it (the hesitation being that us sitting in the corner would leave a single seat either side of us and heaven forbid solo diners from existing... we promised to move if the situation arose, and funnily enough, it didn't). Your menu (no longer presented on a wooden cube) is so expensive. The four cheese toastie was beautiful, but $18? And forgive me, but does anyone actually pay $20 for that porridge? And is a half hour wait for food really that great when you've got your prep piled on counters and only half a dozen seated customers? The coffee is still good.

For breakfast however, it wasn't very good for me as there were very limited lower carb/higher protein items. We ordered an almond croissant and a sausage and shiraz roll along with a flat white coffee. We sat outside as they didn't have the AC running and it was really way too warm inside. They have table service inside and servers that run out the food you had ordered at the counter. They were all super friendly and even asked if everything was satisfactory as they cleared our table. Unfortunately, neither of the baked goods were great. The almond croissant had a nicely laminated dough although it needed a tad of salt. The dough was buttery however lacking flavor most likely due to a lack of salt in the butter they used in the dough. The filling was almost like really dense cake batter with basically no almond flavor - the texture seemed almost right, maybe they forgot the almond paste or almond extract. We are used to a much, much stronger flavored almond croissant with almond paste inside. There were nicely toasted almond slices on the top. The sausage roll was a real disappointment. Although it looked really nice it was very heavy, seemed greasy and had two fundamental flaws. The dough was too thick around the sausage so when they wrapped it and baked it there was way too much dough and it was actually nearly raw all along the bottom edges. The sausage was not crumbled or taken out of the casing so when you bit through the roll (or even cut it as we did) the entire sausage slipped right out of the dough and left a big empty hole! It did have nice caramelized onions and some herbs or spinach (didn't eat enough to know exactly!) between the dough and sausage - they might have contributed to the wet/raw sogginess of the dough if they were not cooked enough and then released water into the dough. They were very gracious when I asked if I could get a refund for the sausage roll as I could not find anything else I wanted to get as a replacement. Our server could not have been any more professional and nice about it. He got approval from his manager and gave us the refund. The flat white was very good. If I needed to eat some lovely desserts I'd give them another try given their professional staff and good service.

Kara, that menu item that I settled on--don't call it a "chicken salad". You're fooling everyone. I almost skimmed right over it because I didn't feel like a salad. It's not a salad; it's a slice of heaven. Cold soba noodles and a delicious sauce and I haven't stopped craving it since I first ate it. The coffee was also excellent and the service was SO FRIENDLY! HELLO! Beautiful high ceilings and a lovely design, too. I'll be back, Kara! Though I'd still prefer it if you changed your name.

Their food is excellent and the coffee good (if a little bitter - depends on your tastes). The cafe itself is long and narrow, disguising the amount of seating available from the street, so it is worth wandering in even if they 'look full'. It's probably worth noting that the cafe can be a bit noisy at kitchen end (out the back) and the tables are fairly small, so you won't have a lot of room for gadgets and your lunch :)
