Black Panookie

I have never tried better desserts than at this place. My favourite dessert is black panookie which was absolutely amazing both outside and inside. Banoffee was very good as well. I have discovered Honey Badger three days before leaving Hobart and visited it every day before leaving the town. Can't recommend it enough!

I don't do sweet stuffs, but I do do tea. We headed here for an after dinner treat for my sweet toothed company. I liked the layout of the place, although for that time of night (and how much wine I'd had at dinner) it was a little bright for my liking. Lots of lights, ample space, wooden tables and almost kitsch decorations. They got stuck into bread and butter pudding while I enjoyed a pretty gorgeous floral tea. Now, while I didn't eat the pudding, it looked damn impressive. Layers upon layers covered with ice cream with an extra pot of some kind of vanilla looking sauce. Let me tell you, I was going to get on the sweet course train, that'd be the clincher.

HB. DESSERT. GOOD TIMES. I'm talking in all caps because that's what you have to do in Honey Badger to hold a conversation, judging by the volume level in there. Thankfully I haven't had to hold a conversation because I take myself on dates to HB and spend a good hour or so indulging and writing in my notebook and bemoaning the volume level. If HB made sure there was a menu on every table at all times, no links would be missed, but as is they try to keep tabs on numbers and run menus out as you arrive... which is then a little misleading because you order and pay at the counter. Sit down, read your menu, make your decisions and then jump up and order. I recommend the soda refreshments on the drinks page as a sweet accompaniment, these are gonna be a go-to for me in summer. But what you really want here is desserts. Why even offer a couple of savoury dishes? Get rid of them. All dessert all the time is what I'm talking about. I won't rest until I've tried everything on the menu. Decent servings and interesting treats! Excellent opening hours! Don't be put off by the huge volume as you enter, there's still probably space for you.

Dessert and coffee here was excellent. A little crowded but may worth the wait. Plating of dessert was very attractive. Taste of dessert was sweet and chocolate not too sweet which is good.

Located in Salamanca Square, you will find something for everyone at this tasty dessert cafe. From breakkie to after dinner delights, Honey Badger has an extensive menu of sweets for all ages! We sat inside and enjoyed a hot matcha latte and a white chocolate panookie (cookie in a pipping hot skillet) all topped with ice cream and berries. For the size of the dessert, the price is on the steeper side however you will leave with a satisfied sweet tooth.

Excellent place for dessert! I ordered the brownie and it was great--comes with vanilla ice cream on top and melted chocolate and nuts in the bottom. The ambiance/decoration/aesthetic of the place was also very enjoyable and staff was friendly. Slightly overpriced, payed $10.50 for a brownie.

Only have been there once by accident, apparently this is one of the most popular spots for local sweet lovers. Nice staff with welcoming service, the desserts we ordered were just amazing! The presentation, the taste was everything!

Got a black pannokie without almonds. Overall it was really good. The marshmallow was delicious. The cookie was not a good texture. Very crumbly and dry and grainy. The brownie in a friends dish was delicious. I would say the best possible combo here would be a brownie with marshmallow and hot fudge and vanilla ice cream.

This patisserie was right across our hotel so we were easily tempted. Alas, the confections looked…read morebetter than they tasted and we were a bit disappointed.

We came here for a late breakfast/early lunch. It is somewhat more of a refined cake and dessert…read moretype bakery, and the dessert items did look fabulous in the case. For breakfast however, it wasn't very good for me as there were very limited lower carb/higher protein items. We ordered an almond croissant and a sausage and shiraz roll along with a flat white coffee. We sat outside as they didn't have the AC running and it was really way too warm inside. They have table service inside and servers that run out the food you had ordered at the counter. They were all super friendly and even asked if everything was satisfactory as they cleared our table. Unfortunately, neither of the baked goods were great. The almond croissant had a nicely laminated dough although it needed a tad of salt. The dough was buttery however lacking flavor most likely due to a lack of salt in the butter they used in the dough. The filling was almost like really dense cake batter with basically no almond flavor - the texture seemed almost right, maybe they forgot the almond paste or almond extract. We are used to a much, much stronger flavored almond croissant with almond paste inside. There were nicely toasted almond slices on the top. The sausage roll was a real disappointment. Although it looked really nice it was very heavy, seemed greasy and had two fundamental flaws. The dough was too thick around the sausage so when they wrapped it and baked it there was way too much dough and it was actually nearly raw all along the bottom edges. The sausage was not crumbled or taken out of the casing so when you bit through the roll (or even cut it as we did) the entire sausage slipped right out of the dough and left a big empty hole! It did have nice caramelized onions and some herbs or spinach (didn't eat enough to know exactly!) between the dough and sausage - they might have contributed to the wet/raw sogginess of the dough if they were not cooked enough and then released water into the dough. They were very gracious when I asked if I could get a refund for the sausage roll as I could not find anything else I wanted to get as a replacement. Our server could not have been any more professional and nice about it. He got approval from his manager and gave us the refund. The flat white was very good. If I needed to eat some lovely desserts I'd give them another try given their professional staff and good service.
