Small-fry, I've tried with you, but I have to call it. The space is small and beautiful but you didn't establish it. I went in with two friends today and despite a corner being vacated, your staff tried to place the three of us in a row, instead of in the corner. Have you ever dined with more than two people seated side by side? Conversation is impossible. We managed to negotiate our way into the corner despite your staffer's grave resistance to it (the hesitation being that us sitting in the corner would leave a single seat either side of us and heaven forbid solo diners from existing... we promised to move if the situation arose, and funnily enough, it didn't). Your menu (no longer presented on a wooden cube) is so expensive. The four cheese toastie was beautiful, but $18? And forgive me, but does anyone actually pay $20 for that porridge? And is a half hour wait for food really that great when you've got your prep piled on counters and only half a dozen seated customers? The coffee is still good. read more

Small-fry will make you feel like home. Not too many on the menu but what's on it is nice. Also you could find donuts and other sweet treats off the menu. The chef would cook just in front of you which is like in your own private dining room. Love the atmosphere here! Really Small but so sweet. read more

We were excited when we stepped into this cafe. The menu is good for people that are over the same old same old for breakfast. It has options ranging from sliders to mussels to fancy grilled cheese sandwiches to baked beans to sous vide chicken. You get the point. It is a small space which didn't seem to meet their demand. There was people coming in, milling around - which made it hard to relax and hold a conversation. The food has an element of theatre with patrons sitting around the cook. The toasted cheese and baked beans were good. The sliders were average, not enough filling or flavour. The coffee was fantastic the best I've tasted in Tasmania so far. Overall it was a bit hit and miss but would definitely return for a coffee. read more

A small, cosy, creative cafe that does what they do very well. Not a particularly huge menu, but everything on there is delicious and consistent. Great coffee. Friendly staff. Cool space. Simply amazing! The place was casual and small and you sat on a bar area where you could see the chef cooking up the meals! Exposed brick on the walls. Food was served with fresh ingredients and sooo tasty! Definitely recommend for parties of one or two since the place is small. I ordered the pepper and manchego omelette and it was delicious! Took a chocolate salted caramel donut to go and it was the best donut I've ever had!! My friend ordered the goat cheese, mushroom tartine and it was also delicious! I cannot recommend this place enough. Warm friendly atmosphere, great coffee, great food. Chef welcomes you like an old friend. Chefs passion for his craft shows in the concentration on his face. Stopped by for a coffee while i was in town, as i wanted to try some Ritual espresso. Double espresso was well extracted and had notes of caramel, chocolate and sweet finish. The menu looks really interesting and I would really like to return for a glass of wine and dinner sometime. Overall a really tidy little business. Will definitely be back! read more

Small as in hole in the wall but BIG on everything else. A well crafted small menu but all with great flavours. Attentive service coupled with the ability to sit and watch the chef Rhys work his craft so well. He's happy to chat as all of the staff are, and with a great wine list and assorted beers etc, we will be back. We had a nice bottle of Milton Riesling coupled with 2 sliders that we shared. We aren't big eaters and at 2pm'ish this was an ideal way to hit the hunger spot. We shared the pulled brisket and Pork belly sliders and they were fantastic. Well cooked and well flavoured and seasoned we devoured them quickly. Specials available too. They do great coffee apparently and also amazing donuts that sell out as soon as they are made.
