Visited on a Monday night around 6:45 and was sat right away. The chips and guac was 5/5, the Paloma was a 2/5, carne asada taco was 4/5 and the Korean taco was 6/5!! This is a more modern Mexican restaurant that's fun for a girls night or a date night. I was highly disappointed in the pricing though. The guac was very pricey and the tacos were so expensive. The drink was actually a fair price.
We stopped at Honcho on a whim, and we're super glad we did! We sat outside on their patio, which had a great view of the Main Street. The food was delicious and surprisingly affordable for being in the nice part of Clarkston. I had the chicken tamale pie, which was both tasty and hearty. We'll have to come back next time we're nearby!
Go literally anywhere else. To make a long story short, everything went wrong from the very beginning. The hostess underestimated our wait time over the phone, we unfortunately sent back our drinks, waited 2 hours for 4 tacos and even ended up requesting them to go because we had 2 kids started to get stir crazy. Nothing else to say besides this place is overhyped and the kitchen is far too small for the size of the restaurant.
Full disclosure - I went two days in a row and I'm not ashamed to admit it. First day, I decided to go with the Carne Asada tacos which were pretty good. Big chunks of steak with a very tasty verde sauce. My only complaint, and this is just me being nit picky, is that they didn't have a house hot sauce/salsa. I know that's a dumb thing to whine about - I acknowledge that. During my second visit (today), I went with the rice bowl and loved that way more than the tacos - tons of flavors. The portion size was good but I could have found a way to get a second one down. No shame. Service behind the bar is great, Sonya, if I remember correctly is awesome; she's a keeper. Wish I lived closer to make this a regular spot.
This place has it all. The ambiance is on point, you can choose indoor or outdoor seating. The service is very friendly and quick to get you seated (there are many seats in 3 different sections). Finally, the food is always on point. They have a good mixture of food blending Mexican and Korean in many of their entrees. Love this place very easy to come back to!
Overall 4 of us in my family who went said experience 5 star but food was just okay overall (3 star) so giving it 4 stars. We had reservations for an outdoor igloo. Only requirement was minimum 4 people. Easy could have seated 10. No food minimum. Our server was super friendly and she was working hard going inside and outside of all the igloos. Our drinks were delicious. My daughter got the bad ombre and it was amazing. I wish i had ordered that instead of the Paloma. We shared chips and salsa app with side of guac. And also the queso dip. All great. 2 of us ordered ala carte tacos. One the rice bowl with seared ahi added and a kids meal. Dessert was yummy. A chai muffin and delicious chocolate chip cookie with a cappuccino. Igloo was so warm and cozy despite cold night. A fire pit outside.
One of my new favorite places. The atmosphere/setting is fun, casual, and lively. The dining area moves fast paced, yet you can have great memories and conversations with your friends/family that you are with. The #1 tip: order the house made donuts. They are arguably the top 5 desserts I have ever eaten. They are so fresh, crispy, airy, and delicious. The caramel and chocolate dipping sauces are perfect condiments for them. I got the rice bowl which is a more of a Latin/Asian fusion, and I loved it. I am definitely coming back and ordering this again. Staff was engaging and entertaining. Made us feel welcomed, and want to stay for more food and drinks. Attentive as well.
This is a combo business that has a full service bar, sit down restaurant and a coffee shop which is the only aspect of this business that I am rating. For my first drink here I ended up getting a Cafe Latte that was very well made and definately to my liking. I ended up drinking the coffee in their lounge area that is shared between the bar and coffee shop where the area is a is a bit rustic, in a nice way, and is a great spot to sit down for some quiet time or for a chat with friends and enjoy your drink. Aside from Lattes this business also makes a full assortment of coffee drinks and has some pastries for sale as well. Additionally it would appear they roast their own beans as well and sell the beans by the bags. Nice! Definately a place to check out especially if you are into good coffee as I am!
The tacos I got weren't all that, but it would be worth trying again and getting something else. Was not a humming fan of peas in the guacamole. The location is super super cute and a fun vibe. My latte was delicious though and would definitely go back for round 2 of that! Service was great & they were super nice & welcoming.
Love the vibe here! Great outdoor patio with open air seating inside too. A fire pit and even chalk for the kids to play with while we ate. Cool ambience while you're sipping on a delicious marg. Have eaten here multiple times and always like our food. This time tried the rice bowl with the pork. The flavors were good but not sure how I felt about the kimchi. Maybe a little too much going on but still tasty. The chips and dip trio is always a win and everyone else loved their burritos and tacos that were ordered. Some of the stand out tacos are the hot or not chicken, the Korean pork, and the taco night. Always a great place for a night out or relaxed lunch.
Have sat on the bar/lounge side and also the restaurant side. Both are super fun. Parking is on the streets. You can easily find this spot on Main Street. It's on a corner and is well signed. There is a large patio too. The restaurant is on the backside and does have a separate entrance if you want to use it (or go through the bar). Hostess stand in front. I had made reservations for the latest work lunch. The interior design and vibe is cool. Love the eclectic meets industrial spin. They are known for their margaritas, so I ordered the watermelon one. Was fine, but not amazing. They have a nice menu with a few veg friendly options. Omnivores will be happy here. I like the atmosphere and design of the place. Good service is always a plus. I'll be back to support this establishment.
We happened to be in the area and Honcho looked awesome! They say they're " Latin food that speaks with an Asian accent." I don't know what an Asian accent is (lol!) but I get the gist that it's all about It's a cool vibe though - super unique and if I HAD to describe it, it's like: Vinsetta Garage in Berkley it's a converted auto shop but it's fun like the inside of Isalita in Ann Arbor but with a banging outdoor space like Donkey Taqueria in GR! Payton, our server, was great! She was attentive and had great pacing. She also gave me a great rec! We ended up getting: *SWEET PEA GUACAMOLE (GF) | 10.95 (avocado, English peas, scallions & cilantro topped with spiced pepitas, corn chips on the side) - i've never had anything like this! The peas added great texture as they were kept whole -- with the scallions it was like a really chunky and tasty guac! *FUEGO SALSA FLIGHT (GF) | 9.50 (avocado -- tomatillo, avocado, lime Chili Morita -- tomato, smoked jalapeno, garlic Arbol -- tomatillo, garlic, Mexican arbol chilies corn chips on the side) - Fuego salsa for real! All very tasty though and actually had some heat! *HONCHO HOT [OR NOT] CHICKEN | 5.50 (fried and tossed in nashville sauce, topped with a soy fish sauce glaze, mayo, pickles, scallions & cilantro) - PICKLES ON A TACO? hecc yeah! It was a pretty small piece of chicken but very good - I could inhale so many of these! *Roasted Mushroom Taco | 5.25 (Two griddled corn tortillas stuffed with a roasted mushroom blend, chimichurri, marinated onions & peppers, & toasted pepitas) - love me a good hongos taco and this one was super flavorful!
I had no idea this place even existed until recently. I don't know how I discovered it, but I made sure to come up and have lunch here with my friend today since I'm always looking for new spots to try. Pulling in, the place is super cool and well decorated. There's a coffee shop AND a restaurant together. I was here early so I grabbed a coffee and hung out for a few minutes before my friend got here. (Parking can be tough in this part of town and main street's busy.) After my friend arrived, we got seated inside since neither one of us wanted to get sweaty in the sun. They do have outside patio dining along with being super dog friendly. So, if you don't like dogs, steer clear. Fortunately, I have to pet all the dogs and love them dearly, so I was in heaven when I figured this out. The menu here's pretty simple in the fact that they don't have 10 million things going on. Some people dig that, but honestly, as of late, sometimes stick to what you know, okay? And they do tacos very good here! I went with the Standard Tacos since I wasn't feeling to adventurous, and they were very very good considering they were probably the most boring thing on the menu. I wanted to get their Burrito, but passed since I wasn't starving. Portions were good and I was full after two tacos. I can't remember what my friend got, but she got the mac and cheese side dish and I tasted it since she couldn't finish it all. Fantastic for sure. Everything's ala carte here, so no combos. Normally that bothers me, but since I love this place and vibe here so much, it's all good. I didn't get a chance to try the rice or refried beans, because as stated earlier, I wasn't starving and didn't want to gorge myself and have tons of leftovers. Prices are decent considering how fun the vibe is and you could probably hang out here all day if you wanted to. Speaking of hanging out all day, oddly enough they have signs on the tables saying a 90 minute limit on sitting inside. I don't know that I've seen that in a long time, but was it a problem before? Why? There's plenty of seating, so I don't get it. I mean, I wasn't looking to spend 3 days here, just lunch. Weird. Anyway, I digress. Our server was cool and overall I can't rave about this place enough. Fun enough that you can really hang out and chill most of the day and rotate between the coffee part of the restaurant, bar area and the dining room. I love the décor as it's very inviting and well done. I will be back, I just loved eating here and hanging out so much.
This was pretty tasty. I had been hearing good things about Honcho but I'm rarely in the Clarkston area, unless I'm seeing a concert at Pine Knob, as I was last night, so a friend and I stopped by here after scoping out the menu first - she eats gluten-free and is also vegetarian, but they had a lot of GF items on the menu. We both got margaritas - she had a watermelon one and I had a frozen passionfruit one, which tasted more like mango, and we both agreed that mine was better, haha. For our entrees, she got the nachos and added beans to it, and I got three different tacos: the Korean BBQ one (with pulled pork from Woodshop next door), Bulgogi, and fried pickle. They were all pretty good, Bulgogi was probably my favorite but the fried pickle was super interesting and a bit spicy. The carne asada taco also sounded good and the birria, but the birria comes in a pack of three and you can't mix and match (i.e. you can't only do one or two birria tacos). Waitservice was fast and friendly too. Originally they seated us in a tiny 2-person booth-type thing in the interior part of the restaurant (there are basically two rooms, connected) but it was a bit small and we didn't like it, so they let us relocate to a high-top near the bar area. If you're looking for COVID-friendly dining, they have a nice outdoor seating area, and the room with the bar was completely open-air, as well. My only suggestion to them is to have a larger bathroom, there was constantly a line of ladies since there were only two stalls. We went the other night and it was a literal party. I actually thought I walked into a private event but it turned out there were a couple weddings and all of the guests were getting an in between drink before the receptions but it only added to the Saturday night charm. But it does get very crowded here, so come well before you want to actually eat since there could be an hour or two wait. We went to the bar and I had the peach habanero marg, so good, slight spice and very tasty. Then I tried their Honcho Shandy and it was hands down the best shandy I've had, and I've had them in many different parts of the world. This was THE best! We also tried their taro bubble tea with strawberry popping pearls. It was very good and very refreshing, just as good as the bubble tea shops. I tried the birria taquitos, they were delicious, and easily my second favorite outside the ones I had in Florida. I always need to get their Honcho chicken taco with the pickles, easily the best unique taco out there, you always need to get it with the double tortillas and the cheese. Their homemade poptarts are unbeatable. We got the s'more one this time, so good. I have never tried the ones at Disney, but I image they are similar. We also cannot leave without having a coffee. We got the mocha and it was hot and chocolatey and strong, a coffee redemption from the ones we got a week or so ago at another local coffee shop. I cannot come here without ordering tons and as always walk out with leftovers for later. Love, love, love this place! It's a must go for delicious unique food with great service and decent prices! We went on a Friday night and were able to get right in. The place was busy, but not overwhelming. They had the garage doors open, it was beautiful. I love the unique layout and eclectic decors and furniture. The front looks like a diner and the back acts as a bar/ coffee shop. Every time I come here I have my go-to orders but always seem to amass more new favorites. Their tacos are delish, my standby fav is the chicken with pickles. Their chop salad is fresh and yummy, I recommend the half order, perfect as a side! The Mac and cheese is a classic. The rice and beans are better than most Mexican restaurants in the area. We tried the coffee chicken quesadilla and it was an absolute winner. The drinks are amazing, we had the Honcho mango and Son of a Baptist coffee stout, wow...yum! The watermelon infused margarita was refreshing and perfect. Coffee is a must here, we had a mocha and honey latte with a sea salt jumbo chocolate chip cookie. This is the place I come to on a Sunday when I'm fed up with life and need a mimosa and a break! I suggest having a drink relaxing on their comfy couch near the coffee shop. You can even have a full meal there. You won't regret it. read more

This is a bold statement... but honcho makes my favorite tacos of all time. First, you have a couple of options with the shell, I can't remember the names but basically you can choose a regular soft shell corn tortilla (comes w 2 so it is a little more sturdy), 2 soft corn shells with cheese in the middle or a soft shell with a hard shell behind it with cheese in the middle (called Durado I think). It's a small up charge to order the shells with cheese between them but totally worth it. I am especially impressed with the sweet potato taco- it has so much flavor (without being spicy). I always get the hot or not chicken too and love that you're able to choose the level of spice you want. It is served with pickles and a tangy aioli. My friends and I get the margarita tower when we're feeling saucy and it definitely makes financial sense if you're going to drink more than 1 marg (4+ people). The guacamole and salsa are good but not much different than any other Mexican restaurant. The server was very sweet and gave us great recommendations. The restaurant is decorated very chic and there are little domes outside that you can reserve as well. I will caution that it can get very busy so wait times can be long during hot times. read more
I tried Honcho's for the first time a while back and I'm finally able to post! I'm glad there is something local to me that is a fun spot with a chill vibe. The decor was eclectic and relaxed. The service was good, our server was friendly and helpful with the menu. The service was a little slow but understandable as it was really busy that day. The food was pretty good as well. The guac was unique with different than expected flavors. The margaritas were solid, I wish they were a tad stronger, but it'll do! I'll definitely visit again to try other dishes. read more

Went here before our DMB show at Pine Knob and was so amazing. Not only were our food and drinks great but our server Julia was great. Such friendly service and very attentive. The patio was very nice, it was a hot day and we did not go thirsty! If you're in town this is a must stop. They have very large seated areas for larger groups and well so any occasion head there. Bonus points I left my scarf and she kindly mailed it too me so quickly. You literally could not ask for a better experience you be well taken care of. Next time we are in town we will be back for sure. read more

10 minute wait inside. There is a lot of outside seating and they have extended patio out on the street by their food truck. We were seated at our splintered plywood piece high top in the backroom that snagged my new NM knitted sweater on my right sleeve, fantastic. Who was the brainiac that thought that was a good idea? Our waiter, Raul seems nice and on top of things. We stared off with the chips and salsa with guacamole and the queso dip. The queso takes 8 minutes to cook. The chips, salsa and guacamole were out a shortly bit later. The salsa verde is beyond salty and there's no salt on the chips. The Peruvian salsa is also rather salty. The sweet pea guacamole is the only decent thing on the app tray and isn't over salty, like the salsas are here. I wouldn't get the salsa and chips app again, only the queso dip. The queso is scalding hot but quite flavorful and yummy. That is a worthy app and calories for a starter. We also ordered 2 Honcho hot chicken champ tacos, 2 pollo asado house style and 1 pollo asado champ style. The food comes out as it's completed. Different runners brought most of our items. Everything was timely, the queso takes the longest to bake and make. The pollo asado champ style was my favorite and the pollo asado house and the pollo asado champ style were both my husband's favorite. The Honcho hot is like a Nashville hot chicken with a Latin flare and on corn tortillas, of course. The dices pickles at the bottom of the honcho hot is an interesting blend of tastes with the spicy hot fried chicken. It's nice and crispy, the chicken that is. read more

I'm a big fan of all Union joints, but Honcho is definitely one of my favorites! I think about their korean pork tacos OFTEN and have gotten them to-go multiple times during this pandemic. This weekend I dined inside Honcho for the very first time in all the years I've been coming here I realized! I have always either gotten food to-go or dined on their wonderful, dog-friendly patios throughout all the seasons. The interior decor is similar to Gran Castor, which I absolutely love! The food is, like always, delicious! I highly recommend the sweet pea guacamole, queso dip (it's so goshdarn DELICIOUS), the house salsas (the peruvian green chili salsa in particular!), and basically all their tacos (my favorites being the korean pork, honcho hot chicken, and a fish one that is not currently on their limited pandemic menu). I keep meaning to try the burritos or rice bowls or other items on their menu, but every time I come to Honcho, I just crave the tacos so much, so I end up getting those again. I highly recommend getting all the tacos you order in "the champ" style -- you can thank me later for that! read more

This place was busy for lunch when we were there. Our server was really hustling, which meant that she never actually checked back with us after delivering our food. It was ok though - it was delicious! In the warmer months, patio seating is available. We sat on the coffee shop side of the restaurant which gave us a view of the patio and street in downtown Clarkston - a great place to hang out. read more

This was a another good restaurant in downtown Clarkston. I have heard only good things about Honcho and I have to agree. Had the Hot Chicken Burrito and it did not disappoint in both heat and flavor. This burrito was stuffed full of chicken, beans, and cheese. This along with a good classic margarita made for great meal after a round of golf with the guys. Great place to enjoy the food and drinks. read more
I wanted to love it. I really did. It is cool inside and props to whomever did the interior, cool. The servers are muy boho-chic. The food ...no chips...long wait...had high hopes for the Baja taco, but when I was charged an extra $2 for "dorado style" (cheese between the two tortillas), I was like.....um....really? I can get 2 amazing fish tacos at Lucky's for $7. It was worth a try, but don't know if I need to go back. Also took home a side of Mac & cheese, which is amazing, but quite a small serving. read more
I moved to the area in 2016 and I've been going to Honcho since then for a reason. The food is fresh and inspired, as is their drink menu. The interior has a really fun and modern vibe. Some things like their cocktails are relatively pricy (although the drinks are good enough that it never stops me from having at least one) but there are options at all different price points. Staff is always friendly and attentive. In my opinion, Honcho really brings something special to the table. I highly recommend checking it out if you've never been. read more

This restaurant reminds me very much of Grand Castor, a sister restaurant of Honcho. It's got the same vibe and very similar type of menu. We started with the sweet pea guacamole-which we all enjoyed. The chips that come with it are similar to corn chips with a spice and are a welcome surprise. We ordered the chopped salad with cod, the spicy chicken burrito, the spicy chicken taco and the shaved burrito taco. Everyone thought their food was a bit dry (which I've read in other reviews). We would have requested more sauce for all our meals, including the salad, but when our server came back around, it was often too late. We ordered the kids nachos and cheese which is a TERRIBLE version of nachos and cheese and should be removed from the menu. Our little one LOVES nachos and cheese, but here they place nachos on a plate-spread what looks like shredded mozzarella cheese on top, melt it 3/4 of the way and serve it. HORRIBLE! She couldn't even eat it. We ended up getting the Mac and cheese which has a crunchy breaded/cheesy topping served on top of penne pasta. Definitely much better. I'd come back here if I was in the area....and order extra sauce. read more
The food and drinks were phenomenal. The hostess and manager make things way too confusing for absolutely no reason. You walk in seeing empty seating outside and inside, they tell you it's over an hour wait. You try to go to the bar that is COMPLETELY empty and they tell you it's an hour wait. If you try to go to the bar without being seated at the bar then the bartender has to go and get approval for you to get seated there because there's apparently a HUGE wait for a completely empty room. Then when you get your drink at the bar they decide there's no longer a wait at all and they can now seat you where ever you want within five minutes of getting there. I suggest getting carry out and just completely skipping that whole fiasco. It was beyond agitating and put an extremely sour taste in my mouth from that service. Ooh and the manager was pretty picky about who could wear a mask and who didn't have to... We weren't the only ones they did this to and it wasn't their first time doing this to us. Quite a few people who were seated said they all just went through the same thing and were highly annoyed. Extremely poor service skills. The waitress was nice tho. read more

We stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night before a concert at DTE. Our reservation was made for 5:15, but accidentally made for the wrong date. There was a considerable wait time (which is understandable on a concert day), we found a spot at the bar to get a cocktail and hoped they could get us a table in time to make the concert. The hostess came to us to tell us they had a table for us, just a few minutes later. We appreciated that they got us in, since we made the reservation mistake.. We were given a small high top table (4 people eating, it was kind of cramped, but we were still grateful that they squeezed us in) in the back between the bar and coffee bar. I love the decor of the whole place, very fun and eclectic. Our server was Owen, he was sweet, but a bit forgetful, I feel that he was maybe new there. We ordered honcho nachos with pollo asada (grilled chicken) to start, plus the salsa trio and some sweet pea guacamole. The nachos were great, the salsas and guacamole were all good, too. We also had some margaritas, the house and pineapple habenero (it could have used more pineapple flavor, there was definitely heat and I love the spices rim) the house margarita was good, nothing special (it wasn't too sweet, which is a good thing). We asked for water, but our server never brought them. For our mains, we ordered the enchiladas suizas (the enchiladas were delicious, I felt the jasmine rice and black beans were a bit bland though), the tamale pie (which takes 25min to bake) came in a cast iron pan and was plentiful and tasty, the birria tacos with the accompanying consumé were pretty good, I expected something better. My friend got 3 tacos: carne asada, fish taco and bulgogi taco (I tasted the beef and it was great). We ended our meal with the fresh donuts and dipping sauces (salted caramel and cinnamon chocolate). Omg, these are amazing!! I see why we saw so many passing by going to other tables. They are tiny freshly fried (greasy in the best way) donuts. I would definitely get those again! We ordered espressos, which we figured were setting at the coffee bar for our server to pick up and bring to us. We asked him and he said that they would make it. I actually walked over to the coffee bar to ask and the girls were sweet and said those were ours and they were "dead" and were making fresh ones as they spoke. The espresso was not very good to be honest, my boyfriend said it was probably the worst he's ever had. It was drinkable and I needed a pick me up. All in all, I would go there again (make sure that our reservation time is correct Lol) I know what I like and what I wouldn't order again.
