I rated this 5 stars not because it is perfect (the décor was dated and the toilets and showers were small) but because it fully met my expectations given the price (only $130/night for the large Captain's room and high-quality breakfast for 2) and the age of the building (the house is over 100 years-old). Breakfast was a wonderful treat thanks to Sue's culinary skills. Our only complaint was the bed in our room (the Quilt Room) was very worn out. We were told it was about to be replaced--definitely needed! It sound like other rooms were more updated on beds. We loved the house and owners and would love to return.

You could tell that they value their customers and they care about quality. Breakfast was really good with waffles, eggs, sausage, cereal and lots more. This place is the gold standard for a lodge, a place to stay…read more Think of this as a small town motel. If you like the charm and the laid back social vibe that's needed to "Hideaway" then this is what you're looking for. The noise or the weird noisy nonsense that's a part of a larger motel, that's not a thing here. There are social spaces and larger rooms on the opposite side of the rentals that are there if you need to have it, but they're largely quiet and they're perfect if you're in the area to visit your family here or bring a small group to have the extra room to talk about things. As for the rooms, they're practically spotless. They are also large and very clean, because the owner makes it a point for them to be that way. And honestly, from my own travel experiences you'd probably be paying more for that than you would elsewhere - they'd charge a premium for these, but the prices here are lower than what you'd get for the same thing elsewhere. The rooms include a refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, and a good WiFi connection. There is no extra cost for those, and they're the type of things I worry about when I feel like I'm away from home. Besides that, there's a bar here with a friendly atmosphere. You'll see a mix of both guests that stop by to rent rooms, and locals that come in to relax after a long day's worth of work.

This lodging facility appears to have been a military style or medical style housing facility. They did a great job converting to a single or double occupancy facility. The room was very large and spacious. Present in our room was what appeared to be a California King size bed. The mattress was a little more firm then we were used to but not uncomfortable and slept well. The room was broken up with the shower on one side and the lavatory on the other. Amenities were simple and personable. The bar on site is fully stocked to your pleasure. Food wise your choices are limited in the hotel but the restaurant across the street can fill the void. I appreciate the the friendly conversation and accommodations provided. It will certainly warrant a return visit if and when we are in the area again.

No notification. After forcing the Inn's hand they changed the accomodations closer to what they originally had been. The room we stayed in was dirty and lacking in amenities such as towels and soap. They are extremely behind on offering items such as non-allergen soaps. There were dead bugs all over the floor. The crank on the window was broken off. We received a lot of "I don't knows" from the staff. When I arrived home, I did check my credit card activity. At that point after asking them on the first night and on the last day, if any money was owed and told repeatedly that it was not, since they had made the mistake, I found they had charged us more - even though it was unauthorized. I called and have been told the last charge would be reversed. But we will see what happens. This is not a trust worthy or reliable place to visit. Watch out.

However, our stay here was so amazing that it hasn't left our minds. So, the "bed" part of bed and breakfast? So comfortable! The rooms were amazing and had such a sense of history. The rooms were very spacious and beautifully decorated. Vintage wallpaper and bed dressings give you the full effect of traveling in time to a bygone era. The showers and bathtubs were great. The tubs were the claw foot standalone type tubs and not the typical Home Depo special you get in motels and hotels. There's just something about showering in one of those tubs that takes you back. However if you want to use them, there are indeed wonderful modern jacuzzis available in the rooms as well which are super relaxing after a day of walking around and sightseeing and shopping. Things were very comfortable inside despite it being very hot and so humid outside. And there were extra fans if you needed them and you wanted to stay cooler too. The furniture is actual wood and not the cheap particle board stuff used with in so many places today. The wood just feels "rich and elegant." From the outside, you get such a sense of history. The place is absolutely beautiful. Now... the "breakfast" part of bed and breakfast was so filling. You will eat like you've never eaten before and will want more but won't have the space to put it. I wish we could have stayed an extra day even just for the food. The owner asks about your preferences and needs and does such a great job with the food. She makes a killer sweet tea as well! The place was remarkably maintained and the owner was so welcoming. She felt like a family member we haven't seen in so long, like a grandmother to us and our kids. She was super flexible about the check in and check out times as well, enabling us to get a quick shower in before leaving so that after sight seeing we didn't need to sit in our sweaty clothes for the next leg of the trip. We so much wanted to stay longer! It was such a great experience there is no doubt that we will stay here every time we come to Metropolis. Oh and I should mention that when you stay here, you do get admission to the Superman museum included in the cost which is just icing on the cake. So really, why are you still reading? Book a stay. Bed was comfortable. A/C kept up. There was some obvious wear and tear in certain spots in our room. One being that a wall plate was completely missing from the outlet under our desk. I noticed this because I went to use the outlet. Would be a safety issue if curious little kids found it. The hotel looked to be sold-out the second night of our visit, but we didn't hear anything from our neighbors. Our room was very quiet. We could see the airport from our window.
