I have been a member since August of 2015 based on my daughter's recommendation. I must say that I am very pleased with the facility and the personnel that I have come in contact with. They offer a clean facility great workout options a healthy smoothie bar relaxed atmosphere and helpful employees. What more could one ask for in a fitness club . PLUS all of this and more at an affordable price......They are now into an expansion into the adjacent vacant storefront that will be designated for classes and private training I believe. Probably the main floor will remain status quo. I would only wish that they do not introduce any more fitness machines on that main floor because it is at the limit now with the machines they have in place as is. In my opinion it all depends on your standards and what you're willing tollerate. I feel there are several superior options within a few minutes of this hole. My experince has been nothing but mediocre equipment, automized text messages ar 5 am and overall miserable management. When I called in June to cancel the person spoke to said my membership was cancelled. That I wouldnt be charged any further. Noone said anything about signing a form. I asked a friend to pay off my balance for me because its a half hour drive from my house. I thought I was done with this horrible business. Then I got an text message 2 months later threatening to send me to collections. I dont feel this place cares at all about their customer's experice. They just want to squeeze as many payments out of you as they can. Well i paid the last 2 months i had canceled because Vic was threatening me to send me to collections for $50! When I wrote my original review Vic the owner then sent me threatening emails that they would sue me for defamnation and only chose to reply to this review after I edited out the details. Well, i dont like bullys. Heres some hot fire of truth, when i called i was told my account was cancelled, noone told me there was a form, I recived no phone calls letting me know my account was not cancelled and there was a balance, they had the WRONG email on file so i never recieved any correspndence besides the collections text message, attached. It was not an old email, they just typed it in wrong.Heres an idea, maybe automating your business isnt fail safe for customer service. And maybe taking some responsibility and just saying "oops, we messed up, how can we make it right" rather than blaming the customer for not knowing the ins and outs of your "process" would go a long way in satisfying unhappy customers. I signed up last year after driving by and thinking it was a good idea. Right about the time I started graduate school and commuting to the city for work. I had my account on automatic payment to my credit card. Well, I lost my card and ordered a new one. I had never actually went to the gym after signing up. I was working out elsewhere that was more convenient to my schedule and didn't think to cancel my membership. Fast forward to today and I received a call from a collections agency. That was the first contact I received concerning a past due balance from this place. When I called and talked to part of the management, Greg, he kept on telling me I was being rude for being upset that I had not received contact from them before being sent to collections. He claimed they had called my but I never received a missed call or voicemail. He then stated they emailed me. Apparently they don't realize how spam filters work and think that is an extremely unreliable way of establishing contact with customers. He scoffed as me when I asked why they didn't send a letter. Simply stating, "We don't do that". I pay my bills. I have always done so. This is my first time ever being put in for collections. I have worked in the fitness industry before and never worked at a place with such low-class business tactics. I know how places like this work. They offer you a $10 month to month commitment because they want you to forget and automatic payment you until you realize, if you do, that you forgot about this pittance of a payment. They thrive off maintaining low square footage and pay for new equipment for their members off New Year's Resolutioners that forget they signed up and don't come in. I love this gym. It's user friendly to all, young, old, and in between. It's always clean and well maintained. There are classes with experienced trainers that always give instructions for beginners to more experienced. The staff is friendly and so helpful. I'm a senior and was a bit intimated by joining a gym, but Hometown Fitness is friendly and a fun place to work out. I'm a member for life! read more

Acceptable if you don't need much. A bit dark and dingy, even for a gym. There isn't much room for the equipment they have, and probably no room for expansion. The cardio equipment is not very good. But, what can I say? The price is right. read more

Been working out here for a few years. The group classes are excellent (my favorite is barre with Vicky. They also offer yoga, Pilates, Zumba, RIP, etc., along with personal training and small group classes). Has a community atmosphere that is uplifting, and offers very nice locker room accommodations (shower, toiletries). Through this gym I have built strength in my body and confidence in my ability to stay on routine and be the healthiest version of myself possible :) read more

My husband and I joined HTF about six months ago. We belonged to Cardinal and were looking for a gym that offered classes and some variety. We haven't regretted it. You get a free evaluation and personal training session with your no contract sign-up which is rad. The price is great and for not a whole lot more, you can join for unlimited classes. The classes are awesome and worth the sign-up alone. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The personal training is very reasonably priced too and we're happy with our experiences so far. Joined the gym few years back but new ownership doubled membership fees in two years without any improvement to the same old machines so Cancelled our membership after recent rate hikes and joined brand new Planet Fitness in Plainfield for only $10 a month and most importantly all brand new great machines in a beautiful facility and with way more amenities and all classes are free for members. read more

I was a member since 2012. Yes I was one of those that forgot about the monthly payments, turns out for years. I asked for a 1 year refund based on 3+ years of non use but I got the letter that says I am out of my contract now. Signed by no one. Very faceless for a local gym. There should some type of non use cut off on this auto billing. read more

I called the business two weeks ago and scheduled an appointment for my wife to get a sports massage on 2/13/17 at 9:45am. My wife showed up at her scheduled appointment and was directed to the massage room where got ready and waited. As she waited, a person came into the massage room and told her that she was not on the list of appointments and would have to reschedule. I called the business and left a message with an employee, asking the manager to return my call. No response. The following day, I called again, spoke with the business manager and explained the situation, letting him know I had scheduled the appointment two weeks prior. He was extremely rude, did not offer much to explain or remedy the situation, and questioned whether or not I was even telling the truth..... terrible customer service. In addition, the manager rudely told me he was not really "doing groupons anymore" and doesn't really do sports massages for non-members (of the fitness gym).... So why they heck is he advertising on Groupon, knowing that non-members will also be purchasing the deals?!?!?! Horrible experience with Hometown Fitness. read more

I joined about 2 years ago and love this gym! All of the personnel are friendly and helpful. The instructors are very good for a variety of classes which are free with membership. This place is fantastic. Fitness enthusiasts of ALL AGES use this Health Club and it has quite a diversified set-up with treadmills, weight machines, free weights, and several classes. I use it quite often and noticed that the classes that are held when I am there always seem to be full. There pricing and terms are the best that I have ever found. The Staff is friendly and sociable and you have the option of hiring a personal trainer if you wish, whom all seem to have the required experience and knowledge as trainers to make your training exceptional. This Place is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. I highly recommend anyone considering signing up for a new gym to go ANYWHERE else. It has been a headache from day 1. The management is rude and very unknowledgeable, even with their own business procedures. Their "improvements", were a few t.v.'s and about 14 different paint schemes. The cardio equipment is older then me and I served in Nam. There are so many other places in the area that are much better, friendlier, and not as careless with peoples personal information. read more

Greg apparently the new GM has the worst attitude especially for being any sore of manager. This man never says hi or greets people and on numerous occasions I've seen his completely disregard members while only worrying about his client at that particular moment. I've been a part of Hometown since day one that it opened up about 10 years ago and can honestly say Ryan M. and Charlie knew what members were looking for. The equipment and everything else for the most part is right for the money. Sanitation has gone out the door especially the bathrooms! Again the only reason I am a part of it is because the money is right and because it is convenient being that its right by my house. read more

I am a 79 year old senior citizen and thought the exercise would do me some good. I joined because it was a month to month membership and I would not be locked into a contract. I was told I could pay by the month when I came in. I asked what would happen if I did not come in when payment was due. I was told, just pay when you do come in. On 09/05/2014, I paid a $50.00 fee to join and $40.00 for the first two months. I went several times and found the facility somewhat dirty and dominated by jocks that dominate some of the machines. On 11/05/14, I came in and used the club and paid $40.00 for the next two months until 01/05/2015. I made a few more visits in November and early December and found people would take over a piece of equipment, do some reps and wait for a long time and do more reps but not allow me to use the equipment. I felt bullied. I did not ever go back after that. On 04/05/2015, I stopped by and left a check for $80.00 to pay up until 05/05/2015, thinking I may go back and try it again. After thinking it over, I decided it wasn't worth the aggravation, so I never returned. I paid a total of $210.00 for about 2.5 months of a very unpleasant experience in a club with a month to month membership. I chalked it up to a waste of money and a bad experience and forgot the whole matter. I never received a bill or had any experience or communications from or with Hometown fitness for thirteen months until I received a notice from a collection agency saying I owed them money. I checked my credit rating and found I took a big hit on my score that had been over 800 for many years. I never failed to pay any bill even paid late for the last 30 years, but these guys think I owe them something and without notice or communication turn me over for collection. BEWARE! They will hurt you without cause and without warning. read more
