My son needed a haircut earlier this week. I should probably mention that my son is 20 years old, so imagine me trying to get a 20 year old to do anything. Ok - so my dad decided he'd talk the kid into it while they were out doing guy stuff. The kid suggested one of the chain places he usually goes, but my dad, a barber shop aficionado, saw the Hometown Barber Shop while they were at lunch across the street and suggested they check it out. He came home with what is probably the best haircut he's had in a decade. Hands down. He'd never take the time to write a review, but said the guys were friendly, talkative, and can cut hair like nobody's business. They even managed to get him to look like a normal person AND deal with the wicked colic he has at the crown of his head so that the hair at the top of it doesn't stick straight up. I will NEVER go elsewhere. It's an experience. I tell people to go just for the banter. It's a guy's dream. If I could just watch the Godfather and smoke a cigar while I was there, then It would be as close to heavenly as possible. The guys there are friendly and hilarious. Obama and Pelosi take a beating on every visit. Which is fine by me. The wait time varies but it's never too long. And like I have said, the wait is worth the price of admission. My haircut's are always top notch. And as for prices they are comparable to any other Barber I have gone to. I love these guys and I love this place. read more

Good Barber Shop! Right in Barrington. I like it because you can go in there and have a good conversation with a bunch of old guys about how screwed up our government it. They cut it perfect, no frills, no BS. Its 16 bucks so for 20 your outta there. I took in a picture of how I wanted it, they cut my hair like the picture. No problem. read more

The haircuts here are as sharp as the political and sports commentary. Warren, Phil and Dennis are talented and efficient, knowing amost everyone who walks in the door. Customers will aways recognize at least one other customer, which is a great compliment to the quality of the cuts and the ambience of the atmosphere. Forget Sport Clips, City Cuts and the other chains. This is the place for a real haircut. read more

Every time I get a haircut in here it's an experience. The older people that come in here and talk about all sorts of stuff, from racing cars to the Cubs and even prostate medications makes it all worthwhile. I have loved this barbershop for SOOOO long I can't remember when I started using them. We moved our offices so it became tougher to just keep an eye in the window and wake Phil up for a cut or Warren. Today as I ate a couple delicious slices at one of Phil's favorite lunch spots, The Pizza Factory in Barrington, Nick, Jr and I were talking about the "gems of Barrington" (including of course, Pizza Factory) and Hometown Barber Shop came up. I started talking about how I miss going there (usually a wait-for a damn good reason, best cut and friendships around) and he told me the saddening news. Phil had passed. Phil was so much more than a barber. He was my counselor, friend, adviser, confidante and consummate jokester and prankster. My eyes swelled with tears. Phil, you're with E now, the Elvis fan is with E and looking down on us and blesses us with his memory. Stop in, see Warren for a great cut and bow your head to the legend's middle chair. My heart has a spot that Phil is a part of. He called me his son often. I've got the best Dad in the world but I think my Dad would've shared me with Phil. I love the haircut and service - and even though I vote Republican, I really don't appreciate the Fox News-style-blinder-wearing banter. There's also a lot of racial talk here. It really was a bit over the top. There's one man working at this establishment who can not keep his mouth shut. I went once, and went back thinking I'd give it another try. There are two gentlemen who cut hair here, both of them are very friendly and usually hilarious. The conversations in this barbershop are an experience of their own. If there is a wait, it usually is only 15 minutes or so. I am always happy with my haircut as well. It is $16 for a hair cut. A+ read more
