Been a regular there for years. Would never go elsewhere. I always stuck with the past owner. One day there were five ahead of me. The other chair was empty. I felt if that man was not really good he would not be there. Had him cut my hair and was very happy. He has now owned the shop for years. Glad I tried him. I hate to be the "guy" to leave a mediocre review; but that's the cut I received. First sign should have told me, as I walked into an empty shop. The haircut was no better than one from a chain. The barber barely asked me for any specific style or how I wanted my sideburns trimmed, back round or straight. He just went about cutting as he saw fit. I prefer "old school shops" over chains, which is why I have been sampling so many all over the place. The only element this shop has is "old" and worn out. The back of neck shavette is always a nice touch. The shaving cream dispenser, for the first time ever, actually had COLD shaving cream. I didn't know that was even possible from the dispenser used (they're all the same in the barber shops). No eyebrow trim. I wished for this to be a new go to place, but alas, the search goes on. read more

We went here after the woman who we had an appointment with at Lindenhurst Barber didn't show up. They don't take appointments, but we got right in with the most kind barber who had been working as a barber for over 60 years. He was quick, kind, and very thorough even shaving part of my dad'd neck and sides (not just using the clipper). It was $15 and they could certainly charge more but wow, what a nice experience to have capable people who show up to their job. This is my dad's new place for haircuts! read more

It's the same price as Great Clips, with a LOT more experience, and he actually uses a straight edge razor. We did not have a wait. A great old school barber shop, hipster free zone. Went in to take the winter beard off with a classic hot towel and straight razor.

It only took one visit to prove to me that this is as good as it gets...no more Great Clips, Hair Cuttery, SportsClips, etc. I will let the masses have at those, while I enjoy all of my future haircuts from Dan the Man at John Lucente's! A co-worker who lives nearby told me last week, out of nowhere, that my haircut looks like shit. I couldn't refute, because he was right. Great Clips had done me WRONG! I asked him where he gets his, and without a beat, he said, "Dude I only go to John Lucente's for the past 5 years." An added bonus being that it is ON my way home was good enough for me to give it a go. I've always found that with me being so particular about my haircuts, I haven't had a damn good cut in a loooong time. But my dry spell ended yesterday. The shop itself is no frills, but they do have the old-school chairs, the vintage feel, and the nostalgic accessories. Plus, they don't use those shitty clippers with the plastic attachments; this is the REAL DEAL. And finally let's not forget 2 very important qualities: price ($14 for men's) and straight-razor neck clean-up. OK, that's it, mind's made...no more going elsewhere. Hometown Barber - Personal Service I grew up going to Lucente's Barber Shop and have not found a comparable option since. While the quality of haircuts varies (sometimes widely) by barber, the service was always great and the barbers stayed there meaning that you learned who was right for you. Very nice mens barber. They have that traditional barber shop feel. Love this place! I've sent my fiancé several places to get his long beard and hair cut. I found this spot on Yelp and decided to try it. We walked in together, I was clearly out of place (traditional boys only barber shop feel where you watch tv and shoot the shit) but they were nice to me still. It's walk-in only and cash or check payment. Other places have butchered his amazing beard, didn't line up the sides or chin and hacked the whole thing off. John was careful and shaped his beard properly and lined it up. He did need to request the beard and sideburns line up straight but it wasn't a problem. He did listen well and was able to properly fade the sides leaving the top long so it an be styled back and ultimately put in a trendy man bun. John even used a straight razor to clean the neck perfectly. He finished by styling his hair back with a perfect vintage wave. The total cost for his amazing service...$14. Now that's a great deal, especially for the quality of work. They also do hot shaves with a straight razor for $25. This place is a perfect, classic barber shop. It's all men cutting. John said he's been doing this over 50 years. It took a long time to find this place and several fake barber shops where a cosmetologist cuts beards and hair. In my opinion, the only one that can appreciate how to properly trim beards is a male barber. The quality of work is just better. read more

I have to go a touch out of my way for my haircut, but I do - definitely worth it. They all cut my hair well, so no wait usually for me.

My experience here was pretty good I was given exactly what I requested. The only downside was the lack of blending on the fade or taper. I don't blame the barber because I've come to the conclusion that in the suburbs it's not very common and I won't be getting the exact taper blends I got in the city. Customer service was good you got the barber shop feel and if you are looking for a good trim this is the place for you. read more
