I was very unimpressed with the quality of the home inspection that I received from Maurie and his team. I was not able to be present for the actual inspection itself as I usually try to be. When I arrived, our inspector was there to go over the issues uncovered during the inspection. There were surprisingly few issues that he informed me of, and the few issues he did tell me about he was very vague about and would not provide me with a legitimate opinion. Instead, he told me several times that he was NOT an expert and that I would have to consult one to get more information about the issues at hand. He would not own up to an opinion about anything for fear of liability. I was under the impression that I was hiring a team of experts to perform an inspection on my potential new home, apparently all that Home Team Inspection Services does is subcontract inspections out to local businesses. They don't inspect anything. When I was shopping for an inspector, I was impressed with their website and was fooled into thinking that they were the most expensive Inspection service in Topeka because of their quality, apparently not. To make a long story short, there were several problems with my new home that were not uncovered and should've been. The water heater didn't work, There was almost no insulation in the attic, the hole in the foundation for the water line to enter the home was not sealed and allowed LOTS of water to enter the basement in the spring, the electrical system was not up to code, there were no exhaust fans in the bathrooms, and the roof needed to be replaced, among other things. To their credit, I was told that there was damage to the roof, but our inspector refused to give me a definitive answer as to whether or not it needed to be replaced (this almost cost me my financing as no insurance company would touch it and had to hire another roofer to evaluate it for me). At the time I hired Home Team Inspection services we had agreed that I would pay at closing. My closing date came and went just fine and it wasn't until nine months later that I came to learn that Home Team had not been paid. I learned of this when they sent me a nasty and rude e-mail saying that they expected payment at once. After investigation, I learned that they had never submitted the bill to the closing agent so they didn't get paid. They had my address, my phone number, and my e-mail and it took them nine months to let me know they hadn't been paid and when they did, I was treated as some kind of lowlife that had cheated them out of something. They forgot to bill me as agreed before hand and they wouldn't even discount the bill for MY trouble, they wanted it paid in full within a couple of days or they threatened rudely to send me to collections. It was very inconvenient to have to come up with such a large sum on such short notice. I felt as if I was dealing with some form of criminal that was holding my credit for ransom, not as the customer that I was. They also copied our e-mail correspondence to my realtor for some reason which I felt was very unprofessional as my realtor had nothing to do with our transaction. It was their mistake that delayed their payment, not mine. I did end up paying them in full because I care about my credit and reputation, but I am greatly disappointed and feel as I paid a premium price for poor customer service and poor quality of work. In closing, if you want to pay too much for a marginal inspection by people that don't even know what to look for and then be treated poorly as a customer, then Home Team is your team! read more
