I went to the intro session with a fairly closed mind, but Coach Corey made some really good points and I really respected his passion for the athletes he coaches. A few months in I cannot believe the results. I'm in better shape now (after two kids) than I was training 12+ hrs a week for triathlons. And I only go 3-4 times a week. Aside from the physical benefits, I really enjoy the small community at this gym. Everyone is so friendly and starting at all different fitness levels. While the group mentality is motivating, it's never judgmental or competitive in a negative way. Everyone starts where they start and ends up in great shape! If you've ever thought about crossfit I'd definitely recommend coming in for a free intro session or to a trial class.

I have been to over 30 different locations across 5 countries and I have to say that Crossfit Empower in Vancouver is one of my favorite spots. Coach Cory is great! I really like his philosophy and approach with his athletes. You can see a difference with his style versus some other places I have been. He really cares about giving you instruction and coaching to ensure you are performing at your personal best. Even for a visitor like myself, he spent the time with me to give a few tips that I attribute to helping me achieve a few PRs when I was working out there. If you are looking for a box with a friendly environment and a coaching philosophy that is truly focused on improvement and bringing out your personal best, I would recommend that you go into Crossfit Empower and speak with Cory.

Backhealer - A class using breath work & the Backhealer ball method to release tight tissue and muscles

I'd been intrigued by this little studio nestled in a cool part of Kits for awhile but didn't take…read morethe jump until a colleague gave me a rundown on his experience with The Backhealer. This guy I knew was pretty tightly wound and travelled with a lot of gear doing sound work for film. He enthusiastically explained that during a session with Steve he was able to relax and release muscles that had been balled up with tension for ages. As I found my own back becoming more and more tense, to the point sleeping was painful at times, I knew I had to go. I started with a private session. I'd been working almost 24/7 for 6 weeks so was pretty tense when I walked in. By the end of it, I felt like a new person. Both my body and mind had opened up. The work he did, using pressure while I focused on my breathe, set me on a better course, teaching me how to reduce tension within my body myself. Given my hectic travel schedule this is exactly what I needed - the tools to help myself. I booked one more private session and did a couple of night classes. Steve was very happy with my progress and said I'd be good to go on my own. So, for very little investment, I saw a huge improvement and feel much more hopeful now that I can take care of my problems myself.

I'm a now a huge fan of Steve and the Backhealer!…read more I've had low back pain issues for about a decade. I have tried yoga, chiropractor, and physiotherapy--all with very small gains. I had been driving past Backhealer's storefront for years was curious and thought "Why not! Let's give this a try!" I've attended classes regularly for about three months now and I am astonished and thrilled at the transformation in my body. My level of pain has dropped from "nagging and constant" to "below the radar" and my strength, posture and awareness have improved a great deal. Steve's Backhealer Method incorporates a number of different healing techniques into a single method. He's really figured out how the body works, what causes back pain and how to relieve it. His method works! However, you have to be prepared to do the work--it's not always fun or easy. Steve is a great motivator, has a terrific sense of humour and really cares about his students. Very, very highly recommended.

I was with my teenage son so it was going to cost $42.... She said it was because it was busy, which I saw one person on the cardio equipment through the window. I feel like I didn't fit their standard for a desirable customer. Not sure what other reason they would have to turn me away. Don't believe the advertising. It is based on the staff's bias of you,

Allow me to make myself clearer, during the 1 year I was a member they've changed managers over 5 times and all of them turned out to be Incompetent, immature and also poorly trained, the later one specially which I believe still manages the space today, Milos, tried hard at the beginning to please me into leaving a better review but turned out to be yet another useless member of Gold's Staff. Not only useless, when I last complained about their system charging me a late fee even though I paid the membership on time, Milos became extremely condescending, laughing at my face while saying "I never make mistakes, if It was someone else charging your fee, I would believe you" All that, while I had a receipt in my hands proving my payment time and date. Milos won't last long, but Gold's seems to keep on sucking no matter the manager they seem to find. Do yourself a favour, NEVER JOIN GOLD'S GYM! Their payment system is predatory, they will charge you without consent, fake times of payment so to make you pay extra fees which are also extremely overcharged coming to be twice as big as the original biweekly charge and they will make you feel as if you are the one at wrong. So to my last try at Gold's Gym of Terror simply to keep myself from having to pay yet another fee which I actually already had paid, I've had to argue for hours with them, compelling to all the hours they've made me waste over the 12 months in order to get myself out of the gym without further charges. DO NOT REGISTER AT GOLD'S GYM, ANY OTHER GYM IS BETTER, SERIOUSLY, ANY. All that is my opinion though, register at your own risk.
