Homestar Property Solutions made me Wait ( a serious understatement) for my money. I billed out for first project (paid on final check) 11/23/13 and last project (paid on final check) 12/28/13. I wasn't paid in full until 3/26/14. This was on a "30 day net" (as per WRITTEN CONTRACT). Then had the audacity to doc me 630.00 to pay for drywall repairs (to a property were I had to cut drywall to gain access so I could run a cable to RESTORE POWER TO THREE ROOMS). Repairing drywall wasn't in contract. I told Jeff Hoehn he would have to take care of drywall. I sent "before" and after "pics" of this project and project was marked and accepted as "complete" on Atrium (online invoicing, contracts.etc.). 150.00 of that 630.00 was a "late fee" because the project didn't get finished in time. This was because they had to have someone to repair drywall. This wasn't anything about repairing drywall in the contract. Why cant they pay me a late fee for taking (literally) 90 days to pay me on a 30 day net?!! They took over 90 days to pay me on a 30 day net and they have the audacity to charge me a "late fee"?!!!! I tried to explain to Jeff Hoehn an Jen Fore that in order to restore power to three bedrooms I had to run a new cable. In order to run a new cable, (because no two things can occupy the same place at the same time-basic physics) that I would have to cut drywall (unless, of course, Jenn and Jeff wanted the cable installed on the outside of the wall). Some people are just (in my opinion) STUPID. It is my understanding that docking someone's pay is against federal labor laws. It is also my understanding that using money that has been docked(stolen) to finance other things is called "diversion of funds". I was also sent (along with my last check) a Letter stating (something to the nature of) by cashing this (final) check I was acknowledging that I paid in full. After MONTHS and months of emails and unanswered phone calls and multiple messages left with Ben Hencke of Homestar Property Solutions regarding 2 unpaid work orders I finally received payment for one of the projects......5 MONTHS LATE. I signed a contract agreeing to 45 day net. After 60 days Ben Hencke told me they were unable to pay me because they had not been paid by their client. My interpretation...."you'lll get paid when we get paid". I didn't sign up for that nor did I ever agree to that. I completed only a total of 4 work orders for Homestar Property Solutions. I was paid on time (45 days) on 1. And I remain upaid $761 for a work order I completed in March of 2014. It's now October. As we sit here today 1-15-15 we are waiting to be paid for service rendered for Homestar Property Solutions back in September 2014. Mind you, we did not solicit work from them, they contacted us to bail them out on a issue on a pool, that another vendor failed to perform on. We solved the issue by timely service all documented with forms filed, pictures submitted and electronic approval of all work with a hearty thanks from their rep E. Lopez. We were promised payment within 45 days and we accepted that believing they would honor that commitment. To date we have not received one response to our multitude of phone calls and e-mails to B, Borderlon- SVP of claims or T. Davis- Client Manager. E. Lopez says he has sent communication to many superiors to no result, yet I have received no confirming copy of said communication as promised. It's a sad day when we trust a national company to honor it's obligations and pay as contracted, and cannot even get a professional return call. We have employees and expenses that we incurred in doing the work in good faith and yet here we sit with no payment. I'm so disappointed we can't give someone a 0 stars! This company is a SCAM! Please contractors, do not ever sign on with them! They will ruin your small business for sure! Despite all the bad reviews, this company assured us that they were not a rip off. They stated that it was another Homestar, prior to some acquisition or merger. This is a lie! It is the same rip off company! We did over $25,000 in work to a home in Las Vegas for them. They disappeared for almost 3 months after about 1 month of work. Then after their credit cards stopped bouncing all over town at Lowes and Sherwin Williams, they finally got the rest of the materials to me. Then they disappeared again sending me from one person to the next, none of them ever answered me. We did almost $8000 in extras alone, in addition to our contract! If you have been ripped off by this company, please don't settle! We obtained an attorney who has told us that they are not allowed to "fine" you $1000 for talking to the client! Our lawyer said they are no entity to even fine someone! Please don't take the bullying from Homestar! Find a lawyer immediately that will help you get your full contract amount! I have even had state judges say their contracts are filled with shady verbage and no one should sign it! We refused to listen to the fine for a lien. We put a lien on the property immediately when things got shady. The house can not be sold until we are paid, in full! Please stay away from Homestar LLC! They even screwed over Penny Mac, a major lender! Penny Mac fired them last month due to their inability to stay in contact and complete the job they were hired for! I feel so badly for all the people who have been ripped off over the years! The only good thing about us being ripped off is the joke is finally on Homestar! Penny Mac has agreed to pay us in full for our contract and all the extras immediately. Penny Mac has also fired and refused to pay Homestar a dime! I am so excited to see that finally Homestar will lose on this one! They don't get to rip off a client or a lender this time!! Our certified mail finally came back to us this morning since Homestar refused it (it was the lien paperwork). They can refuse the paperwork, but the lien is still firmly in place! I am hoping this is finally the end of Homestar LLC! I think finally, they are unable to profit by ripping off people! They have been doing this to people for years and it looks like it's finally caught up to them! Our attorney's even found out that when Homestar told us that they had never been in Nevada before and were "breaking in" to Las Vegas in March of 2016, that was a lie! They had applied for a "dba" business license in 2014, as of 2015 the state of NV put them on the list of businesses in bad standing in the state! They shouldn't even have been doing business here or putting contracts out here! We also notice that they prey on small, family run businesses! It's because they bully them around, scam them, then leave them with their small business in ruins! Please contractors across the US, do NOT sign with these crooks! Unfortunately, I've finally been pushed to the point of writing a negative review on Yelp about another P&P company. Having owned and operated a successful P&P company in New England for 10 years, I've never been pushed to the point of going public to talk badly about another company. It's always been my feeling that if you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all. But, after repeated attempts over the last 3 months to try to get paid for work completed by Homestar on invoices over 90 days old, I feel I have no other alternative. We did not solicit work from them, we too were approached by Homestar to bail them out of some problem properties in MA and NJ. We received email requests from their employees to submit bids to complete yard maintenance on a couple dozen properties. Many of the bids were approved (we have the approvals in writing in emails). We were told by the employees and we have the emails to back this up, that we were NOT to use their online system, but to submit all photos and invoices through email, which is what we did. To date, Homestar has been giving us the runaround that this manager or that manager needs to review and approve payment. Now they've resorted to just blocking emails from my company and no longer taking our phone calls. This is the most unprofessional and unethical business practice I've ever seen. It is what truly gives the property preservation industry a bad name. If you are a contractor looking for work in P&P, DO NOT WORK FOR HOMESTAR, you will get hurt. If you are a bank or servicer looking or a mortgage field service company, DO NOT USE HOMESTAR, they are unethical, unprofessional, and are not paying their field vendors. read more
