They are a little pricey on their snack shop, if you're being lazy, a candy bar is three dollars plus tax ! So bring your own snacks!

SMI is a lovely old country inn on 14 acres, I believe, with a number of different venues (indoors and out) for meetings, parties, and weddings. The rooms (7 in total) were eclectic, in a good way. All four of their largest rooms that we occupied were spacious, with king beds and spa tubs with separate showers. All were well maintained and clean upon check-in. We had no complaints. I'm not sure when we will return to the area, but when we do, we will not hesitate to return!

She cordially gave us a 20 min tour around the property, which was built in 1908, and even gave me a bonus tour of the other rooms afterwards. She kindly answered all of our questions and didn't rush us. The Peacecock Room is the most spacious and best room (aside from the bridal suite), elaborately decorated in peacocks. We loved it! The little touches like the handmade soap, a set of wine glasses, and a wine opener made the stay so memorable and special. While the rooms aren't temperature controlled, the electric flameless fireplace kept the room warm. The double capacity jacuzzi was perfect for my hubby and I and even had lights (some of the other rooms have smaller jacuzzi, so be sure to check). The rooms were clean minus a couple of lady bugs and stink bugs (which is too be expected out in the country). Dr. Fauci's assistant stayed here and Manisha informed us of the extensive sanitation process, even the pillows and decorations are quarantined for 6 days! The backyard is well groomed and really spacious with a nice patio and heat lamp, which kept us warm sitting outside in the frigid winter. Our dog loved running around! You can see the stars and constellations really well. It would make a great wedding venue! The Christmas decorations around the property are really nice. The owners really go the extra mile and put a lot of TLC into the property. The 6 course breakfast is delicious and bursting with flavor. Between the veggie quiche, cheesy potatoes, scone, pancakes, yogurt, and fresh OJ, I was stuffed! The fresh butterscotch scone was divine and devoured my mine and my hubby's! The cheesy potato had a nice spicy kick. Everything was so fresh and delicious. All the courses come out at once on a large tray. While my hubby and I chose to sit at the communal table (the chairs are roughly 6 feet apart), you can take the tray up to your room. Manisha and her family greeted us and thoroughly explained the dishes and chatted with us for a bit, even her son made an appearance! The bed and breakfast has a nice bar with wine, cider, and alcohol based on an honor code system. Water and soda is complementary, they even had Coke 0! The complementary fudgy brownies by the breakfast area during the day were sweet and tasty. Again the little complimentary stuff gives this bed and breakfast a nice resort feel. But the customer service and stinginess of the ownership is quite evident. When they say breakfast is done at 9:30 on a weekend (and let's be real, who only has breakfast until 9:30 on a weekend), they mean that all the food is away by 9:30. I never thought I would have to fight someone for a banana before it went back into the kitchen to be reused for tomorrow. In addition, it seemed that mostly everyone (except the younger crew-cut male on the morning shift) who worked behind the front desk did not want to speak to any guests and would actively try to not be customer facing and simply just point to get their point across. When we asked if they would be willing to give us a complimentary bottle of water at 1:30 am we just got a point to a fridge to buy it. As a Platinum member, you really couldn't spare a bottle of water in the middle of the night.

The breakfast was good and convenient for the location -- the complex that this hotel sits in has surprisingly limited food options and I was using rideshares to get anywhere on this trip. The staff at the breakfast were constantly monitoring the area and making sure dishes were cleared and food was available. The elevators worked, my room was clean and quiet and I couldn't ask for much more. Their breakfast is really good for a hotel (fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, toast, bagels, muffins, cereal (even Lucky Charms) and a host of other good items. Their workout facility is awesome a good mix of cardio and free weights. They have a pool table that some of the patrons seem to enjoy playing on at night. I travel frequently and they've always ensured I have a great stay. The resort has two 18-hole golf courses that were built when the hotel was constructed in the early 1990's and are designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr and Greg Norman. The rooms are a bit dated but comfy and the staff are friendly and professional. The following morning we dined at the restaurant downstairs where we enjoyed the breakfast buffet. The buffet includes cook to order eggs and omelets in addition to the full buffet. Breakfast was not included in my room rate and was around $30.00 per person. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here since its located nearby many wineries, offers walking trails, and many recreational activities onsite.

The shower door is such that you have to step into the shower to turn it on - the cold spray, while adjusting it, is not how I want to wake up on a cold morning. The grout around the shower floor was moldy. It is an easy ride to and from D.C. when there is minimal traffic, but a huge delay other times. I give it a 4 star because it's not bad.
