We previously took our dogs to the Humane Society but 2 of our girls had issues that none of the…read morevets could either agree on or fix so we went to Dutton as a last ditch effort and we are SO very happy we did. Our biggest issue and #1 reason for trying Dutton was our Piper. Piper was a little over 1 year old when we first took her to Dutton. She had been dealing with chronic diarrhea for over 6 months. The Humane Society vets had different opinions of what the cause was and what the treatment approach should be but they all kept prescribing her a certain medicine to "fix" it. The daily pill was meant to cure giardia even though they didn't think she had it. The issue was that the pill worked and fixed her upset stomach but AS SOON AS she was off it, she would get the diarrhea again. Dr. Mills at Dutton told us that this medication was not meant for long term use and there is no reason why she was being continually prescribed it for 5+ months... she could've seized up and died on us at any moment. We were so upset and thankful that Dr. Mills told us that so we stopped giving it to her immediately. Dr. Mills prescribed Tylan powder and sent us home with a full bag of Royal Canin food (for free, by the way) to see if that would help Piper's issue. The Tylan powder was MAGIC. Dr. Mills assured us this was something that dogs with IBS take daily and unlike the pill she was previously on, there are absolutely no negative side effects. When we went back for our follow up appointment Dr. Mills was not in (we scheduled with him but he had called out that day) and that is when we met with Dr. Seymour. Dr. Seymour told us the powder is a good plan and as long as we're OK with it, that's what we'll do. She did tried to wean her off of it but it was a no go so Piper will get 1/8 of this powder every 3rd day for the rest of her life but that's fine... it works, it's easy and it's cheap. No problem. Other vets we spoke to about Piper (not at Dutton) were really quick to have tests done on her which included anesthesia but what we liked about Dr. Seymour was that her treatment plan was safer and less invasive... only to resort to the expensive testing that required anesthesia should 1) we get tired of administering Tylan powder or 2) the Tylan powder stopped working. Soo... thanks to Dr. Mills and Dr. Seymour, our Piper is FIXED after 6+ months of her issue. While we felt comfortable with Dr. Mills and we fully trusted his knowledge, when we met Dr. Seymour on our follow up visit we decided to always see her from that point forward. We had previously dealt with more than 1 vet at the Humane Society and the conflicting opinions was not only confusing but also frustrating. In the interest of keeping things consistent, we now only see Dr. Seymour. However, we would gladly see Dr. Mills if she no longer worked there or if there was an emergency situation and she was not in. Both Dr. Mills and Dr. Seymour are very kind, easy to speak to and helpful. Since we had such a positive experience with Piper, we brought our 2nd girl in to see if there was an answer for her. Our Maggie had severe allergies and Dr. Seymour prescribed her Apoquel which we had never heard of before. Maggie had no hair... she was pink and her skin was goopy. We had her on other allergy medicine for years, tried switching her foods and also were giving her fish oil. We were wary of new medication but Dr. Seymour explained that her dog takes it too so we bit the bullet. After being put on the Apoquel, Maggie grew her hair back and was DEFINITELY more active and social. YAY! The ladies in the office were even amazed at how much hair she had because at the first appointment she was totally bald... even her tail. Besides the fantastic staff at Dutton, another big deal for us was the affordability. When comparing office visit prices to what we previously paid at the Humane Society and other vets, Dutton was a BIG price difference. A lot more affordable. That is a big deal... especially when you have more than 1 animal. The cost of medications was the same as what we paid at the others vets. The third positive point about Dutton would have to be the hours of operation. Dutton is open on the weekends and late nights during the week... can't beat that. A bonus at Dutton is that they sell pet care items for really low prices on site. We get $1 tooth brushes and tooth paste for a couple bucks whenever we go. We also snagged a $200 Pet Gear stroller for $25! YOU MUST pay with cash for these items but it is absolutely worth it. Overall we are extremely happy with Dutton and have no plans to switch. We recommend them to everyone we know. If you're a first timer, they run coupons in the paper and sometimes have one on their website for 10% off your first visit. There is 1 thing I would like to give people a heads up about-- they charge a service fee for using your credit card. Bring cash or check to avoid the fee.

I had her euthanasia scheduled for Saturday morning at 11. She chose to go on her own, she had no fight left in her. She was 19 years old (Oct 2). She had advanced heart disease and was in kidney failure due to the medication she was prescribed for her heart. She was on the medication for over 3 years, we monitored her at her primary vet as well as her cardiologist. She fought hard. Such a tough little girl. But Friday, she was done. I have thought and feared this day since the moment I got her. I wish I had gotten that one last night or taken the day off but there was no way I could of predicted what I came home to. As I sat there with her, watching her last breaths and having my hand on her last heartbeats, I had no idea what I was supposed to do. I was sobbing and saying the words that she had died were impossible . I called the vet back to cancel my Saturday appt assuming they would have a plan for her body. There is not a plan for this circumstance. The call taker just said to call around and find a place that does pet cremations. I had to google places . Only 3 places came up. 2 being closed til 9am on Saturday and the 3rd, Dear Pet Memorial Park, OPEN 24 hrs! I thought this can't be right but I called and Keith answered immediately. I don't even think it rang twice before he answered. Through my tears, I briefly explained what had just happened. No hesitation, he said, I can be there within the hour. Sure enough, he was here in 45 mins. His presence brought some kind of peace to the situation. He gave me the choice to hold her for a little while later or take her out when he arrived. I did have him take her right away. I kissed her little cold nose and handed her to him. After she was settled, ready to be transported in his car, he came back in to discuss the process. I was going with a private cremation instead of communal. He went over the timeline and said he would have her back on Tuesday. He wasn't pushy with the add ons ( paw print, jewlery, urns) he just gave me the options he had to offer. I chose a clay paw print in a shadow box , with the rainbow bridge poem on the other side. I also got the basic wooden box with her name on a gold plate. The box is not sealed which is what I would of requested anyway because I'm going to have a piece of jewelry made from her ashes. Sure enough, Tuesday is here and she is back home. The paw print is amazing, I was never able to push her paw into clay or ink and get an impression. I'm so thankful Keith was able to get it just as imagined it would be. I would recommend this business and Keith to anyone in the area. He is compassionate, and caring. The exact person/personality you would want helping you at the worst moment of your life. I can't say enough good things about him and his business. Telling him "Thank You" is not enough. To have someone , a complete stranger, come to your house and comfort you so quickly is just amazing. I will remember his kindness forever. Thank You Keith!!! I am posting a few pictures of Cady during better times.

I was blessed to have had that once in a life time pet who was more than a pet. He was a companion…read morewho served as a psychoanalyst when one was needed and whose innate ability to provide love exceeded any expectations that we as humans can place on others. Wesley was his name. He was a rescued Cocker Spaniel so his age was a great unknown; an estimate; a good guess from veterinarians. But as 2017's New Year's Eve celebrations settled down it was a good guess that Wesley at his youngest was 15 and at his oldest around 17. It didn't matter which number you chose because when the human versus dog year calculation is made it meant that Wes was over 100 with less days to go than days he had travelled with me. As with any aging pet one notices the slow down ... one mourns the missing spryness and energy that used to fill each day while celebrating the occasional rear view mirror days when our pets out of nowhere act just as they did in their youth. That was Wesley. But, Wesley never stopped knowing the importance of sitting close to me during my down days but also of wagging his tail and almost smiling during sporting events when my cheers indicated that our teams (Buffalo-based primarily) were winning (Since they were Buffalo-based the frequency was not as we both wanted.). The awakening occurred as April melted into May. He was really slowing down ... then he was hardly eating ... and finally I knew; he knew; and we spent his last evening and night together as friends. I was fortunate enough that he crossed the proverbial Rainbow Bridge in the night at home in the midst of sleep and peace near me. But, on the evening before Wes died we started to look at 'crematoriums' for pets together. Ok, I know that sounds strange but I knew he was going so I talked to him. Frankly, the YELP reviews of southern New Jersey facilities greatly disappointed me because none seen to indicate anything more than a processing center but then I read the reviews for this special place. The night that Wes died I called Delaware Pet Crematorium but it was "after hours" so I left a message. Less than an hour later Rob, the owner, called me back. I inundated him with questions about why he was in the business, what did he do with pets that people didn't want back, etc.. I needed to know if this was the place for me to bring my friend, companion, and family member to be cared for. The phone conversation convinced me. So, we drove across state borders to Wilimington and I will admit that industrial park where Delaware Pet is located almost caused me to turn around but I am glad I didn't. I walked into an incredibly peaceful office setting that was tranquil in its carefully thought out design. This was a place I could mourn ... this was a place I could entrust Wesley to. The young woman who has worked there for years showed great compassion to me and her dog Gwen brought me her toy and kissed me to let me know all was alright. They offered to carry Wes in but I did however in the transfer of Wes' body to their hands I saw love and respect for my dead dog. They valued a life that they had never known. They treated his body as if Wes was their dog. The options were explained ... and then the wait. I received a call that Wesley was ready. There was Gwen wagging her tail, the entire package of urns/memorials was better than expected. But what really impressed me was the young man who had just helped me bring Wesley in spotted me (Now, I didn't say when I was coming in so they could not prep for my arrival.) and said they had made sure Wesley was cared for in the way I wanted. I cried again both in sorrow at my loss but in joy that I had found the right people to care for my pet's body ... his soul was already romping and barking with all the other dogs on the other side. I would drive hundreds of miles to bring a pet here ... I told them that I hope I don't need to see them for years but I know that they are there. They have a website, www.theanimalsoul.com, which may explain the why's but if you are in South Jersey, the Delaware Valley, or Maryland and you lose a loved pet that you want to remember with love ... this is the only choice; you will feel loved. I can't say enough about them!

At first, Diana was amazing. She was patient and worked with me to build trust with our dog. Then, out of no where, she just stopped responding to my calls, texts and emails (she was supposed to walk our dog one day and just disappeared). My first instinct was that she was hurt or sick, so I spent several days trying to get in touch with her to make sure she was okay. It was only until I read the other reviews that I realized that this was a theme - Diana would simply just disappear. On top of this, I paid Diana for a number of walks in advance (which I admittedly found a bit odd). Since I wasn't able to contact her, I had to go to Venmo and issue a dispute. They eventually refunded me the money since it was clear she was being paid for services she did not provide. I'm honestly shocked that this woman is running a customer facing business. I feel duped, particularly since I was genuinely worried about her when she first stopped responding. We had great conversation and she was seemingly normal; however, given the fact that she disappears from clients obviously suggests otherwise.
