That would have been fine. But what really annoyed me was the application process. The management is not familiar with more modern ways to verify employment and income (such as third party service) and insisted on unredacted pay stubs - which is much less secure. The interaction as we went back and forth was rude and reminded me of scammers trying to get one to divulge information urgently (because so many people are interested in the apartment!) at the cost of better judgement. In trying to get more information from me they cited their "policies" but being unable to articulate why their policy insists on having the information I didn't want to share (like my pre-tax deductions) This conversation was not with some mid-level employee but what seemed to be the owner. I should hope he could articulate the reasoning behind his own policy! To me, this company clearly orients themselves to customer service of property owners, not renters. Which fair enough, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. To the reader/renter: Don't let these people bully you!

Prompt responses to emails, quick answers to phone calls, transparent updates throughout the process, and even reassurances to call you back if they are tied up at the moment (and they actually call back as soon as they can!) Since my roommates and I are all out of town at the moment, and unable to tour the property in person prior to signing the lease agreement, Hanna assured me that her assistant Johnny would send me a video tour the following day. And sure enough, the next day - Johnny had a detailed video tour of the home in my inbox. Any question I had about the property, Johnny was able to answer. We so look forward to working with Hanna and her team during the duration of our lease agreement. If the last week is any indication of how our experiences will be as Rent the District tenants, I very much look forward to staying at this property. All one has to do is scroll through the negative reviews and it plain to see that the pattern of complaints has been the same for 14 years straight: unresponsive staffers, poorly maintained properties, inability to rent out properties in a timely way, holding on to security deposit, requesting deposits before providing leases for prospective tenant review, and so on. A recent example: my AC went out on a Saturday during the brutal heat wave (110 heat index). Fiona at NLR kept in contact with me all day and was able to have a repair person at my house that evening. He diagnosed and fixed the problem within 30 minutes. I am 10 months into a mess caused by a pipe bursting then the contractor breaking the radiator. I had to wait over a month for them to begin to address the issue (my wood floors literally warped into a hill), they gave me an inaccurate timeline for me having to temporarily move out of my apartment, then the work completed was both substandard and incomplete. Despite not having the time to address this, they did have time to send me a letter informing me my rent would be increasing. I had to follow up with them multiple times for them to address the issues. They had a contractor come out to look at the issues then they had no follow up with me but again had time to update my rent in their systems. Also, the difference between property managers is stark. We used to have a property manager who would follow up and communicate with residents. However, now our property manager hides in his office and does not follow up. I have had to be the one to follow up with him about scheduling contractors and adding promised rent credits to my account. Prior to this issue, I thought BMC was pretty good, but I only had minor maintenance issues where their maintenance team handled the issue. I love my apartment and my neighbors so I am hoping they will finally be able to fix my floors and walls and I can go back to not having to communicate with the management team.

When I requested repairs be done to the apartment, I had to constantly call the company to request the repairs be made. On numerous occasions repairs were insufficient and changes were made in my apartment WITHOUT my permission. THE WORST!!! RENTER BEWARE! The WORST part of this company is CELIA, she is apathetic and unprofessional. If you have any problems you have to constantly call her because she always "forgets" because "it got so busy" or "it's tax season."
