It has been a nightmare since day one. One of our family feels the need to be there almost daily to check on my mom. There is not enough staff...3 to 40 dementia residents at night , medication is given incorrectly, if given at all, my mom has fallen, at least twice...once needed to be transported to hospital ER with no accompaniment from the nursing home...I found her alone on a stretcher in the hallway of the ER. She is often left alone either in her room...or to wander the hall. All this for over 200.00 a day.

The Arbors is owned and operated by Benchmark Corp - their entire focus is on making money NOT quality care. No better at Bedford Falls in fact it was actually worse. Poor care - lost count of how many medication errors they made. Safety - my father was able to get out of his bedroom window at The Arbors without any staff knowing....and it's a secure community! We moved him their from Bedford Falls because they also were not able to keep him engaged and safe! No communication between departments and or shifts about care, issues or updates. Documentation is almost non existent at these places and they like it that way so it's hard to hold them accountable. No proactive communication with family. We made them host care plan meetings to provide updates to us! More than half of my father's belongings were "lost" regardless that everything had to be labeled by us when we moved him in and their response was "oh that happens....". Activities lacked diversity and personalization. Corporate Benchmark has been completely unresponsive to any and all issues we brought to their attention. If it were not for covid we would have moved my Dad after the first few months even with them promising us repeatedly "it will get better, it will get better". Well, it never did get better and then they blamed him as being " a challenge"! And all THAT isn't enough to make you run as fast as you can away from Benchmark, sadly my Dad died of covid in their care over a month ago. I have yet to receive any sort of condolences from them and we still have not received much of his personal belongings back! I'll say it again - My recommendation is keep looking - Benchmark's "benchmark for care and quality is VERY low and your loved one deserves better!

When visiting, my loved ones hair frequently looked dirty and her clothing was stained with food. Many times her clothing, shoes, etc. would go missing. There was never an activity or music or anything to stimulate the residents. They were either in their rooms alone or out in a public space slumped over in a chair. I do not feel that they make any effort to feed or help the residents eat their meals. She had a few falls, once leading to a cut on her hand. God only knows how long she laid on the floor before someone helped her, and there was so much blood on the carpet that it looked like a crime scene. The rooms and carpets were dirty and often smelled of urine. Needless to stay, they atleast provided a locked door, but this is NOT sufficient care for the elderly. I am unsure how the management of this facility can live with themselves knowing this facility is so poorly run. The State of Maine should shut this place down.

Friends of mine were recently relocated at Cape Memory Care, a move not of their own choosing…read morethough they definitely needed 24 assisted living care. i am a professional caregiver and so have visit or worked in a variety of senior living facilities. When I visited for the first time, a few days after they moved in, I found the place attractively decorated and their room was clean and quite pretty. I was hit with the odor of feces when I entered the building however, and the odor persisted in most of the public spaces. I accompanied my friends to dinner and was distressed to see only three attendants in the dining room, one of whom was working on medications. Med techs are not supposed to be disturbed while preparing patient medications, but this person also helped with residents in the dining room and in fact, was the most accessible of the three. English was not the native language of the attendants and they spoke to each other in what I assume was Somali. They accompanied residents into the dining room - one of whom was dressed in an untied hospital gown exposing her depends. They did not seem to be conversing with the residents as they brought them in. The food looked decent. The attendants were busy bringing dishes to the tables and did not interact with the residents much. I was disappointed by the lack of interaction and by the fact that none of the attendants were people the residents, all with diminished faculties, would have been comfortable with in their past lives. I was sorry that the attendants seemed uninformed about my friends' particular needs. Providing an environment where some of their former comforts are available is key to a positive adaption to their new space. I had agreed that my friends needed the move, but have more than second thoughts now. I know that staff try to do their best job, but the facility needs a level of staffing that allows them to do a good job, as well as the training and administrative guidance that assures a standard of care. I saw neither.

You can see residents light up when the dogs come around - the smiles, the gentle petting, and the calm they bring are absolutely priceless. The staff is kind, patient, and genuinely caring. They go out of their way to make sure residents are engaged, comfortable, and treated with dignity and respect. Clean linen is stacked on top on dirty linen containers; infection control problem. There are huge outside-type garbage cans in the dining room. (We don't have those inside in our homes/dining rooms?!) Unfortunately my parent was admitted by other family members. Food is left, not cleaned up, on the tables, after meals. My family member's room began to smell badly of urine. She was not attended to in a timely manner - left for hours at time and not assisted to the bathroom. (Memory Care Unit). There were a few staff members who were very nice, however, her response to most became obvious and not positive. My family members thankfully eventually decided to move her to a different assisted living. I absolutely do not recommend this facility and wish that my mother had never been admitted there. This review is written by a person who operated nursing home/rehab centers in 2 states for 14 years, and spent another 15 years in health care management.

The care, meals and activities provided a balance for her happiness. Her care was exceptional. The staff were personal, caring and compassionate. They took the time and really got to know her and her likes and needs. Mom's last days of life were spent at BaySquare. It was so comforting for her to be there, at home, with people she knew and loved caring for her. BaySquare nursing staff treated her with great dignity and supported our family in this time of need.
