The first time I went to Thrive was on 3/14 for a consult. I was told the they did not accept my insurance (Tufts), but they were in the process of being approved. The consult was complimentary so I proceeded with the appointment.
The same day I received a voicemail saying that they had been approved so I was now able to come in and be covered by my insurance. I called Tufts to confirm and they said no, they had no information on Thrive at all. I called Dr. Mike who repeatedly said yes, we are covered by Tufts but they must not have updated the information yet.
Convinced, I went in a week later for x-rays and the following week to discuss the findings, view my treatment plan and have my first adjustment (after already being there twice).
I was shocked to see my treatment plan- 4 times a week for the first week, 3 times a week for three weeks, 2 times a week for four weeks and 1 time a week for sixteen weeks with a grand total of 37 visits over six months. That is not including a "spinal workshop" I was supposed to come to within the first month of treatment. I was then told that I was required to pay up front for each month, either one lump payment or four payments broken up, instead of being able to pay my $25 co-pay at each visit. I found this very strange and uncomfortable, but payed my first of four payments of over $80 for appointments I haven't even had yet. Then I was told that they schedule all 37 appointments for the next six months and I was not able to cancel, only reschedule. As a young college student working two jobs and trying to keep a social life, planning the next six months of my life around chiropractic appointments seems absurd.
I felt feeling totally scammed and very confused so I called Tufts again who said nope, still no record of Thrive or either of their doctors two weeks after my last call which meant I had gone to three appointments with no insurance coverage. I called Dr. Mike who said that Tufts "messed up", was "difficult to deal with" and had supposed "given him the wrong information". He now stated that they would be accepting Tufts starting 3/30 and that he would absorb the cost of my 3 uncovered appointments. I'm hopeful that he will, but definitely not convinced. I called Tufts again 4/1 to see if they now contract with Thrive and was told again, no they have no record of Thrive. So instead of being treated for a month I am left searching for yet another chiropractor and may end up receiving a bill for the full amount of the services I received out of pocket. read more
