I especially like the tile floors and the vine covered staircase to the upstairs. The store also has a small selection of books up stairs. They sell sustainable mattresses and bedding. I'm almost never on The Commons anymore, but I had a gift certificate for this store that I needed to use... so when I was able to get out of work a little early one day recently, I decided to stop for my first visit to Home Green Home. And what a delight it was! It's a really lovely and welcoming shop with plenty of plants, books, meditation or yoga supplies, bedding, prints, and more. With a focus on eco-friendly products, the prices aren't necessarily for the budget conscious, but you can rest assured that the quality is there. The staff here are happy to help, but also let you wander the store without being overly pushy or hovering. I got into a conversation with one of them regarding some of the plants they had available - and she was quite excited to show me a new plant that she had just learned about. I ended up buying a couple plants (among other items), as I had managed to find a cebu blue pothos tucked away upstairs, as well as a white princess philodendron on display downstairs... both of which had been on my plant wishlist for a while. TL;DR. It's probably a good thing that I'm not on The Commons often, because it'd be very easy for me to spend way too much money here (especially on the bedding items, as I'm a sucker for comfy blankets and all that). That said, I'm definitely adding Home Green Home to my list of favorite Ithaca shops. Highly recommend it! read more

I haven't been here in a few years, since it was on the other end of the Commons. This space is so cute! The bright pink staircase in the middle of the store was very cheery, and there were adorable accents hidden throughout like a pink vintage telephone. The bottom level was very bright while the top was more shadowy. Very calm vibes though, and lots of beautiful products everywhere you look! The store is mostly not for the budget-conscious shopper, but that's par for the course with any place on the Commons, pretty much. The items are all sustainable and high-quality though, so if you want to spend your green to be green, this is the place to come. Fun to browse too! read more

Home Green Home is a lovely little eco friendly shop in the heart of the Ithaca Commons. They have everything you could possibly need, and some things you didn't realize were an option! They also have a small coffee counter inside with great, friendly staff. The barista asked if I wanted to try a bit of orange cardamom syrup in my matcha latte and it was delicious! I'll definitely be coming back the next time I'm in Ithaca! read more

This is a lovely little store with eco-friendly home goods and gifts. Particularly notable is their selection of books - whoever does the curation of their library is on point. Cute organic t-shirts, glass/stainless kids lunch containers, yoga stuff, singing bowls, essential oil lotions & bug sprays, canning supplies, organic seeds... it's a cool place with an eclectic selection. Be forewarned: this shop is not inexpensive - I'm sure you can find much of whats here elsewhere online for less - but here it's all in one place, with friendly customer service, and free gift wrapping! Home Green Home is a lovely, relaxed store where I like to stop in and just browse for a bit. The staff is helpful but not pushy, which is nice for students like me who can only dream of buying their beautiful furniture. Although the store is mostly stocked with eco-conscious home furnishings, it also has a small section with low- and no-VOC paints, green cleaning products, and small composters. For people on a budget, this is a great place to pick up smaller items like recycled printer paper, folders and cd sleeves made from recycled paper, energy-efficient light bulbs, or a bar of locally-made soap. The store also carries fantastic, pure olive and coconut oil lip balms by 17th Century Suds, a local company; the lavender and rosemary lip balms are my favorite. read more

This is officially my first yelp following my honeymoon, so expect several more as I find time to squeeze them in here and there as we unpack and are back to work (I know - the suspense is killing you). A very cute and modern green home store focusing on environmentally friendly decor, as well as art, some books, etc. etc. The people working there were very nice, and they had some really nice furniture, photographs, paintings, kitchen wares, flooring - the list goes on - all "green" and not inexpensive. I think that is the only reason they don't get the fifth star - I'm not rich and famous enough to shop there with any regularity - plus I live 8 hours away which also makes it difficult. We bought a soap dish refabbed from a beer or wine bottle, a book, and some locally made lavender/lemongrass soap which makes me smell pretty. If you've got $500 burning a hole in your pocket you might be able to score an end table made from reclaimed wood, or some smaller items that will not only make your house way cool, but help the earth out a bit too. Well worth a stop, and if you've got the money you should spend the time. read more

Staff is so friendly! I stopped in to get a espresso drink from the cafe and the barista offered to make me an off menu drink. It was a latte with white chocolate ganache with cracked pink peppercorns. So fun and just the right amount of extra!!! read more

I agree with the other reviewer - we are very lucky to have this store in Ithaca. Until I find this store, I had no idea the alternatives to cushions or bed materials dosed in formaldehyde (flame retardant), a known carcinogen, banned in Europe, and many other developed countries in the world, actually exist within the US border. And I found this store! (Fyi, as I found out, in case you are looking for more options, you can also go shop at local crafts fair, or check Amish businesses). Items sold here are not cheap, to be sure, but I'm positive I will save much more in medical cost down the road in my 60s, 70s, 80s.... A very nice store! read more

We are sooooo lucky to have Home Green Home (HGH) in our community! It is a paradise, safe haven, destination, necessity for those who believe in keeping our home/our earth green and clean. I feel at home here. I can talk to the staff and the owner, who is very accessible, about: alternatives to plastic, locally made soaps, as well as a FREE DVD lending library) and not feel like a weirdo just because I want to live a healthier lifestyle and save money. Yes, you will save money in the long run because everything in the store is quality, made with love and made to last!! My boyfriend and I saved up and bought an organic mattress last summer. Yes, it is more expensive than the typical chemical-laden mattresses in big box stores (I am trying to avoid a lifetime of illnesses). The mattress is made just a few miles away with organic materials!! My boyfriend and I didn't take a vacation last year, but after investing in an organic mattress, we feel like we are able to take a vacation every night of the year with a such a wonderful night's sleep. Two years ago we bought a natural latex mattress for our platform bed from Home Green Home in Ithaca, NY. Wonderful purchase, and the staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Though the store has recently downsized its showroom (bummer), it can still order absolutely gorgeous, sustainable furniture that is both comfortable and modern, while being clearly eco-conscious in design and materials.
