My son adopted a wonderful cattle dog mix pup during the summer of 2020. She was supposed to be spayed. Last week, she was in HEAT! I brought her to the vet and the vet suspected that a piece of ovary was left inside of her. The pup went into surgery the very next day and they found 2 ovaries and a uterus stem. The pup wasn't really spayed, she was damaged so that she couldn't have pups. I'm sure that Home Fur good is a fine organization, but I suggest that if you adopt from them, try to go to a vet you really trust for the spay or neutering to avoid very expensive surgery in the future.

What can I say. $20 shots with no BS exam fee. Plus, it benefits the shelter. yes, it is often slightly disorganized, run by volunteers and sometimes children. Yes, there is barking. Yes, you will wait a long time if you come at certain times. Listen carefully...twenty dollars.

Gracie adopted 3 weeks ago, now 8/14/20 just yesterday turned 4 months! Super sweet and spunky!

They are very quick and efficient in these Covid times! They keep the kittens and cats together and very well taken for!

I would Like to Reply to Crystal S. Review. I have spent 30 years involved in Rescue. The People at HFG are very genuine and are all about finding the animals the Best home Possible. I had absolutely no problem adopting from them and will again. I would be willing to Bet that there was something about Your personality, the way that you interacted with the animals or possibly your living conditions that turned them off. All I can say is cudo's to them for being aware of a good adoption vs. a bad one. Perhaps you'd be better off going to that big place up the street where the only thing that the care about is turnover

FYI, Home Fur Good's old location just up 32nd Street had eight reviews and a five star average. It's unfortunate those reviews have not transferred over to the new location. Remember folks, this is not PetSmart, even though Home Fur Good does do adoption events there. It is a non profit volunteer rescue organization and should be evaluated as such. With that perspective in mind, HFG can only be considered to be awesome! I've never volunteered here. Never adopted a pet here. But I have had several interactions with HFG, all good. They have been nothing but kind and professional. Most recently, we visited this location to see a dog that was available for adoption. They were amazingly patient with us. Two long visits and an adverse family allergy reaction later, I'm afraid this pooch had to find a forever home elsewhere, but a very positive impression had been made by the volunteers at HFG. We bought a few items at the small gift shop they operate on site, perhaps out of guilt, and went on our way. Yes, they do hold vaccination and microchip events every Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Very affordable. Check their website for detailed pricing. http://homefurgood.org/clinic/ Thanks HFG. We'll be back!

The shelter is full so they couldn't help me with my desperate situation. They have an 8-10 week waiting list.

My wife and I had wanted a dog for a long time and we were finally in the right place in our lives…read moreto get one. We had seen the ALGBR website and were enamored with a few of the dogs they had listed. They also list "events" on their website at a few Petsmart locations on different weekends of the month. Since we were looking on the 3rd Saturday, we went to the Petsmart on McKellips and Power to hopefully meet some of the dogs. We drove from central Phoenix all the way out to Mesa. . .but apparently they don't bring any of their rescues to these "events". They did have a handy binder containing printouts of all of the listings we had seen online. Ok. . . Since we were there, we filled out an application and gave it to one of the volunteers, along with the $15 app fee, and a copy of our current lease showing that dogs are allowed and we've paid all associated pet fees, and the volunteers assured us we'd be contacted in 24-48 hours. By the way, the adoption application is way more intense than any college admissions application I've ever filled out. "If your new Rescue needed an emergency operation, which might cost you $1,000 to $1,500 would you do it, if your Veterinarian said it was necessary? " Does anyone ever write in "It depends on how much it costs to euthanize. . ."??? Seriously. Anyway, 48 hours later and no call, I decided to give a call to the # listed on the website, and got a messaging system on which I left my information. I got a call back a few hours later, and the nice woman told me that if I gave my application to a volunteer, they were probably just going to mail it in for us, so just fill out another application online and email it to them. Great - the trip out to Mesa was officially a complete and utter waste of time. 24- 48 hours after emailing the electronic application and still no phone call. So I called them up again and the same woman answered, thanked me for the application, told me that they did eventually get the one I filled out by hand, and that someone would be contacting me shortly to set up a home visit. So the wife and I decided instead to go to the AZ Humane Society Campus for Compassion where we got a lovely puppy that we adore, totally hassle free. 2 stars to ALGBR only because they are doing a wonderful and noble charity by rescuing dogs. But it's obvious that these volunteers are not interested in giving up their "adoptable" dogs and would rather be lifetime fosters to their rescues. UPDATE - it's 2.5 years later and ALGBR still hasn't called me about my application ;-) Wish I could get that $15 back.

We were very satisfied and pleased with the professional nature and compassion of the organization. They basically rescue Labrador Retrievers and other large dogs from owners around the state who no longer can keep them (for various reasons). The rescue org. takes the dogs in and puts them in loving foster homes until the dogs can be adopted. The process was amazingly straight forward to adopt a dog. You look at the bios of adoptable dogs on their website, download an application on-line, schedule a home-interview with one of their reps. They then come to the house at your convenience and look at the application...they check to check to make sure you're not a crazy person and will actually care for the dog. :) The next step is finding a dog that you love from the website. They have puppies all the way to older adult dogs. Also, the organization knows many of the dogs histories, since many of them aren't strays. So, you know from their bios what the dogs temperament is right off the bat. When you find a dog you like from the website, the foster parent drives the dog to your house. You then see how well the dog gets along with your other dogs or kids, if you have them and if you want the dog, you fill out a little paperwork, pay the adoption fee and have a wonderful new addition to your home. If you find the dog doesn't fit your needs, more foster dogs will come to your house until you find one that fits. We are so pleased with our dog and can't imagine life without him!!

I had taken my dog to have her skin inflammation issue looked at as she had been licking at it for a while, irritating the area, as well as having consistent itchiness all over. This doctor only provided a mousse to apply to her skin to supposedly help. She didn't advise me to get her any sort of testing done. I realized she may simply be an unprofessional and lazy person, so I took my senior dog to Scottsdale Animal Healthcare for a second opinion and they very confidently told me based on her symptoms that this was a thyroid issue. They ordered her Thyroid levels to be checked and we found out she had hypothyroidism, so we got her on a thyroid supplement and the nasty skin problem she had disappeared for good! I am so glad I went with my gut and didn't trust this doctor. I don't think she is educated enough to be an ethical veterinarian. I highly recommend Scottsdale Animal Healthcare!
