Agreed, this place is ridiculous. Even if everything inside was one pound, as is advertised by the…read moregiant signs, it would still constitute an absolute rip off. This shop will suit you if: (i) You want a 'designer' watch that weighs less than a piece of paper and doesn't tell the time. (ii) You want to see all the worst films ever made in one big pile with no organizing nonsense such as alphabetizing or chronologizing principles. (iii) You are just too calm and want to get stressed out fast. If you don't fit this criteria (you'd be surprised how busy this establishment is) then stay away. Perhaps it would do for a joke present or two, but little else.

This shop annoys me because:…read more 1) It always has 'closing down' signs, but never actually closes 2) It advertises using huge '£1' signs in the window, but hardly anything in there is actually £1 3) It blares horrible loud music out onto Market Street The best deal I spotted in there was a Rubix Cube for £1, but apart from that you can buy awful fluorescent knitwear, dodgy watches, rubbish DVDs, ugly chinaware and snuggle blankets. The signs outside say proclaim that it is going out of business, so hopefully the shop will turn into something useful or cool, but I have a feeling it will remain a terrible cheap shop for years to come. If you want something decent for a quid, then you'd be better off heading to Pound Empire or Quality Save.

Sadly, this branch of Home Bargains, which is located in Bolton town centre, fairly close to the…read moreBus Station and Train Station is one of the poorest branches of the chain I've noticed. The store overall felt highly cluttered, which is often typical of budget stores such as Home Bargains, but it was cluttered to the point, it felt like a challenge just to get to the tills, the overall feel of the store really was awful because of this, while also considering the old-fashioned nature of it, and the store actually had a pretty vile smell to it, which I also didn't like. The product range wasn't great overall, especially when compared to other stores such as the newer and more modern Quality Save store, closer to my home in Middleton which is basically the same store as Home Bargains, but different branding, which is confusing with the main image of the main brand overall, but of course this isn't going to affect the rating of this store. I'm struggling to comment further with slightly unhelpful rude staff, and a store with a terrible overall feel mainly down to the store being old-fashioned and smelly with a subpar product range, I sadly feel this branch deserves a single one-star rating.

In the competitive pound shop market in Bolton (literally, these things are absolutely…read moreeverywhere!), Home Bargains is one of the many cheap discount shops on Bolton's high street. Inside Home Bargains you'll find toiletries, cooking ware, cleaning products, sweets and weirdly loads of cereal. Seriously, Coco Pops for a pound?! That IS a bargain! This is a bit like a mini-supermarket rather than a ramshackle pound shop that sells loads of odd electrical items and cheap tools.

In spite being the sort of guy who has visited every one of the many outdoor chain stores on Deans…read moregate, I still have a lot of time for Campcraft. The premises are large enough to display a good selection of outdoor gear - two good-sized floors - with tents, backpacks and boots being on the upper floor. The staff are really friendly, the young sales assistant who served me especially so, pointing out cool gear at random such as a super-lightweight pack. And I was treated to a demonstration of the latest LED headlight which varies its intensity according to lighting conditions - perhaps a wee bit more James Bond than I need, but still it was fun to see! I had been looking for a pair of adventure sandals to replace my worn-out pair, and had no problems at all with paying £75 for a Merrell pair featuring super-grippy natural rubber soles. Somehow, the 'just enough' stock on display helped me focus on making a buying decision which had eluded me in larger outdoor stores. I also appreciated the sales guy's opinion that I needed the larger size. Having since done a few hikes wearing the sandals I am very happy with the fit. For most Bolton locals, I would say Campcraft offers you all you really need. Just step through the door and tell the staff you need a tent, sleeping bag, campstove, boots, whatever and I am sure they will put you right. Although I don't do any extreme outdoor sports, I'm still a total outdoor gear junkie. But there is definitely a place for Campcraft's expertise alongside the Deansgate outdoor chains and out-of-town tent display warehouse places which I also enjoy. Although some of the Campcraft gear is cutting edge, this is still the kind of place I can imagine getting on first name terms with the staff and rocking up to ask 'What's new?' and be treated to a demo of the latest gizmos. Or for staff to remember what level I am at with outdoor pursuits or previous conversations and come up with suggestions tailored to my needs. Plus, we got talking about food, and it turns out that the owner of this place also owns Thyme deli and cookshop in Horwich which the sales assistant thought I might like. Where can you get that sort of village feeling these days? Exactly - so let's treasure it!

It's a fair sized shop but no where near as big as the big retailers. The staff are very helpful…read morethough and know what they are talking about. I went for some gas for my gas stove. I am still looking for a couple bits and bobs for my homemade bridal bouquet... particularly some…read morepretty buttons/brooches. However, I don't want something brand new, not to mention brooches aren't really popular trend these days, so selection would be slim anyway. I thought I would check out some of the charity shops on my way to Asda for my weekly shop. What I didn't realize is that Granny's Attic is not a charity shop, it is an antique shop. It is small, nothing like those antique emporiums with endless rooms of random items that have probably been there for some time. From the window I spotted some brooches, particularly some blue ones (my something blue is the only piece missing) so I decided to pop in. Just an FYI, it is a small shop and it is full of beautiful, very breakable items. Of course I had my backpack on with my reusable grocery bags so I didn't want to actually move around for fear that I would end up buying a bunch of shattered teacups and plates. Sure some of the items are... well they would probably continue collecting dust, but some of the items, for example some of the tea sets are wonderful and would make for great gifts. I think the prices are reasonable for antiques... you would be able to find some inexpensive items if you are on a tight budget. While I think the cheapest item in the store, I have spotted, is £5.00, I have also seen a tea set for £12.00. Even though I have seen far too many episodes of Flog It, Bargain Hunt, and Antiques Roadshow, I still cannot identify really valuable items from your average old item so I cannot vouch for whether it is a treasure trove, but you never know if you don't stop in. The staff member there was very welcoming and offered to show me the brooches in the window. I didn't buy any on this trip, I am currently waiting on a couple that my mom has posted to me, but the lady did tell me that they do have new items coming in on a regular basis so there is always nice selection to choose from. There is very limited parking one store down from Granny's Attic, but if you have stopped at Asda for a shop, you could pop down as parking is free and right behind (and slightly above) the store.
