Steak Caesar Salad
Marina F.

Definitely not a huge fan of Holy. I have gotten sandwiches here including the shwanitzel which has shwarma, schnitzel, fries, and sauce in it. It tastes like a whole lot of breading and not much meat. It was also greasy. Since I did not like my sandwich last time, I switched to a salad. I got steak Caesar salad. The portion was nice but the steak wasn't great quality and I had higher expectations for it. Also the dressing didn't really have much flavor.

Baguette about it.

My sister-in-law is a doll. A doll who happened to grow up eating Spaghetti with Ketchup. No doubt you're thinking, 'ewww," as I did when I first heard this. But it's a thing, apparently, among some orthodox Jewish families. And right or wrong, this apathetic approach to cooking, if you can even call it that, has always informed my perception of kosher restaurants. Sure, I know they've evolved since I was a kid and I know that especially here in NYC, good kosher restaurants are not the oxymoron I've long thought they were, but still... So it was during a recent lunch here with my strictly observant brother, nephews and aforementioned sister-in-law: Anyway, wound up here after our first pick, Posh Tomato, a few blocks away, was inexplicably closed. The um... ambiance, or really, total lack thereof, didn't do much to boost my confidence. But you know what??? The food turned out to be pretty tasty! Was totally into my classic 'Holy Schnitzel' Sandwich on a Baguette, topped with the works, which included hummus, tahini, Israeli salad and hot sauce. Cajun Fries were good too. Sandwiches here run $10.99 and up. Not exactly inexpensive, but I could only finish half and took the rest home. And really, I have had pricier sandwiches in this town that were far less satisfying. Sad, but true. Enjoyed the Hummus in particular, and everyone else was similarly happy with their food picks, including Wings, Shawarma, Falafel, and various Sandwiches. Service was pleasant too. Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'd definitely return.

Greeting- Yes Vibe- Cool Price- Expensive (kosher) Parking- challenging BR- only one Service- fast Food The holy Toast is a chicken shnitzel with pastrami. The pastrami sucks. $12.99 Lunch special includes fries(suck) those corn starch coated fries i hate! Why! Fresh fries people! And a coke. The shnitzel is tasty thin sliced chicken cutlet with the works. It tastes just like Shnitzl down the block. Same bread and dressings. But this place looks a lot cleaner! WIGB? Maybe

Chicken Shawarma with Hummus and Israeli salad

Came here for dinner takeout. Place is clean, with a bustling of cooks in the back counter. Ordered my sandwiches to go. Wait wasn't too bad, about 15 minutes. Had the Holy Toasty, which is basically a sandwich with the works on toasted hoagie. Tasted okay not too memorable though. Also got the Chicken Shawarma Sandwich; cashier asked if I wanted the Israeli salad as well. I said yeah, thought the salad was on the side but it was actually placed inside the sandwich along with hummus. Overall, it was an okay kosher sandwich shop but kind of pricey for two sandwiches.

Delicious spot for some shawarma sandwiches. The customer service could use some help but overall, pretty good spot for kosher food.

Great option for kosher takeout. The wings, avocado burger, and regular burgers were all pretty tasty, and I'd order from here again.

Overall it gives upscale vibe and is priced accordingly. Mostly big celebrations on weekends with very mixed crowd. Couch as a seating arrangement was not too comfortable, possibly because of half moon shape, heat was in-and- out but because of entry door in first parlor, there's a constant draft, probably feels better in warmer weather. All staff were friendly, polite and joked around at all times making it welcoming. Service was great until 2 big parties showed up and pretty much took over most service in first parlor which led to delays for the rest of us there. With that being said, our waiter remembered I asked for a bday candled dessert as soon as we sat down and it was delivered at the appropriate time. Food was good, loved tartar, black mussels with amazing sauce (wish they gave more bread for it), rack of lamb cooked to perfection (wish it was cut before plating and thickened side sauce), beef stroganoff thinly cut with flavorful mushroom sauce, steak - was delicious and cooked as requested but lacked seasoning on meat but not garnish. Avocado salad and octopus were uneventful. Drinks were good as well as desserts. Overall I'd definitely come back for dishes we loved.

There were some clear great parts of my dining experience and then some less good parts... let me start with the good... The food was delicious and super authentic. I ordered the Tajik Pilaf, which was $14.95 for a huge plate of rice, carrots, and beef, so great value. The rice had some kind of delicious sauce which added a really nice savory flavor and the carrots were cooked well too. The meat was actually my least favorite part of this place, as it was slightly chewy as opposed to tender (but not bad). I also tried the chicken kebab, which I was impressed by - the meat was very juicy, tender, and seasoned nicely. The interior of the restaurant is nicely decorated in a Tajik / central Asian style with a relaxed environment. There were just a couple other groups dining there, so finding a table was not an issue at all. The owner was constantly roaming around the restaurant (in a good, attentive way), frequently checking in on us and being super friendly, helpful, and welcoming. He made us feel at home and gave our experience a home-cooked meal kind of vibe. Now for the not so good part of our experience... the rest of the service... Right off the bat, after we were seated, we just sat there for what felt like a very long time without anyone coming by to check in or even offer water or anything. Finally, the waitress came over, which is when we also found out that somehow they don't offer regular tap water, only bottled water... like how is that even possible? Anyways, we proceeded to order our dishes and then waited for over 30 minutes only to find out at the dishes we ordered (fried lagman) was not available that day! And they only told us this after having already waited half an hour! You would think they would've known this before... so there we were, trying to order again... finally our food came and as mentioned, thankfully, it was actually very tasty. So all in all, while the service definitely could've used some improvement, the food redeemed the experience in a big way and coupled with the unique cuisine and friendliness of the owner, I am giving Karavan Kebab a solid 4 stars. I think risking the service speed to experience this unique and delicious cuisine is well worth it.

The items that have really stood out to me are: -Dry fried noodles -- the flavour of this is amazing. It tastes like a zestier cousin of your typical Cantonese fried noodle dishes. The meat, veggies, and oil all come together to hug the hand-pulled noodles in an addictive way. -Fried Eggplant with Sweet Tomatoes -- I don't know how they do it, but the eggplant stays crispy, even if it's in a takeaway order. This dish is by far their stand-out dish. Everything tastes fresh and light. -The Moroccan Tea -- really special tea that has a ton of fruits infused in it that give it a natural sweetness that you don't feel guilty about. The items that were meh are: -The chicken wontons -- just meh. The meat was a little dry. The "spicy sauce" on top didn't really add much. -Cumin Lamb -- the meat was a bit dryer than expected, and I wanted more of a cumin punch. I've now gotten takeout from here a bunch of times, and had in-house dining once. All experiences have been positive, with a few reservations/notes: - They have a cash and a credit card option for payment, but they don't know how to do math. Every time I've paid with cash, they either take all of it, or they run around the store like a chicken with its head cut off, looking for it. The last instance, they went into the donation bucket to retrieve dollar bills...maybe as a positive, they always round up when giving you change. Very strange. -The Moroccan tea is REALLY expensive; each cup was $15 which is the price of a cocktail. I guess it's worth it for the fresh ingredients, but I saw other tables that had whole pots and it seemed like we were tricked with paying the price of two mini ones. All in all, I'd come here again, but just to stick to my go-to dishes.
