We found that and so much more at Grace Christian Academy. The classical Christian approach utilized at GCA not only challenges our children, but has molded them into so much more than what we bargained for. We've noticed changes in character, maturity, discipline as well as a dramatic change their work ethic as well. The work load at GCA is heavy and extremely challenging, but also well balanced and geared toward equipping a child's mind to becoming not only successful as an adult, but impacting the world through the eyes of God's Word. No school I know of employs such a curriculum quite like GCA. We are very thankful to God to be able to send our children there. Their staff is on par with excellence.

Due to its gargantuan size and old world architecture, Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) is more on the lines of basilica status, which in church terms is as grand as it gets. I have only been here a couple of times, but each experience was a bit like stepping back in time. While many churches in the area tend to slant more modern, OLPH shines with its dated look. The main church is cathedral worthy and the lower church functions quite well as opposed to other basement layouts. Yet there are subtle things, such as the shiny floors and lighting. It's not a bright church in the least, but the interior has the ambiance of a concert hall with a bit of antiquity. It sounds a little crazy, but one just has to see this place at both day and night and not see the same thing. In terms of things I think that could be better, I've seen them go overtime often and I wish they'd update the rows and pews. Knees are sore just typing this. In terms of the mass schedule, it's as versatile as I've seen anywhere. There are Sunday masses in English, Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin), and Vietnamese. They split time between the main church and lower level, which means folks don't have to miss out on anything.

It is unfortunate that I should be the one to write the first review for this church, as I am not,…read morein fact a "believer." In spite of my lack of faith, however, this church has been such a key institution over the course of my life, that I love it and can't imagine my life without it. It's where I went to nursery school and preschool and made my first childhood friends, and it's where I went to my first Greek school class. It's where my brother and many of my cousins were christened, and it's the church that my family visited for many years during the Greek Orthodox Easter Holy Week. Its "Gold Room" is where I remember spending many a New Year's Eve during my childhood, and its Greek festivals during special weekends were where I loved eating souvlakia and loukoumades, shopping at the massive flea market set-up in the parochial school gym, and riding on the Ferris Wheel set up outside with my cousin. With or without a belief in the teachings of the Bible and Jesus, Three Hierarchs Church is an important part of who I am. I could not write a review for Three Hierarchs and fail to mention the indomitable Father Eugene Pappas, the figure who most embodies what Three Hierarchs means for everyone who has ever been there, for better or worse. He is a controversial figure in the community, and maybe that is why he is my lifelong favorite priest, and a figure whom I regard with a mixture of awe and fear. I stand among the few in my own family who view him with admiration, because many are put off by his admittedly caustic brand of humor, and his befuddling combination of sincere compassion for the community mixed with an imperious disdain for what he decries as the failure of his congregation (always changing) to better support the Church and Christianity itself by living as better Christians. I imagine he would regard my own lack of faith with disappointment, but it is what it is; you can't force faith. I think that's why I feel comfortable at Three Hierarchs, and with Father Eugene's sermons; he speaks a language that you can relate to regardless of what you might believe. My connection to this Church is more about the community, and even if I might not know, or even like, everyone who goes to Three Hierarchs, there's a realness and history that connects us all. There's a warmth to that, as soothing as the fragrant incense that the priest burns in the gilded censer that he holds as he chants the hymns of thatday's service.

I recently attended a service; a short sermon left me with the impression that God and the good Fr…read more might not have a very high opinion of us "undeserving" sinners but maybe that's just me...best wishes to the faithful...GOD LOVES YOU.

The year my daughter started there 11 teachers left the school. I believe the school is still trying to acclimate to the new principles methods of teaching. The new methods in which administration use included creating a new category of science called PPEAPS. This category of science was an absolute waste of my child's education. Not only was is it a made up category of science that has no proven method or lesson plan, in which to teach, it is not recognized by the NYC Board of Education. My daughter transferred out of Fontbonne Hall Academy without a science credit and is now a year behind in science (which while at Fontebonne she maintained a 98 grade average). The guidance counselor is also unresponsive. My daughter witnessed an extremely offensive racist remark from one student towards another students nationality and reported to the guidance counselor. I also reported it to the guidance counselor and nothing was done. No follow-up to the report no investigation. Absolutely nothing was done. If nothing else, tolerance should be taught along with academics which this school unfortunately doesn't offer either. I suggest that you really lol into this school before sending your daughter there.
