Sent my son to start private prek3 in Ms. Frisina's class September of 2024. He was enrolled one month. My son would come home crying almost everyday. Ms. Frisina would yell at my son everyday. I don't know how she is qualified to work with kids. There is an app where we can see how our child is doing that day, and Ms. Frisina would never update it to keep us in the loop. Not to mention he was pushed in class one day and I was never notified. We only found out because the parent of the child who pushed my son apologized to my husband during a class presentation we all attended. The last straw was him being sent home with a black eye and blamed it on a tantrum. I called to speak with the coordinator and she had NO CLUE about any of this. Nothing was reported. Why wasn't the nurse called? When we asked to see classroom footage we were laughed off and told "we are unable to show parents the cameras." When I pulled my son out they just sent us on our way like nothing. This was my son's first experience with school and it was horrible. He still talks about "Ms Frisina yelling" If you are looking to send your child there... do yourself a favor and don't. EDITED 4/29 - Since I can't reply directly. Hi! Thanks for responding! Honestly I'm hesitant to write a review because I've loved a school one day and hated it the next. But I'm going to do this because when I was looking for schools, I ALWAYS read reviews. Full transparency, I worry about my child being the only (or one of few) Black student in schools and after touring Gateway I didn't see a ton of diversity. BUT I've truly never been happier with a school. The director (Melanie) continues to address every single question/concern I have. Now the staff is the best part - they update you on every single thing your kid is doing all day. If a diaper is wet - you know, if it's dry - you know, if they don't eat all of their food - you know, what they're learning - you know. Pictures? At least 5 a day! Everyone tells me that my daughter is gifted and I believe it, I also believe that the staff is encouraging and making sure they add more to what she knows everyday. I don't need my daughter to be a genius, I need her to be happy and she is. Everyday we pull up to the school, she is excited to walk in. At pick up, the entire staff is hugging her and telling her how beautiful and smart she is. I could go on, but who's reading this far? My older toddler is going to begin there soon and I hope he's met with just as much kindness, love, patience, and encouragement. Discriminatory. Unresponsive. Unprofessional. Unfortunately there is no option for 0 or negative stars. I was extremely hopeful to send my toddler son to this school, and complete his whole lower, middle and high school education. I have been active in the Gateway Church community. Upon submitting an application I have been treated with complete and utter dismissiveness. Between making multiple phone calls, showing up in person, and sending emails, no one has taken a minute to return any of my forms of contact. I believe that after I submitted my son's application to the 1s program, and the school learning of my family status, they have completely blocked my sons from being able to obtain a fair chance. I even went as far as to send the executive faculty staff emails of my concerns and they do not even have the consideration to respond. This game of trying to reach someone has been going on for months. I even submitted an application for the 2's program because he was about to age out and I still had not received any return phone calls. Be weary if considering this school. The discrimination that they they have shown in a passive aggressive nature makes me question the way in which they are teaching and molding young minds. It's disturbing. read more

Staten Islands best kept secret. If all schools were like Gateway the world would be a batter place. I send both my kids there, one in pre-k and the other in 3rd grade and they love it! Highly recommend this school. read more

This is an Amazing school. A wonderful, supportive & diverse community.

We transferred my niece to Gateway for the Sept school start. It was like night and day compared to the public school that she had been attending! Before, she was coming home with stories of the classes being disrupted by other kids and the teachers being unable to teach; now, she comes home sharing about her caring teachers and classmates. Before, her after-school program was so poorly run, the teacher trying to help them put on a musical gave up in tears; at Gateway, the after-school program prepared her to participate in a beautiful Christmas musical that they performed with such enthusiasm and professionalism, that many in the audience had tears in their eyes for the joy of watching their children! We plan for her to stay there until she graduates and hope that a high school will soon be in place, that she may continue learning and growing in such a safe and loving environment through some of the most formative years of her life. I have found Gateway Academy to be the finest Christian educational institution in our area. Their academic programs along with the teachers and staff have helped our youth mature into intelligent Godly teenagers all within a safe family oriented environment where Jesus is magnified. A five star rating is not enough. I firmly believe it is a privilege to have my grand'daughter enrolled in this school. read more
