Despite knowing our criteria, Tom took us to houses that were well out of walking distance from downtown - those houses happened to be his own listings. Toward the end of our driving tour to houses, Tom drove the wrong way down a one way street (something that would not be an in issue in of itself) and when a man pointed it out to him, Tom got really mad, got out of the car, and threatened the other man. Kimberly Williams with McGrew real estate, she said I'll be glad to show it to you but the landlord requires a 600 credit score and yaddy yaddy yaddy.I said well that's not going to work for us and then I said can I tell you a little bit about us? she said yes so I told her my story and to my amazement she really cared she told me to write my story down and to email it to her and she would go to her client and see if she might make an exception and give our family a much-needed break. The next day she got back with me and told me the client did not want to rent with us I guess she's one of those that it's all about the money and not giving someone another chance I've never had an eviction and I've never owed anyone money on rent I just needed a little help. this is not where I wanted to be at 55. I just want to say this is the first review that I'm going to compliment somebody on and thank them for their help and that will be Kimberly Williams because I was somebody that didn't have a pot to piss in and she still went out of her way to try and help me. now the thing is I'm going to be coming into some money in about 6 months quite a lot of money and I'm going to buy a house and I'm not going to call the Chaney's but I'm going to call Kimberly and she's going to sell me a house because my money is green enough for her, so if you're looking for a house, put your money on her thank you Kimberly!!!

Our experience with Chris Schmid of McGrew Real Estate was at times confusing, exasperating, and…read moremaddening. He was the sellers agent on a house we purchased. From the very beginning of our dealings with him (through our agent) to the closing on our new home, he was difficult to deal with. He lacks professionalism and overall competence. His last act of unprofessionalism was while we were at the title company with our agent signing the closing papers, he went to the house we just purchased and changed the code on the front door and the keys were inside the house. When we got to the house we had just purchased we couldn't get in. Our agent had to contact him for the new code. There are many competent, professional agents at McGrew and they have a great reputation in Lawrence. In my opinion Mr. Schmid needs to find a new career.

I lived in the 2-story townhouse (one bedroom on the second floor above the garage). It is spacious…read moreand has nice finishes, the garage is lovely, and the location is awesome (nice and quiet). One thing about the kitchen I hadn't realized would be an issue is the cabinets are a bit high (I'm 5'6" so I'm not short). The biggest concern I had and what made me decide to leave is the cooling in the apartment is subpar. In the summer months, even if I blast the AC all day, the upstairs bedroom would be stuffy and hot at night and worse during the day (glad I didn't put my office up there). It would be freezing downstairs and then I'd get upstairs and it'd be warm and gross. Probably poor design or my unit was just faulty.
