This company is flat out GREEDY and SICK…read more My mom reached out to ABI because of a flyer she received that advertised "Lowest Price". She is ELDERLY and speaks VERY LIMITED ENGLISH but they sent out two salespeople, Ari and Chris, who SPENT 4 HOURS AT HER HOME and in the end got her to sign a multi-page contract that she DID NOT UNDERSTAND nor could read, all while NEVER OFFERING a family member or translator to be present as they keep trying to claim after the fact, or giving her the option to consider the contract or review it with someone before signing. To this day, she has never been made aware of what the terms of the contract were and cannot read it. My mom was charged nearly $34,000 for roofing on a ~2600 sq ft. roof, quoted another $6000 for the gutter. We had two other roofing companies, including a C-39 roofing specialist look over the contract and the roofing in-person, and both agreed the high end of the job to be $26,000-28,000 INCLUDING the gutters. That's a $10,000 upcharge on the high end of another roofing company. She felt, at some point before the job begun, that she had been TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF, grossly overcharged, and was CHEATED into signing a contract for an unreasonably high price, something she was not comfortable with. She had an acquaintance reach out to the company on her behalf and try to cancel the contract and ABI refused to cancel it, stating it was beyond the 3 day cancellation period. What they didn't mention or honor was a cancellation clause of the contract that allows for cancellations after 3 days with a penalty/charge. Instead, they didn't giving her the option and refused to cancel the job, again taking advantage of my mom for not understanding the terms of the contracts or her right to cancel. They went ahead and sent contractors to do the roofing on her house DESPITE HER DISSATISFACTION with the cost and attempt to cancel and cited the fact that she did not "call the police to trespass them" as an indication that she was fine with the job. No elder immigrant lady with limited english would even consider that, and it's absurd to act like that was a reasonable indication of her wanting the roofing done. My mom contacted their salesperson multiple times through text and call before and during the job to try to ask for a fairer price, and was ignored on EVERY attempt. In the end, my mom felt PRESSURED, POWERLESS, and EXPLOITED. She deeply regrets ever entering into a contract with ABI, who did not give her the dignity of honoring what was clearly listed on the contract as a right for her to cancel and made her feel like she had to go through with the roofing and paying for it. I firsthand experienced the tone and emotionality of their salesperson when they came by to ask my mom to sign off on the completion of the job and found it extremely pushy, whiny, and unprofessional. Then, I got a call from Michael B trying to frame the situation as "buyer's remorse" which was deeply offensive and disrespectful to someone who is clearly expressing they feel cheated and taken advantage of and arguing against every question or clarification I asked for. To top it off, when I tried to end the call, they decided to THREATEN ME LEGALLY, stating my reviews I've posted go "beyond libel and defamation", according to their so called lawyer who they had spoken to already. This, in itself, says everything you need to know about how this company operates. They'll use scare tactics to try to get you to take down a review, rather than putting in any effort to make things right. Rotten company. Rotten ethics. TOTALLY UNCONSCIONABLE. It's disgusting to me that a company could operate this way and act so entitled to taking advantage of an old person all while trying to convince everyone they didn't do anything wrong. It seems like all they care about on here is being right, using dismissive language to paint every bad review to be "misleading", "false", "inaccurate" and deny any possibility of wrongdoing to avoid accountability, all probably so they can keep their dirty money. Michael B: One quick search "In California, elders are defined as persons 60 years and older. Under California law, elder abuse can be both criminal and civil." There's no use focusing on semantics to be right and spending so much time reframing the situation to benefit yourself. In short: they dragged this out for weeks, gave us wrong guidance, backed out after confirming the job, inconvenienced our client, and then tried to pass us off instead of taking responsibility. On the last day, I intended to go through the checklist of work, discuss possible future work, and to ask for assistance in properly measuring 2 doors for replacement. However, the handyman arrived late, and noted that he was in a rush to depart for a medical appointment.

But not all small business owners share the same values, so I have chosen to share our experience with John Cochrane. John completed a remodel for my husband and I two years ago. He came highly recommended by a friend who had hired his company for multiple projects spanning over a decade. His initial quote was above our budget, but I was assured it would be money well spent. Without going into many details, I will say that the project was plagued with problems from the beginning, resulting in what was originally scheduled as an eight week remodel taking nearly six months. One setback resulted from a fairly severe leak, which despite being fixed left us with repairs that are still visible. Despite the extra time and money spent, the results were underwhelming. My husband and I did not skimp on our finishes, but the execution of the work left us ashamed to "show off" our remodel. Honestly, by the end of the project we just wanted our home back and were tired of voicing concerns that only fell on deaf ears. My husband's main observation was that John's team really only consisted of three individuals. Over the six months they became fixtures in our home, we discovered that none of them were licensed. In fact, we were surprised to discover that the same team members responsible for the plumbing, were also responsible for the electric work, tile setting, drywall work, and painting. We would later discover that John, despite the fact that he was rarely present, was the only individual actually licensed to perform the work. Even more alarming, John responded to one of my husband's electric questions by responding "I'm no electrician". This left us wondering who was responsible for the electric work, if the only person licensed to complete it couldn't answer a simple question. These frequent disappointments are not what prompted me to finally write this review. There were two events after the project which inspired these words of warning for anyone considering using John's company in the future. Not long after the work was completed, a door that John's company installed started sticking to the point that we had to force it closed. I left messages on both John's cell phone as well as his office. None of my calls were returned. When I finally got someone on the phone, I was rudely informed that my messages had been received, but John had been "very busy in the field" and unable to return my calls. I called again weeks later, only to be informed that our remodel was out of warranty and we would be charged for any repairs. However this was not the final insult. We have a family friend who will often stay with us between flights out of LAX. One such occasion coincided with our remodel. Two weeks ago over dinner he confided something he overheard. John and his team were unaware we had a houseguest. The morning in question, after my husband and Ieft for work, our friend overheard John and one of his team talking in our driveway. Over the course of the conversation, John referred to me as a "fu*king puta" (whore in Spanish) numerous times. Aware of the issues we were having with the project at that point, our friend chose not to intercede for fear of complicating matters further. Upon hearing this, I immediately called the friend who originally referred John. I anticipated shock, but she merely laughed it off saying "yeah, John has a problem with women". I was beside myself. Not only was I shocked by the dismissive attitude of our friend, but the fact that someone we entrusted with our home would be so unjustifiably disrespectful. My husband and I were always respectful to John and his team, despite our dissatisfaction with the work they performed. Not only did the remodel take three times longer than anticipated, not only did the work fall short of our expectations, but John failed to stand behind his work, all while targeting me for his misogynistic disdain. We eventually hired a handyman to repair the door John's team installed. There have been other minor issues with the remodel, and it's a shame that John would not stand behind his work. The good news is, there are still hard working entrepreneurs out there, and we are happy to support their business. As my Grandfather used to say, If you're satisfied with our service, tell your friends. If you're dissatisfied, tell me. Well John, we tried to tell you, but you wouldn't take our calls, so we chose to tell our friends instead.
