We called on Hollis Home Inspection to review reasons for water damage and mold growth in our kitchen ceiling. Stephen came to inspect our attic space and roof. He diagnosed faulty furnace pipe and venting throughout the home. Through his independent report we were able to negotiate for a replacement for the 7 month old furnace we had installed during last summer. With the new high efficiency furnace we were able to cap off the metal piping completely. With new PVC piping, our furnace now vents directly from the furnace to the side of our house. He found many minor issues and did a very thorough job looking over the house (testing outlets, looking for insects, giving me a head's up on what to keep an eye on, saw some flashing on the roof that needs repair, etc.). The thing I liked about his inspection report (70 pages) was that it will make a great a to-do list once I'm in the house. Clearly, John has extensive knowledge and is fully competent! The report came out shortly after and was also well-written and detailed. John was very good at explaining all his findings and letting us know what was significant and what was not. In early June 2020, I hired John Allison of Hollis Home Inspection, LLC (https://www.hohospec.com/) to complete an inspection of a home I was in the process of purchasing. While not the ideal outcome of an inspection, a large amount mold was discovered, and I was able to bow out of that real estate purchase, thanks to the detailed documentation presented in the John's report. I hired this guy to inspect my home and he didn't show up or call on the scheduled day. Then, he was 2 hours late on the following day. He didn't apologize or even offer an excuse. He acted as if we should be happy he even came at all. I followed him around and tried asking questions but he was kind of rude and obviously didn't want me watching him or talking to him. He was only there for less than an hour and then left. His "report" came a few days later via email and was really lacking specific information about the property issues. It was not very useful to us. I feel like his inspection was a waste of money and I urge others to seek out a more professional home inspector in the area. There are many. Good luck! read more
