I recently had John inspect a property I'm renting that I have an opportunity to buy. Although I felt I knew the property well, John uncovered many issues that were critical in my ongoing discussions and decision making. He was really helpful from the initial phone call, explaining his services and approach also providing an example report for me to look at. On the day, he arrived promptly, was thorough in his investigations, respectful of my home, and then spent another 45 minutes just going through my questions and showing me specific areas of concern, explaining the exact nature of each one and it's severity. Follow-up has been excellent too. I highly recommend John for home inspection needs and would use him again for any future needs without hesitation. read more

I can't say enough good things about Stephen! Their attention to detail, calm professionalism, and deep knowledge of homes made the entire inspection process clear and stress-free. They didn't just check boxes -- they took the time to explain why certain things mattered, what could be monitored over time, and what needed priority attention, always in a way that felt supportive, not alarming. Can not recommend enough! read more

We called on Hollis Home Inspection to review reasons for water damage and mold growth in our kitchen ceiling. Stephen came to inspect our attic space and roof. He diagnosed faulty furnace pipe and venting throughout the home. Through his independent report we were able to negotiate for a replacement for the 7 month old furnace we had installed during last summer. With the new high efficiency furnace we were able to cap off the metal piping completely. With new PVC piping, our furnace now vents directly from the furnace to the side of our house. We nice and toasty this winter to boot. Couldn't recommend Steven and Hollis more. Fast professional results. Great work!! read more

John was an absolute professional from beginning to end and we feel very fortunate to have found him during our home buying journey. Communication was always exceptional, and his inspection was very thorough and uncovered some important issues with the house that might not otherwise have been discovered until too late. Would not hesitate to recommend John to anyone looking for an excellent and reliable home inspector. read more

John came out and inspected a home I was considering for purchase in Milan NY. He found many minor issues and did a very thorough job looking over the house (testing outlets, looking for insects, giving me a head's up on what to keep an eye on, saw some flashing on the roof that needs repair, etc.). The thing I liked about his inspection report (70 pages) was that it will make a great a to-do list once I'm in the house. Clearly, John has extensive knowledge and is fully competent! I highly recommend John! ( I initially started interrupting his inspection with questions and he let me know he likes to do the entire inspection, reserving time to discuss at the end, and that's what we did... it worked out well. So perhaps limit your initial discussion to a greeting and maybe express areas of concern you may have noticed yourself, then let him do his thing. ) read more

Purchased a home in Richmondville, New, York and John came to do the inspection. It was quite an in-depth inspection. After reviewing the multi-page report and numerous pictures, he went over the inspection report item by item to make sure that I had a concrete understanding of what was contained within. I would recommend John Hollis to anyone buying a home. Francine A. read more

We've had the pleasure of working with Hollis Home Inspection twice over the past 7 years in the purchase of our homes. Both John and Stephen are fantastic; they are so thorough and professional. John was a pleasure to work with. His inspection was very thorough, yet he had the patience to explain his findings with all involved. His report was timely and very detailed. It included charts, pictures, areas to further explore and his findings. It was easy to understand which was very helpful to me being a lay person. I would definitely recommend him for your project as I wouldn't hesitate to use his expertise again if need be. Anne read more

Very thorough, professional and experienced home inspection service. The report shows up the same day and was detailed

As a former realtor, I know the difference between a good inspector and an average one. Stephen Stringer was a total pro. Knowledgeable, clear, and courteous, he did an excellent job. He toured us through the house at the end of the inspection and showed me all areas of concern. In addition, he issues a very clear, well formatted report that is super easy to reference. I'll recommend him without question. read more

John Allison is everything you would want from your home inspector. He did an inspection inside and out on a 100-year-old home with sometimes weird DIY renovations accumulated over the past century -- a real challenge. He's thorough, prompt, knowledgeable, analytical, thoughtful, and creative. He'll go anywhere he can get into and find things that the owners didn't even know about. He found it all--hidden bad wiring, bug damage, sketchy foundations, mold in deep dark places, water damage, wood rot and more. What's more, he's there for you afterwards with great follow up, good suggestions on how to address the problems, so generous with his time. One other nice touch, you can tell John is rooting for you. It's nice during the stressful process of buying a home to have an expert on your side. Highly, highly recommend. read more

John went above and beyond. He was able to fit us into his schedule and came out on a Saturday to do the inspection. The inspection was comprehensive, with great attention to detail. The report came out shortly after and was also well-written and detailed. John was very good at explaining all his findings and letting us know what was significant and what was not. He also referred us to a structural engineer to evaluate the structural components that went beyond a regular inspection's scope, which was an excellent recommendation. Ultimately we felt good about the whole experience and, most importantly, confident in the examination and the report. read more

We were very happy with the services of our inspector for a house we are purchasing. Stephen, our inspector, was a pleasure to work with! He did a very thorough inspection, took a ton of pictures which he used to illustrate his report, and wrote a very detailed report which we were able to use in negotiations for the property and to decide on our repair priorities. He was also very patient in answering questions about everything we could think of, from roof to siding to heating and electrical systems. Outstanding!! read more

We have purchased & sold homes before and of course had many inspections. John was very professional, thorough and answered our questions in terms we could understand. He pointed out the good as well as the bad. He didn't rush through the house, he really took his time from the roof to the basement, in and out, he crawled into the smallest spaces in the basement that others may not have gone into. We can't say enough of this level of service from a home inspector. We would use him again & again and highly recommend him. Whether you are a seasoned buyer or first time novice, I would choose Hollis Home Inspection for your piece of mind. read more

John Allison conducted our house inspection with a keen eye that caught every detail, and we were impressed by his incredible depth of knowledge. His photos, descriptions and intelligent analysis of issues with the house gave us an invaluable tool to help us make key decisions; and we gained more than facts - I really felt like he gave us a private seminar in building and renovation, and we came away with an enlightened education we will benefit from for many years. John is also personable and a great communicator, he made what could have been a stressful experience a truly positive and even inspiring one. Definitely the best inspector we have ever had, and will gladly use him again in future. We can't recommend him highly enough! read more

I cannot recommend Stephen enough. He was timely, incredibly thorough, kind, responsive, and provided excellent recommendations. He also acted as an advocate for me as I am a first-time home-buyer and was getting (lightly) bullied by the seller's agent to "hurry up" with the inspection. Stephen paid no mind, and was thorough as can be; constantly assuring me that it was worth taking time to do a thorough inspection. Don't hesitate- book with him immediately! read more

John was easy to reach and very flexible with scheduling since I was coming from D.C. to look at a home. The online invoicing was easy to pay and he thoroughly explained what to expect. On the day of the inspection, he was there early to go over the outside of the home. There was a lot to cover with a three-unit building, but he went over every inch and was happy to explain what he was finding as he went. I was impressed with his thoroughness and professionalism, and I would not hesitate to recommend him. read more

We were referred to John Allison by our neighbors that shared their thorough home inspection with us. We were super impressed how detailed the report was so we used him for our next inspection. There were photos, descriptions and solutions offered to remedy any and every minor problem. The platform he uses for communication and the home inspection report is user friendly, and easy to read. John has an exceptionally keen eye, his attention detail is far superior than any other home inspector we have ever used, this is our 5th time buying a home so we have experienced the difference. We would most certainly recommend Hollis Home Inspection to any and everyone. John Allison's broad knowledge and excellent customer service makes us feel that we can ask him for advice about anything. 5 stars all around! read more

In early June 2020, I hired John Allison of Hollis Home Inspection, LLC (https://www.hohospec.com/) to complete an inspection of a home I was in the process of purchasing. While not the ideal outcome of an inspection, a large amount mold was discovered, and I was able to bow out of that real estate purchase, thanks to the detailed documentation presented in the John's report. On August 11, 2020, as John was unavailable, I hired Stephen Stringer, John Allison's, associate at Hollis Home Inspections, to complete an inspection at different home I had chosen to purchase. Stephen showed informed care and concern with regard to completing a thorough inspection and his report was well documented with photographs, explanations, and recommendations. As we toured the house, he took notice of structural strengths, and also made mention of the occasional recommendation for minor updates, all of which were exactly what I needed to know as a home buyer. Stephen's investment in doing an outstanding inspection was complimented by his patience, as he taught me about the home's features, and answered my many questions. When compared with home inspections I have procured in the past, the two completed by John Allison and Stephen Stringer have outranked all by a huge margin. I am so very pleased by the efforts of both gentlemen and I recommend Hollis Home Inspection without reservation! They really are that good! read more

John Allison at Hollis Home Inspection is as through as they come. John came to look at our new construction home right after our final walkthrough. He spent many hours on the site detailing every item meticulously. The report he gave us mentioned even very minor items. It's clear that John takes a lot of pride in what he does. Even after John sent the report, he still wants to follow up and talk through any questions you have on the report. We will clearly use John for our inspection 11 months into being in the house. Will also highly highly recommended John to anyone looking for a home inspector. - Nitin read more

I hired Hollis Home Inspection to inspect a commercial 3-family, which I also planned to live in. It was a significant investment - large size, 100+ years old, brick - so I needed a company versed in historic features and professional enough to handle the size of the job. I'm happy to say they exceeded my expectations! John Hollis' process helped bring piece of mind during a high stress time for my family and I. He was professional, timely and extremely thorough. The report was chock full of photos and details, which has come in handy in our first months of ownership. Most importantly he brought to light a few majors that were nowhere on my radar. I'll absolutely use the company again. Thank you Hohospec! read more

John did a thorough inspection taking great care. He took many photos and we had a preliminary conversation about his findings. When he returned for the radon device (this takes 2 days) we asked him to look at a couple of items we thought were cause for concern. He did not hesitate! The final report is detailed and has informed us as to the best way to move forward with our purchase. Professional, easy going and yes a pleasure to work with. (agreeing with Carter P.) We will hire him again, without question, and recommend him and his work to anyone looking for Home Inspection services. read more

Hollis Home Inspection was one of three home inspection services provided to us by our realtor. I called all three, and Hollis was one of the most responsive, inclusive and competitively priced. John Allison immediately returned my initial inquiry call, gave me a sense of the services that came with the home inspection, provided an accurate initial quote and promptly responded to my second call to schedule the appointment. John arrived on time, was completely prepared for the inspection. He was discreet and thorough in his analaysis of the home and upon finishing his inspection carefully walked us through the "primary" findings. Hollis Home Inspection's report was delivered promptly and was extremely detailed and user friendly. We are completely satisfied with Hollis Home Inspection and John Allison and would hire them again in a minute. read more

Buying a new home is exciting but not without considerable stress. Several decisions have to be made in quick order if you have located the house you love. One of them is locating a home inspection service. Unless you personally know an inspector you have to rely on whatever information might be available to you and largely on instinct. Hollis Home Inspection reviews were good so we reached out to them via email. John answered me in less than a half hour and asked that I provide the address so he could provide an estimate. I sent that right away and our estimate was returned in less than an hour. He answered all of our questions and concerns so we retained him for the inspection. He scheduled in within a week and at our convenience. When we arrived (right on time) John was already there with his equipment out, ready to go, and had already begun his assessment of the grounds. Within minutes of the start we knew we made a great decision by retaining Hollis Home Inspection. John was willing to answer all of our questions and concerns and he was more thorough than we even hoped. After spending considerable time on his inspection, he gave us a verbal overview of what he found. He promised the written report with a couple of days and sure enough, less than 48 hours later, we had the completed report. The report itself is very impressive, complete with explanatory photographs of any concerns. Fortunately no major concerns were found but John listed all of the minor issues, even if they do not require attention, for our information. Thanks to John we now have full confidence to move forward with the closing and we also possess a detailed roadmap to address the minor issues over time after we move in. I know this review is lengthy but I could easily double it and still not be able to express our gratitude to John for his meticulous work and report. read more
