Amber Peterson is a phenomenal hair stylist - she works wonders with her ability to color, highlight, and transform hair. It truly is a talent. She always gives her honest opinion but always listens to what her customers want. She helps you find the perfect style and/or color to suit you and your appearance. Amber does extraordinary work! As for the Holiday Salon itself, it's convenient location in the heart of Costa Mesa off 17th Street is nice. There's plenty of parking! The salon is very modern and well kept. I've been going to Misha for years and there is no one better! Salon is clean, welcoming and staff is incredibly friendly every time.

The most efficient salon I've ever been to! I was greeted as soon as I entered the salon. I happened to show up early so I said I would walk around a bit and headed back at my appointment time. This was my first time at this salon and I had an appointment with Kelly. She greeted me and walked me to the chair. I was offered something to drink and a hook to hang my jacket and handed a smock. I sat down and we went over my objectives for my hair. All over color, trim, and blow dry. Kelly introduced me to assistant Vivian and told me she would mix my color and Vivian would get me ready. Vivian brushed my hair out, applied cream on my face around my hairline and we had a nice chat. Kelly returned with the color and began with my roots. When my roots were completed, Vivian came back and finished the length of my hair. Once The color was applied. I was taken to the dryers and waited. I was checked on periodically by both Kelly and Vivian. At one point, Kelly came and brought me to the sink to apply more color and then brought back to the hair dryer. Vivian then came and got me to wash the color out of my hair. She also shampooed and conditioned my hair and gave me an awesome scalp massage. I was taken back to the chair and she towel dried my hair. She then brushed my hair out and parted my hair. The way I like it. Kelly came back and then began cutting my hair. Once my hair was cut she began sectioning it off and then blow drying it. Vivian came back and continued to blow dry and when it was completely dry, Kelly did a little touch up with the scissors. My hair looked and felt amazing. The greatest thing was they were both helping other customers and I never felt neglected. I have to say this was the most amazing experience I've had in the salon. I highly recommend the salon and if you're able to make an appointment with Kelly and Vivian. Lucky you! read more

Treat yo self! At Holiday! Warning - parking can be a little crazy on the weekends because Plum is next door and you know how people get with their brunch. I've always managed to find a spot a little deeper in the lot tho. Valet is available on the weekends I believe. This space is uber cute. Love the industrial lighting and the cute hairdryers and brushes in the bathroom. Go see Sarah! She is super sweet/bubbly/cute and definitely knows what she's doing. I went to this place in April because of the high rating it had on here. Well, I completely disagree with the stars this place has. Danielle was the one who did my hair. She was really nice and amiable. I wish I could say the same about her performance. I wanted slight trim to my hair and my layers to be taken up a bit, but I didn't want anything too texturized or choppy. The haircut was mediocre, the good thing is she didn't chop off more than an inch of my hair since I'm growing it out. However, my layers are pretty choppy to the point where when I put my hair in a pony tail a lot of it doesn't stay in. The color is what really made this place lose stars. I asked for a black-blue color. Black in natural light with a blue tint outside in the sun. My hair ended up coming out just black. When I got home I tried looking at it in all different sorts of lighting and I saw no trace of blue. I called up the salon and voiced my dissatisfaction. After all, I did just pay $275 for Danielle's "salon quality" services, when I could have bought box dye for $5 and get a cut at Fantastic Sams and had the same results. So they scheduled me to come back in a couple days later so she could redo the color. I was pleased that they so easily allowed a redo. I went in, got the color put in and guess what... It came out just plain ol' black again. By now I'm very unhappy because I've had to come back here, waste my time and further damage my hair. I asked for something to be done and I spoke with one of the managers or owners, explained to her what I wanted and my displeasure with the outcome. She then told me that they didn't even have a color that would produce the color I wanted! Umm... why wouldn't they have told me that in the first place?! Then she suggested I go to a "whacky crazy salon" more suitable for my taste. Not sure if she was trying to imply something, but I took offense to it and asked for a refund. They gave me back half of my money and I decided not to persist on getting a full refund, but now thinking back I probably should have since I was wearing hats for a month straight after my visit because the cut has made my hair unmanageable. read more

I went & got my hair did with the amazing Arianna! She made my crispy damaged hair come back to life in less than an hour. As a model and actress it's important to keep yourself highly maintained. If you need a great stylist that will give you the proper advice on haircare and makes your hair look beautiful at the same time you can find her at Holiday Salon in Costa Mesa. She's an expert in blondes and redheads by the way c: I'm extremely pleased! It's not a cheap salon. They use good quality products. So don't expect to nickel and dime it here. It'll be well worth in the end. PLUS: She's LGBTQIA friendly! As a trans-woman I find it difficult to find a competent hair stylist who's going to treat you fair. First time doing balayage and it came out PERFECT! I found out about this place because Kassie happened to walk into the store I work at. I was a bit hesitant to get my balayage done at a salon I've never been to, but the result ended better than expected. Kassie is super nice and reassures perfection even if it might not appear so at the moment. She clarified the color with me multiple times to rid of any miscommunication. I can't say enough how much I love Holiday salon and all it's staff. The three boss babes that own this salon are amazing and through the pandemic have been strong and resilient. I recently went in for my cut and color with Laurie. Only 3 stylist with 3 clients, all social distanced, everyone wearing a mask (if you don't have one they give you one) and really well ventilated. Conway is personable and attentive. She makes you feel like an old friend and delivers honest information about the look you want. Every time I have seen her for a cut and color she always asks "tell me what you want your dream hair is and let's get you there." I have a new face. And I didn't have to inject, pull, laser, or tighten anything to get it. All I did was get my eyebrows done by Ally. It's not like I looked like Frida Kahlo or Peter Falk before, but I definitely needed some eyebrow help. Ally took one look at the brow issues going on and whipped those hairs into shape. It's really incredible what a little plucking, waxing, and shaping can do for you. It didn't hurt at all, either. Ally used some sort of pink wax concoction that doesn't pull the skin off and my brows weren't even red afterward. Shocking. Ally also gave me some excellent tips on how to groom the brows myself. I promised her that I would not tweeze them between appointments (which is the equivalent of telling Madonna to stop working out), but, I'll do my best. On the same day, I went back to Hanan for a color and cut. I had moved between my last cut/color with her and, in the meantime, I admittedly tried a few salons in my new neighborhood. All that did was validate for me that I cannot go to anyone else. Hanan is simply the best and worth the extra distance. I walked out of the salon looking better than I had in a long time. Go see these lovely ladies if you need a little hair and brow love. You'll pay a very reasonable price for looking like a million bucks. read more

I very rarely write reviews but my experience at Holiday Salon this afternoon was completely unsatisfactory. I am the first to admit that I am particular about my hair, but that does not excuse my stylist's (Meghan) lack of professionalism. My hair was highlighted and cut. My complaint is about the cut. When Meghan asked if I was unhappy with the cut, I said "yes" and asked her to blend in my bangs with layers. After 5 minutes of struggling with my cut, she said that I was a "frustrating" client and moved on to her next client. To add insult to injury, when I went to pay the bill, I was surprised to learn that Meghan increased her prices from $258 to $315. Meghan never informed me of the price increase. I paid the bill and left the salon. Meghan called after I left the salon, stating that she was upset by our interaction and felt that I should find a new stylist. I explained that I would appreciate her making an effort to correct my haircut. She said that she had tried her best but that I have "difficult hair." I wish she had mentioned this during my two prior visits. For $315, I expect a stylist to behave in a professional manner and make a genuine effort rather than blame my "difficult hair." read more

Misha is still my ultimate go-to for brows, she's the most fabulous ever. However, lately she was out of town (I didn't know she was allowed to do that, what if there's a brow crisis??) and I decided I had heard many good things about Ally as well, so I would just book with her. And guess what. She's ALSO incredibly fabulous! It's really rare to find a salon with two great brow and makeup artists - usually there's a "good one" and an "only if I look like Chewbacca and have a date with Ryan Gosling in an hour" one, but not so at Holiday Salon. Both women are amazing, fantastic, and fabulous, not only at brows, but also in friendliness and professionalism. I always walk out with a smile and feeling good. I also recently wanted to look all spiffy for an event, so Noelle gave me a blowout and Ally did my makeup. First of all, Noelle was fabulous - she even realized that my bangs would behave better if I parted them the other way. A totally ingenious revelation that I feel is going to save my sanity. And of course my hair looked amazing and she dealt with my spazzing (not directed at her) with a smile, totally putting me at ease even though I had never seen her before. Then, as expected, Ally totally rocked my makeup. I needed to look like I had done it myself (HA! if they only knew), and she made me look super gorgeous and dressy without being too...painted. Of course, I could never get cake or liquid eyeliner to look that straight, and I can never figure out where to color the crease, but no one was the wiser. If they had pulled out some of my individual false eyelashes, that would have been a different story. She even challenged me by applying blush heavier than I'm used to - I questioned her, and she said that yes, I'm just being paranoid, and sure enough, when I looked in the mirror in the car (and then at the house...and then at the bar...and at the bar again), I totally dug it. I really hope looking this fabulous for a nice night out isn't addictive...but it very well might be habit-forming to look this good. read more

I told her what I wanted, and she really listened. She managed to add so much needed body & bounce to my hair with her expert styling & cutting. Her coloring is beyond all compare! For the last three years I've been floating around Costa Mesa and Newport Beach salons--always content with my experiences and haircuts, but not really finding a stylist to whom I would want to commit. I most often went to Holiday Salon for my hair-needs because of the salon's groovy location, its sweet staff with their fun hipster-leanings, and because I'm willing to pay $70 for a good, professional trim-and-style. I also felt certain, in my heart of hearts, that someday, somehow, someway I would meet the stylist of my dreams here at this groovy-fun-sweet place. And I did. Her name is Noelle. I have very fine hair prone to oiliness and tangles, and I must have my bangs cut and styled IN A PARTICULAR WAY or else I will be weeping in the car post-cut and the week thereafter. Noelle is a genius with my hair type, understood my desires, and was intuitive to what I might like--she suggested adding invisible layers to add volume and movement but not take away the heavy weight line I like; she also told me about some products that would add shine, detanglement, moisture, etc., without weighing down my fine hair. She was also a wealth of honest information about hair health and knew her chemistry (as in hair-product chemistry .... ). I love talking to hair and makeup professionals about the chemical properties of their products. NERD ALERT. As if a great wash, trim, blow-out, and style wasn't enough, getting to chat with Noelle was really fun. One of the many cool things I learned: she's going to London in ten days! But don't worry, she won't be gone for long. I usually get nervous and awkward around beautiful, tall, blonde women, but Noelle was so chill, didn't make fun of me for using Head and Shoulders, and was very easy to get laughing with. The stories are true, Misha is really incredible with eyebrows, (plus very friendly and nice!). I went in hopeful that she could fix my shape and came out super happy and blown away. The only thing I have a minor complaint with is the price range, I don't feel the two $$ is accurate, it should be $$$ Also there's no big overhead sign, like most tiny shopping centers have a big display on the edge of the street, advertising what businesses are there, so it's a little difficult to find coming from the 55S freeway..if you make a left down E 17th street, it'll be on the right hand side, in a little shopping center right before Tustin. read more

I just moved to Newport/Mesa area about 5 months ago and I love love it here but I couldn't bear to think who will be doing my hair now that gas is over 4 bucks and my hair dresser is in Whittier.. I have never had my eyebrows done before, but with the help of YELP, I found just who I was looking for! Ally was AMAZING! She totally gave me a mini-consultation, and the price was actually not too expensive. She explained every single detail that she did also. From the tweezing to the waxing, she let me know exactly what she was doing. The best part is, she actually LOVES what she does, and she gave me a challenge. 4 weeks growing my eyebrows OUT. Before going to Holiday Salon, I hadn't been to the same salon twice in almost 8 years. I floated from salon to salon based on my most recent groupon purchase. When I met Lindsay, my nomadic ways came to an end. She is A-MA-ZING! In addition to her sparkling personality, she always makes me feel fantastic about my hair. Until my most recent haircut I always decided on long layers for my long hair. Last time I went in I decided that it was time...time to chop it off! When I told Lindsay, she was more excited than I was! I could tell that she was up to the challenge of converting me from long and classic to short and sassy. We decided on a long a-line bob. She wanted to ease me into it, so she made the a-line super subtle and told me to come back if I wanted anything changed. I went home, played with it for a while and decided I wanted something a bit more drastic. She fit me in the very next day to trim the back up a bit more, and she didn't charge me for the change. How awesome is that? Lindsay was sent from hair heaven. I moved to San Diego for school and have been making the trip to Newport every 3 months just to see her. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is the price. It is 100% reasonable (maybe even a great deal) for Newport/Costa Mesa, but my student budget is starting to sway me in the direction of finding a cheaper stylist in San Diego. read more

Misha is THE brow expert in Orange County. Her skills and professionalism are second to none and you will love how your brows frame your face! I also just had my lashes tinted for the first time with her natural vegetable dye for Summer. Mine are naturally a dark blonde and even lighter near the tips, so they now look awesome when I'm makeup-free (which is 80% of the time!!!) A plum district deal led me here for a haircut from Lindsay. I was a bit apprehensive because I had never heard of this place before but yelp had great reviews. I thought it was going to a a fairly small salon but I was quite amazed at the size and the amount of people working there as well as the clientele. Lindsay was extremely nice and offered suggestions as well as listened to how I wanted my haircut. They always say you should never get your hair done from a person who has a bad haircut. But I loved her hair so I was confident she would do a great job. She was awesome and I loved my haircut. She even gave me tips on how to keep my hair bouncier without having too much product in my hair. The total with the coupon and tip was almost 50 but it was well worth it. Troy was on time, gave me a great cut and his assistant gave me a great scalp massage! Holiday salon is all about the A's... Alex for hair and Ally for eyebrows! Alex is super cool, fun to hang out with, has fantastic style, and does a great job on the mane. I have long, thick, dirty blonde hair and he's taken me everywhere from summery beach blonde to dramatic wintery reverse highlights. I've recommended him to several friends and all of them love Alex. Ally is an angel here on earth. She's patient, caring, and does a damn good job on the brows. My skin is uber sensitive so she takes the time to tweeze my eyebrows to perfection. I am not a regular eyebrow groomer, I usually call in and get a last minute appointment because my brows have grown out of control.
