They haven't spent the last year since my original review refurbishing the place. It still squats there on State Street. But you can't beat the Redbox/Carwash comobo for convenience. On a recent late night we arrived home from a long road trip and a day of familial nuptuals and needed to stop off to buy a loaf of bread. Sure as shootin' they we got the last loaf of butter-top what goodness from the shelf. Granted, it was priced (per ounce) the same as raw tungsten ore, but they had it there. Oh, and I can neither confirm nor deny my gas station yelping quest. They are friendly and seem to like that you are there. It's hard to find at other convenience stores. They know my name made sure I got their card so I could start saving immediately and they let you make your own drinks. I'm kind of fussy about that. It's always clean and well stocked. Although I've decided that the McDiet Coke from McDonald's is the best, the Diet Coke at Hart's is close second. I have this very specific blend of my Coke cocktail, and it comes out perfect at this Harts. Have you noticed a lot of gas stations don't have very good syrup to put in their fountain drinks? You squirt in some vanilla syrup, and it's just sticky brown water? Or the cherry syrup is factory rejected cough syrup? Not at Hart's! The cups have cute hearts printed on them, and the lid is red - it's just a little detail but it makes my 52oz vats of carbonated goodness a little happier. The donuts there are also great - double chocolate Dunford Donuts that are so fresh, the icing is still soft and gooey. As I walk up to the register, I catch up on the morning gossip with the sweet and chatty ladies up front. They're so friendly, and I think they've given me a personal compliment every time I come to the register. I think I might be as addicted to that attention as the drink I'm purchasing. My main complaint about Hart's is the location and parking. The gas pumps are on the diagonal, and in the mornings the parking lot is a mad mess of cars and delivery trucks. But I don't love that you have to enter from 700 West--there's no driveway from 7200 S. The snack area and other road essentials is more spacious than your typical gas station, so stretch out and grab your jerky, fill your mug, and look at the priceless tchotchke for sale. Regarding the car wash--I dunno if they give one to everyone, or what. Clearly they're trying to upsell you on a more expensive one, but when I went there today I got a "you've earned a free car wash you can upgrade" just after swiping my card. I opted not to swipe but still got my carwash code on the receipt. So we'll see what happens. I will redeem at the Holiday just a few blocks away at the corner of 7500 S and State Street.
