The rooms are small and very basic, and the one I was given had no AC on a 90-degree day. They advertise valet parking but their lot is TINY and when I arrived at 5 pm, and there were no spaces. The neighborhood feels very sketchy. Elevators are wheezy and they were doing construction/renovation on the bottom three floors. You can do better for what they charge: don't stay here. Realistically, I would give this property a 2.5 star. We stayed here May 10 for one night, as we were in town for a concert at the Filmore. The check-in experience was 5 stars; friendly, courteous, professional. Our room was on the 6th floor and was a very quiet location. We never heard a peep from others. The bed was very comfortable. The room itself was smaller than what I'm used to for an IHG property, but it's one night. The main issue was that the property is older and in need of some TLC. The curtains had holes in them, and the bathroom was very small and outdated. It took quite a while for the water to get warm/hot in the shower, and the water pressure was non-existent. There was zero bathroom counter to put stuff on, we had to put stuff on the shelves instead. I used the provided Hairdryer, but a minute in, the smell set off the smoke alarm. There was no bathroom exhaust. Also, we kept looking for cups and the ice bucket, we found it shortly before checking out, located next to the bed on the bottom shelf of the bedside nightstand. Before checking out, we decided to hit up the included breakfast. Mostly everything was in stock and seemingly fresh. However, I had grabbed a yogurt from the refrigerator and it must have frozen and then thawed at some point, the texture was off, and inedible. They did have a good variety of options, including eggs, bagels, muffins, toast, biscuits, gravy, cereals, some fruit. Some of the furniture was observed with wear and tear, also there was some food abd crumbs on the floor, even though there was an attendant present. For one night this wasn't a bust, but I wouldn't have wanted to stay longer. I hope this property gets some attention. Please read if you're considering staying here. The elevators are slow and you feel lucky to get out of them -- take the stairs. The rooms are just okay. A tad stuffy. And the color scheme is brown on brown on brown. I had some carpet overlapping, some wallpaper overlapping, and a very gross stain on the bathroom door. The AC unit was small but mighty. This was the hotel's best asset. The shower water pressure wasn't enough to fill up an empty Dixie cup in five minutes. The toilet constantly ran. The sink took a long time to drain, which grossed me out. But what absolutely ruined my stay was that the doors and walls are not insulated. Not at all. I could hear conversations in the hallway from my shower. If you stepped out of the elevators/ stairwell, you could hear people in their rooms from more than halfway across the hall. This was insanely awkward. So this situation went from bad to worse when, for two nights in a row beginning at 11 pm, one or two bus loads of 7/8 graders would be dropped off.. and somehow the majority were staying on my floor ... and they would run, scream, argue, and play through the halls and in their rooms until about 4am. I didn't complain because kids are going to act like kids. The hotel is to blame for the poor quality insulation. The hotel is to blame for not setting the expectation of what behavior they require in order to allow for a field trip to book. And of course, it's down to the chaperones. So from 11pm to 4am, they ran laps, played ball, and screamed completely uninhibited by any authority. And it sucked. It was so bad that I was on speaker phone and the person on the other end could hear the chaos. The hotel is a $30-$80 / 40 minute to 60 minute ride to DC proper. It sucks for sightseeing, and it sucked for a work event I was there for. I spent more of my time traveling to and from the hotel than I was able to sightsee. We originally planned to take the metro (can't speak on the quality), but it's down for maintenance, which the hotel staff wasn't aware of... so do your research and don't rely on the front desk for questions. The cost of the Ubers to and from DC proper also would have made up the difference of what we saved staying here. So please take this into account when you're looking into hotels. DC have the most expensive Ubers I've ever seen - including Paris, Los Angeles, New York, and Munich. It's also not a very immediate place to walk around. There's a small Target a few streets away, but the hotel is between a 7/11 and a car wash, so it wasn't great. A few blocks down and you're in some very nice areas, however. The WiFi is terrible, so working there is difficult to do. And the keys / key pad things are awful. One of my keys took eight tries before it would open my door. Consistently. And one key would work. My coworker had to get a new key from the front desk every day.. I think he did this five times. Please, please take into account the logistics of visiting DC before booking something so far outside downtown. With the additional cost of Ubers, you will end up spending more money and you'll lose tons of sleep with the noise of this place. read more

Having stayed at about 20 of them across the country over the past year, I am always impressed by how consistently good they all are in terms of cleanliness, comfort and providing a restful sleep. Terrible checkin experience and unsafe, dirty location. We booked a suite late at night due to a family's hospital stay. Front desk was unfriendly and incompetent. We booked a suite and received a standard room. When we went to fix it, he booked us in another regular room. At this point, we cancelled the room and were told we would receive a complete refund. We are currently fighting a $271 charge and every time we call we are told that their manager isn't there and they can't remove it without him. We booked a suite and received excellent service at Hotel Silver spring right down the road for $160 and they gave us the quietest room available and treated us with compassion. Parking and hotel was in a much safer and superior location to metro and restaurants. Do yourself a favor and skip this hotel. For the record, I am a loyal IHG Holiday Inn express supporter and am familiar with the area. read more

I wanted to give a hice shout out to this hotel that has been putting up with me and my family for the past four weeks. We recently returned to the U.S. after a long 3 year government stint in Mexico. This area happens to be where we will be living soon, and we're actually closing on our new house on Monday. This hotel was very convenient for everything that we had to do in the area. The staff here were very gracious when it came to any request that we had really. They were able to modify their cleaning schedule to accommodate our needs, and even were awesome enough to call us when our car was waiting in front of the lobby. The room was awesome and we had a nice view of downtown Silver Spring. The beds were nice and recently updated with clean pillow cases and sheets every day. The staff here did a lot for us and they did go a o e and beyond in my opinion. read more

This hotel is an absolute DUMP. There is barely any parking (even though guests are charged $20 a day extra), the air conditioning functioned at BEST at 50%, there is a distinct odor, and I could go on. We had to get brand new room keys at the front desk at least 3 different times because both of ours just stopped working. The elevators are not only tiny, but their delayed opening made every ride a fun guessing game about whether or not you'd be stuck and suffocate to death. Best of all, this hotel clearly provides housing through Social Services, which occupies at least half of the rooms. read more

Do not stay at this hotel if you can help it. It's super raggedy. The carpet in the rooms need changing and the elevator floors are gummy. This morning I woke up and the TV wasn't receiving a signal. It was working fine last night. Maintenance did the best to get it going. This is the only hotel I've ever stayed in where they blocked the hdmi port so you can't use your firestick. Would give 2 1/2 stars. My niece is an IGH member and reserved our rooms from June 25-27. We were there attending a funeral. Prior to arrival I called to see if we could get accommodations because I had a disabled person with me. Rachel, who was working the front desk, was clearly agitated when I began asking questions so I just left it alone and asked if we could just remain close to the elevator. Our check in was at 3pm, we arrived at approximately 5pm to get to our room and housekeeping was still cleaning our rooms. Upon removing our luggage from the car my one of my nieces' shoes got caught on a rod sticking out of a parking curb causing her to fall. My sister reported to Dewit at the front desk and he showed no compassion, upon him coming outside to see where she fell he just stated you have to be careful and if you're hurt you can talk to management tomorrow. He did not follow hotel policy and report incident to management or fill out an incident report. Between Rachel and Dewit I can't say who was more unprofessional. Very poor customer service. When I asked Dewit for more towels Sunday evening I was told it was very busy. I would have to wait till morning. My niece's toilet was backed up and she was told she would have to wait until maintenance came in the next morning. Parking is an additional $20 a day and is first come first serve. $15 a day to park in the garage next door. My room was overall clean, my niece's room had stains on the carpet. A lot of homeless people nearby. The manager William and staff that were there on Monday June 26 were very pleasant. read more

I just had a terrific stay! Close to DC, close to public transportation, great neighborhood, employees friendly and efficient but the breakfast buffet was superb! Breakfast alone was worth the stay! Great deal. The bed was so comfortable, I did not want to get up. Lol. This will from now on be my go to place whenever I visit DC. To the owner: give those employees a raise! While it's hard for me to give any hotel a five star rating, this holiday inn express location trounced the local Sheraton establishment by a solid star, delivering way more in value than its competitions fluff. While in silver springs I stayed at this location for a week while in town for a volunteer service project. While the elevator is definitely the slowest one in a hotel that I have ever been to, the efficiency and included continental breakfast trumped the local Sheraton that I stayed at for one night later on in the week. This is a seemingly small holiday inn express close-ish to the metro rail and on the main drag of Georgia ave that leads right into downtown silver springs. Compared to the Sheraton, this place had way less apparent water damage (something that the "higher class" Sheraton thought it could paint over) and also way less staff to deliver a similar enjoyable result. The big difference for me is that the continental breakfast that cost 15$ a day at the opposing Sheraton was included at the holiday inn express. Something that price minded folks appreciate. A solid stay. This place gets 4/5 stars because: 1: bathrooms were clean and well maintained daily, no signs of water damage, and water pressure was on point. 2:the continental breakfast, which was more than enough to get going for the day had eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, cereal, and coffee and tea options. Continental breakfast was way more here than just a bagel and cream cheese and was included in the stay price! 3: holiday inn express accomplished way more with just two or three staff members manning the first floor than Sheraton did with like 20. 4: the rooms were updated, did not smell, have bed bugs, or generally any icky natured thing about them. Clean and comfortable. 0: when I stay in a truly five star hotel, I'll let you know, but this is still not it. read more

This place was a severe disappointment. I had reservations for about 10 days prior to my arrival. When I arrived, I found cones blocking the parking lot and a sign that said the lot was full. It's not a public lot. It's hotel parking only by hotel permit. I entered and was in line behind some other patrons. One by one, without any empathy or hint of concern, the man at the front desk told customers their reservations were cancelled. No one has been notified of a cancelation, according to the chatter, and the front desk attendant simply said they were overbooked and couldn't help them. He then said there were plenty of other hotels in the area and laighed off peoples protests. He also told everyone, this has happened a lot today but the manager wasnt going to talk to them, so don't ask. When my turn came at the counter, the attendant asked for my ID. I provided it and he stated I did not have a reservation. I provided my confirmation number and he stated he found it. Then he told me it was cancelled and flicked my ID back toward me. He then looked past me to the next patron in line. It took me hours to find other accommodations as it turns out there was a large event in town. I cannot comment on the hotel because I never made it past the lobby. I will never consider this property for a future stay and I strongly recommend you avoid it . read more

Stayed 1 night for a business trip. Hotel staff were super friendly and quick to check me in hotel lobby looks recently remodeled, clean and well maintained. I stayed on the 5th floor and the room was quite spacious with a microwave and fridge. Beds were super comfy. Hotel had free breakfast with hot and cold foods nice selection, except seasonal fruit would be a nice option for health conscious people. No visible signs of roaches or bedbugs and I always look upon arriving. Parking is $10 and they offer free shuttle to silver spring metro. Only issue is the walls seemed paper thin as I could hear the people Above me whenever they walked around. Also heard the trash trucks at 6-6:30 am. Arrived at 6pm to check-in to a 2 queen bed room we had made reservations for a month before. We were informed they were overbooked and we had been upgraded to a room with a king bed and pull out sofa bed. Went to the room and looked everywhere for this couch. Went back down to the front desk and told them there was no couch. They asked "are you sure?". Lol. Proceeded to tell us there was nothing they could do. So 4 of us would need to share a king bed or leave. We explained we couldn't even rebook at another Holiday because we used IHG points and they wouldn't be refunded right away. The person then said "what's IHG?". We said "you're parent company ". Again. Lol. Then the 2 workers started quietly talking that they would need to call and cancel all other the bookings they moved from 2 queen beds to the king and "non-existent sofa bed". This Holiday Inn Express drastically exceeded our expectations. My wife and I are staying in a bunch of different cities for a week long trip to celebrate our anniversary. In Montreal and NYC we stayed in hotels that cost many times per night what this Holiday Inn Express does, but this is the one that treated us the best, by far. The ladies at the front desk were very warm, friendly, and efficient. The cleaning crew is so motivated that I frequently noticed them jogging up and down the stairs as they did their work. You can tell from the staff that this hotel is managed very well, and the whole team is proud of their work. The location is wonderful, the room is comfortable, and the staff is incredible. They went above and beyond during our stay in too many ways for me to recount here. I'm definitely going to return here again because of the wonderful way that they treated us. read more

Holiday Inn needs to get their act together on a macro level. Their organization screams poor leadership. Here is why: First I called (for reservations) and spoke to a very friendly customer services rep on the phone, we discussed the government rate. Booking on the phone with the Holiday Inn Express, Silver Spring, D.C. this rep assured and re-assured me they had the "Government Rate" available for both nights of my stay, 21 and 22 April. Holiday Inn's government rate (I have since learned) worked on a sliding scale of 10 percent off, rather than the government's official/ true rate of $XXX.XX (figures omitted) per night flat rate. Holiday Inn neglected to mention this very important fact until after they billed the room. Now I have to write a memo to the government to make sure the government pays. HOLIDAY INN OUGHT TO BE THE ONE WRITING THE MEMO. Bottom line, Holiday Inn is taking my time and energy by its lack of professionalism and forthrightness. AN IMPORTANT DETAIL LIKE THIS SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN OVERLOOKED AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPRESENTED RIGHTLY AND SMARTLY FROM THE WORD GO. Additionally, over the phone, the rep (a very nice young lady) assured me that since I was on the government rate on official business that I would not be charged for parking. Parking is 10 bucks a day. When I arrived at the hotel, this became an issue and the senior manager had to be called in to make this "huge" decision over 2 measly days and 20 bucks. I told him I did NOT have time to argue (I didn't) to please make his decision, that I was verbally committed to free parking via Holiday Inn reps and that it is a contract. He did the right thing and verbally waived the fee after MUCH consideration (which was ridiculous), and then Holiday Inn charged me for parking at the end of my stay. I reminded them of our contract and they eventually waived the fee. (AGAIN, THIS IS NOT SOMETHING I SHOULD HAVE HAD TO DO). Also, the hotel is obviously in need of upgrades. There is an ambiance of cheapness to the hotel. For example: One driver of their courtesy shuttle didn't speak a lick of English and had no clue as to where the Silver Spring D.C. Metro Subway Station was; STUNNING. Also, the hallways were hot and the a/c's were turned OFF; and the a/c's were also obviously dilapidated. Also, in my first room (they moved me), the microwave did not work. These are a few examples that tell me the senior leader is cheap and not too bright. He or she is NOT SPENDING MONEY ON THE HOTEL and it shows. The hotel is to the point (I believe) whereby if they do not spend some money for upgrades, things will start to deteriorate rapidly. I honestly wish I could HONESTLY give the hotel a better rating but I cannot. Holiday Inn's worker bees are in general VERY NICE, VERY ACCOMMODATING and VERY HARD WORKING. Raissa at the hotel was ABSOLUTELY SUPERB as was her immediate supervisor/ night shift manager. BOTH LADIES BENT OVER BACKWARDS TO MAKE MY STAY PLEASANT and BOTH DESERVE A SCORE OF A TEN/ OUTSTANDING. BOTH DESERVE TO BE PROMOTED, and groomed for more. But the people over them are not helping their cause. They are not even helping their own cause, which is to run a successful business. Holiday Inn Corporate needs to re-look its priorities. Unless I miss my guess, the hotel is not American owned, and whoever does own the property is all about money. I know this is a hard review, but I have seen this kind of thing one too many times. I debated writing this review because of how hard the hotel staff seems to be working to make this a great hotel. But in the end I think it's important for both future customers and the hotel staff to know what improvements need to be made. I checked-in very early; close to noon. After a few hiccups and a short wait, I was given my room keys. The room was very clean, no complaints there. It was a bit small however. The room was hot, and the air conditioner is old and loud. There isn't a thermostat and everything is controlled on the A/C unit itself. Not a big deal, just something to point out. The hallways and elevators are also very hot. Parking is $10. Breakfast is free. The hotel is in a very urban area, a little bit shady, probably not somewhere I'd be walking around late at night. There seems to be some confusion at this hotel in terms of IHG elite tiers, and recognition isn't great. Most people probably wouldn't notice this, but given how much I travel I notice the difference. All in all this is a decent hotel and the staff and GM seem to be working very diligently to ensure a great guest experience. But there was just something off-putting about the hotel that I can't put my finger on. I would probably consider other hotels if I'm back in the area. read more

I love the staff at this hotel. They are so friendly and always make sure my family and I know what to do while we are in town. My kids love the breakfast and the lady that helps them. I normally take the shuttle and hop on the Metro and am in Downtown DC in 20 min. They seem to have remodeled the whole place. They still have some Comfort Inn stuff up but they also have a sign that says Holiday Inn Express coming soon in December. Next time I go I am going to take some pics of the new spot. read more

As i walked in this hotel,I went straight to the lobby area to charge up my dead phone from my laptop and in such a mean and aggressive demeanor a front desk lady by the name Lisa Clayton came up to me and asked what I am doing ?! I tell her I'm charging my phone and asked her if it would be a problem ?! she then proceeds to tell me I can't sit and that i needed to leave the hotel .I was shocked!!I came in there not to waste my time ,her time or do whatever she thought i was gonna do but to get a room for a family member .I just wanted to call my aunt I arrived early and and that I would be waiting for her in the lobby,that's all. If I could give this hotel zero stars I would. TERRIBLE customer experience, don't waste your time going to this hotel. In a very inconvenient location too. After waiting a good 10 minutes for them to even acknowledge me, even though I was standing right in front of their faces. I called this hotel last week, asked the lady who answered the phone how old you had to be to stay here. She told me 18, upon arrival I was denied to check in because "I wasn't 21." But last week you told me 18, correct? The man working the front desk then proceed to become critical when I corrected him about what one of his coworkers had informed me. "Well who told you that, that's not our policy I don't know where you got this information." After we shared a few words about getting my refund, because I wasn't going to pay $300 for a hotel I'm not allowed to say at. Who would? I'm not sure why this would be less than 5 stars unless your expectations are that you're staying in DuPont circle or somewhere close. Then again that would be double the price at least. It's small, no frills but clean and friendly. Close to metro. It's not DC so know that. I actually live in DC and am staying here as I finish selling my house and can tell you you can do way worse for the price. I had a bad experience at this hotel. I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in June and 1 night in July. On both days that I left the hotel with my car, I had nails in my rear tires. Luckily, they were able to be patched (after much stress in finding a place to make the repair). It cost me $40.00 the first time, and $25.00 the last time. The hotel manager said she couldn't do anything to accommodate me with regard to the repair costs. I contacted the parent company, IHG, and IHG said each hotel is independently owned and operated and disclaimed any responsibility. I will never go to another Holiday Inn again since no one stands behind their brand. read more

Good evening, I want to file a formal complaint about the hotel I stayed in last night. Not only did the security guard come to my room and woke me up out of my sleep at 5:30 this morning accusing me of smoking but one of your hotel staff stole my Fitbit. I left out of my room at 7:45 because I was just beyond upset about the security guard ruining my sleep. Then when I got home I notice my Fitbit was gone. I called the hotel at 7:48 and let them know I left my Fitbit in the room on the counter in the bathroom. Now with Fitbit it has Bluetooth capabilities. I went back to your hotel once the front desk receptionist never called me back. Mind you I've stayed in this hotel several times this year and every time I stay I leave something behind. Wireless head phones and a bag filled with designer shoes. Both items returned. I get to the hotel go back to the room and my Fitbit does not connect with my phone. Says "not in range". I give them the benefit of the doubt and ask to check the trash because I know it's a plain black band and can be mistaken as nothing. I spoke with your hotel maid that told me she was going to check the room after the front desk staff asked her to but that the maintenance man told her don't worry about it I'll check it for you. He said he didn't find anything. I vividly remember leaving my Fitbit on the counter in the bathroom because it gotten slightly wet. I left it there to dry. I went threw the trash with my bare hands and found the trash from my room and every piece of trash was in that bag but no Fitbit. I'm very disappointed with your hotel staff stealing my item. I know you guys say you don't hold any responsibility for items left behind, but I just thought you should know you have a thief on your hands. I will not being using your hotel services from here on out because I don't deal with inconsideration, lies, and disrespect. I use to work in the hotel industry. The maintenance men never check rooms. That's the maids responsibility. If the front desk manager asked her to check why didn't she go immediately after being asked? Why was a maintenance man even in the building early Saturday morning to check a room for a lost item. Whoever entered that room is the one with my Fitbit. They left the room with my Fitbit because there is no reason if it wasn't stolen that it wouldn't connect to my phone. If it gotten thrown away by accident my phone would've connected when I was in the basement near the trash bags. Not to mention again I went threw the trash. Transferred it from on bag to another with my bare hands. I will be writing a review on Yelp and any other source to inform people to beware of your hotel. If my Fitbit was stolen I can only imagine how many other electronics are left behind and people call back for and are told no we didn't find it. I'm very disappointed and discouraged from staying in any holiday inns from here on out. I can't believe that this incident has occurred. I highly suggest you get different policies about checking rooms. I was gone literally three mins and someone entered my room and stole my Fitbit. $160 down the drain. I've spent way more money than that with your establishment and planned on spending more but after this I will never set foot in one of your hotels. Oh and for the record the entire 2nd floor reeked of smoke when I checked in so for myself to be the only harassed at 5:30am by security is ridiculous.
