Please read if you're considering staying here. The elevators are slow and you feel lucky to get out of them -- take the stairs. The rooms are just okay. A tad stuffy. And the color scheme is brown on brown on brown. I had some carpet overlapping, some wallpaper overlapping, and a very gross stain on the bathroom door. The AC unit was small but mighty. This was the hotel's best asset. The shower water pressure wasn't enough to fill up an empty Dixie cup in five minutes. The toilet constantly ran. The sink took a long time to drain, which grossed me out. But what absolutely ruined my stay was that the doors and walls are not insulated. Not at all. I could hear conversations in the hallway from my shower. If you stepped out of the elevators/ stairwell, you could hear people in their rooms from more than halfway across the hall. This was insanely awkward. So this situation went from bad to worse when, for two nights in a row beginning at 11 pm, one or two bus loads of 7/8 graders would be dropped off.. and somehow the majority were staying on my floor ... and they would run, scream, argue, and play through the halls and in their rooms until about 4am. I didn't complain because kids are going to act like kids. The hotel is to blame for the poor quality insulation. The hotel is to blame for not setting the expectation of what behavior they require in order to allow for a field trip to book. And of course, it's down to the chaperones. So from 11pm to 4am, they ran laps, played ball, and screamed completely uninhibited by any authority. And it sucked. It was so bad that I was on speaker phone and the person on the other end could hear the chaos. The hotel is a $30-$80 / 40 minute to 60 minute ride to DC proper. It sucks for sightseeing, and it sucked for a work event I was there for. I spent more of my time traveling to and from the hotel than I was able to sightsee. We originally planned to take the metro (can't speak on the quality), but it's down for maintenance, which the hotel staff wasn't aware of... so do your research and don't rely on the front desk for questions. The cost of the Ubers to and from DC proper also would have made up the difference of what we saved staying here. So please take this into account when you're looking into hotels. DC have the most expensive Ubers I've ever seen - including Paris, Los Angeles, New York, and Munich. It's also not a very immediate place to walk around. There's a small Target a few streets away, but the hotel is between a 7/11 and a car wash, so it wasn't great. A few blocks down and you're in some very nice areas, however. The WiFi is terrible, so working there is difficult to do. And the keys / key pad things are awful. One of my keys took eight tries before it would open my door. Consistently. And one key would work. My coworker had to get a new key from the front desk every day.. I think he did this five times. Please, please take into account the logistics of visiting DC before booking something so far outside downtown. With the additional cost of Ubers, you will end up spending more money and you'll lose tons of sleep with the noise of this place.

8'2022 Although I'm late as heck w review, I remember this experience like it was yesterday. Unlimited street parking, friendly desk staff (Marcus), cozy breakfast area, clean guest rooms, free breakfast. Great location to walk to restaurants and stores. Cool night life. The building (hotel) itself is a little old and would greatly benefit from a renovation project. Other than that, it was great !!

Always a very comfortable bed at HIE! And amazing pillows!

I am a loyal Holiday Inn Express guest. Having stayed at about 20 of them across the country over the past year, I am always impressed by how consistently good they all are in terms of cleanliness, comfort and providing a restful sleep. Breakfast is always great and this location has an excellent staff, which is are very attentive. For this price point, you get a lot of bang for your buck! This HIE is located on Georgia Avenue in Downtown Silver Spring--walking distance to all the activities one might hope to attend such as concerts at the Fillmore or the Silver Spring Blues & Jazz Festivals!

Would give 2 1/2 stars. My niece is an IGH member and reserved our rooms from June 25-27. We were there attending a funeral. Prior to arrival I called to see if we could get accommodations because I had a disabled person with me. Rachel, who was working the front desk, was clearly agitated when I began asking questions so I just left it alone and asked if we could just remain close to the elevator. Our check in was at 3pm, we arrived at approximately 5pm to get to our room and housekeeping was still cleaning our rooms. Upon removing our luggage from the car my one of my nieces' shoes got caught on a rod sticking out of a parking curb causing her to fall. My sister reported to Dewit at the front desk and he showed no compassion, upon him coming outside to see where she fell he just stated you have to be careful and if you're hurt you can talk to management tomorrow. He did not follow hotel policy and report incident to management or fill out an incident report. Between Rachel and Dewit I can't say who was more unprofessional. Very poor customer service. When I asked Dewit for more towels Sunday evening I was told it was very busy. I would have to wait till morning. My niece's toilet was backed up and she was told she would have to wait until maintenance came in the next morning. Parking is an additional $20 a day and is first come first serve. $15 a day to park in the garage next door. My room was overall clean, my niece's room had stains on the carpet. A lot of homeless people nearby. The manager William and staff that were there on Monday June 26 were very pleasant.

    King suite room.

And we never really heard other guests (although, I suppose it's possible the rooms on either side of us were not in use). We both slept well (as well as we could given the time difference) and I was happy to note that the window shade did a decent job of blocking out the light. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. Having the kitchenette was a nice feature to have. My main points for not giving a full 5 stars are: the bathroom door was hard to close and open fully; and the breakfast felt a little lack luster to me, but at least it meant I didn't have to go far to get a bagel.

The pros: Easy access from 495 and New Hampshire Ave (MD…read more650). Digital key access was available. Breakfast had some nice options for build it yourself waffles or breakfast sandwiches with sausages and egg patties, plus hard boiled eggs. Pool, gym, laundry and conference room are available. Rooms have a nice kitchenette with microwave, full sink, dishwasher, plates, cups, bowls, and utensils, plus a sponge and dishwashing liquid. Plenty of room to spread out. There's a nearby Safeway if you need groceries. Parking was easy. The cons: The bed was uncomfortable for my wife, she kept tossing and turning. The flat sheet was a weird sheet/thin comforter combo which wasn't tucked in properly and was uncomfortable after a few hours. The room thermostat did not work as programmed. We set it for 66 to sleep but when we woke up groggy at 3, it had only gone down to 71. We turned it off and on, plus used the fan feature, no difference. The room vent is located by the kitchen, not the bed, so keep that in mind. The bathroom door slides, is heavy and does not have a true handle as it can retract fully in the wall. Based on that lack of handle, it was occasionally difficult to close and open. Due to the time, we did not want to try to switch rooms as we had to leave for a family obligation in a few hours in the morning. To the hotel's credit, they reached out immediately after I did an internal survey. They said to not hesitate to contact the front desk as it's staffed 24 hours. I appreciate them hearing my concerns.

However, it worked for what we needed and I *almost* went full 4 stars to balance out the hate based on our mostly positive experience. So, traveling with my brother who booked this hotel through Airbnb. He thought he was booking a private condo or apartment space only to find out post-booking it was a hotel. We arrive and...it's not bad. I'm scanning these reviews while he's checking us in as we realize where we're staying and I'm nervous. But, the lobby is clean and modern, the staff is friendly, the parking is good (though pricey, but this is suburban DC). It is noticeably muggy in the elevator and hallways and since so many reviews describe the rooms as being hot I'm worried. But in the room, I crank the AC and it quickly cools things off. Our stay in the room for 3 days is consistently cool. In room fridge works properly. Wifi works. Water pressure is good, though it takes a moment for the water to get hot. If you plan on eating on site it's too pricey to be worth it, especially since you're in walking distance of almost anything you'd want to eat. We were here to see several shows at the Fillmore and it's steps from the hotel. This worked out great. No uber, no parking costs. I'd stay here again if seeing shows at the Fillmore. Price is solid/average. Location is fantastic. The hotel smells musty, old, faint cigarette odor. Rooms were fine, beds were comfortable and had great bedding, AC worked. It was quiet at night. It felt safe throughout. A solid 3 hotel that could use some upgrades.

My husband and I reserved a room for a week in May 2026 to visit our daughter in Washington DC. We reserved a non-smoking room with a King bed. Here was our experience: 1. Check-in time was 3 pm. I arrived at 2:50 to see both a "Travelodge" and a "Days Inn" sign on the hotel, so there was some confusion as to whether or not we were in the right place. I was told I needed to come back in 10 minutes to check-in. So I sat in my car until 3 pm, but watched as the manager checked in another family and took them to their rooms while I waited. 2. Once I checked in, I was told that the room with the King bed was not available but they had a room with two doubles. I said that was fine as long as the cost was equal or less than the cost of a King room. The woman checking me in said that the cost was actually *higher* but that they would reduce the price just for us. FYI, I know from when I made reservations that the cost was the same. I don't like being lied to. 3. The check-in procedure took 10 minutes because the woman checking me in continued to have a private conversation (in another language) with someone else in the office while completing the process. I stood there and waited for them to end their conversation before she helped me. 4. First impressions of the room: Sheets and blankets on the bed but no bed cover. No pictures on the walls. They were blank. The floor was linoleum and sticky with stains. No rug. 5. There was no fridge. There was a closet with no doors. Felt a bit like a prison cell. 6. The TV was not connected to cable. It produced nothing but a fuzzy image. 7. The bathroom door didn't close and certainly didn't lock. 8. The tub was clogged. 9. When you turned on the shower head, water sprayed out from the back of the tub faucet, likely into the wall and beneath the tub (more on this below). 10. Towels were tiny, max of 4x2 feet in dimension. Not designed for adults. 11. Minimal lighting. Very dark room. 12. On our third night, I stepped out of the bathroom after taking a shower and my husband said that water had flooded the room from the bathroom. There was a puddle in the corner by the bathroom, seeping up from under the linoleum tiles. 13. The next morning, we went to the front desk to be given a new, non-flooded room. The clerk said that he would "see if anything was available". I explained that he HAD to change our room because he couldn't leave us in a flooded room. He said to return later to get new keys. We came back that evening and we were given a new room. 14. The new room didn't flood and the bathroom door closed, but the lights in between the two beds didn't work. 15. There were cockroaches in the room. We had to store our suitcases up high in the closet and on the single chair in the room to avoid having them crawl into our belongings. 16. Aside from this, the hotel was occupied by some people who seemed to have mental health issues. They yelled and talked loudly. The front office had several unhomed individuals sitting there every time I went in. We did NOT feel safe there. FYI, it was a busy weekend in DC as there were many college graduation ceremonies taking place. Moving to another hotel was not an option. Do not stay here. It is horrific, unclean and unsafe.
