I stayed here for 3 nights (checked in Sunday, departed Wednesday) and found it overall a decent place to stay while in town for work meetings. I found the staff especially very friendly and quick to help.
Food wise, I really was not impressed at all (hence the 3 stars). My first night I got fish n chips and the chips had a taste of being almost raw. The minty peas tasted of too much mint and the fish was okay - nothing to write home about. My only highlight of that meal was dessert - I got the Sticky Toffee pudding and this was pretty decent, even if the cake did have some dry bits and wasn't as moist as it could be.
Then the next morning when I went to the breakfast buffet, again was impressed by the attentive service of the staff. But the food ended up being a mixed bag. I ended up being unable to finish my Cumberland sausages - they just didn't taste of the highest quality. Thank god there was an option to ask chef to make your own omelette, cause that saved me! The fruit was also decent, as was the salmon and cold cuts.
My other big grip for this hotel is that the quality of toilet paper used is really pathetic - the toilets near the bar area had a better quality than those in the rooms.
Location wise, it is not that bad - it was a 15 minute taxi ride from the railway station, and if you are done with meetings early, there is a cinema located 5-7 minutes walk, so that could be one option to while away the evening.
However, not sure if would come back here, despite how good the service was - the creature comforts just weren't all there for me! read more
