It's not a real long review. They have rooms similar to other Holiday Inns of the vintage. That's not bad. The king room is solid. I was here because I was flying into O'Hare in the evening and didn't want to stay by the airport. It would be easier to get on the road to Rockford from here. It was also less money. Great location. Stayed in room 330 which was comfortable with king sized bed, small fridge and microwave. Bed was Comfortable and room was quiet. No view. Close to elevator and ice machine but far enough to not have noise issues. We did get free breakfast because we are rewards status but the breakfast was not great. But free is appreciated. There is a place across the street that has amazing breakfast! There is a Benningans on property. read more

Got a walk in shower suite and enjoyed it. Very clean and comfortable room. Was here for a wedding and had no issues. Was able to sleep throughout the night without hearing anything in the hallways or outside. The Bennigans connected to the hotel was very good and open until 2am. They treated our party very well. Do not book your wedding block 1. Check in was a line out the door, guests couldn't make it to dinner rehearsal on time. 2. They forgot to hand out my gift bags for my guests, then when I reminded them to they gave out the WRONG ONES. 3. Then proceeded to give my gift bags to a different wedding party staying on site. 4. Charged some of my guests the wrong price. 5. Checked one of my guests into AN ALREADY BOOKED ROOM!!!!! 6. My wedding suite had a broken fridge (my food spoiled) 7. Wedding suite has a messed up shower ! With no toiletries. 8. They kept forgetting to give my guests their 2 free breakfast vouchers. 9. They did not inform my guests what time (as promised) a reminder of rehearsal dinner time, or shuttle times. 10. The after party from our wedding we where told the bar would stay open till 2am if we kept ordering. We got there at 11:15pm and the bar manager on staff tried to kick us out at midnight while we where still ordering PLENTY OF DRINKS, and we had ordered TONS of food. 11. Some guests where taken to the wrong rooms. 12. Most of their staff where disrespectful and didn't seem to care about any issues, only two respectful ones out of at least 10. All in all they spoke a great deal of promises over the phone and through email. However it did not go how promised at all. I'm so happy I had my wedding off site. This place was a nightmare and stressed me out so bad for my wedding. They did give me some discounts for all the trouble. Extremely dusapointed with Holuday Inn Elgin, IL Total failure to have maid service for three days. had to request clean towels twice and flag down the maid for supplies. Each day reported our disappointment to the front desk our trash was overflowing, no clean towels and needed supplies as well as bed made. just apolagies and no action. In order to have our dirty towels picked up we had to place the on the floor outdide our room with our overflowing trash. total failure for a chain that prices on cleanliness. I was booked to stay here for three months for work. Often times I would have to work overnight and sometimes not come back to the room for one or two nights. The first week I was booked and I had to work overnight I returned to my room and all my food was missing. I called to ask for a manager and was told no manager was available. I called the following day and I was told My food had been returned. I was given no explanation as to why my food was taken, I had perishable items from the refrigerator that were spoiled when it was returned. Week number two I again had to work overnight and I took my bag with me. When I returned the following day everything was gone again and I was checked out of my room and my three months long reservation was canceled. I was given no reason, I guess the cleaning crew saw my bags were gone and they just automatically checked me out without notifying me or bothering to look at my 3 month reservation. Obviously I did not return to this place and I checked in at a nearby Marriott that's much nicer and more professional. I was given No apology not a call or anything . It took two weeks just to get ahold of a manager to get him to try and pay for all the food that was taken. I was told to send him a receipt for the food. The receipt was for $450.00 and I was sent a check for $300.00....why that amount? I'm not sure. All I can say is the management at this place is completely incompetent . They have absolutely no idea how to provide service. You don't kick out a person that is booked in your room for 3 months by an agency that sends people to your hotel for long periods of time. I have notified my agency and they will no longer be sending any more guests to this holiday inn because of their incompetence. read more

Beautiful hotel and the bed was super comfortable, but definitely won't be staying in another Holiday inn with a restaurant. The last one I stayed at in Elmhurst had FREE continental breakfast, Pool, and everything for 85. The vending machines aren't updated to take cards. So I had to go all the way downstairs to buy a water. My room had to be moved to another because the battery on the door died and I spent 30 mins going up and down 4 times before they believed the card wasn't working. For $100, not worth it. read more

This hotel is very conveniently located, and has a breakfast buffet for about $12. It also has an attached Bennigan's, with the best roasted Brussels sprouts ever! Check in was quick and painless (points!), and our handicap accessible room was directly across the hall from the elevator. The room was spacious, clean, quiet, and comfortable. The television had cable, and numerous on demand movies. The bed was very nice, with crisp linens and lots of pillows. The A/C worked, and the heat outside stayed outside. The air conditioner is a little noisy, as mentioned by another reviewer, but, if there's any noise outside, we sure won't hear it. This makes a nice stopping place on our way to downtown Chicago, and there's an Alexander's next door for a big breakfast. read more

Stayed here for the weekend for our daughter's soccer tournament. This was a very clean hotel, great service! The pool area was great, especially if you have little ones. It was nearly zero depth entrance, had spraying jets across the pool, and a water tree dropping water on the kids. Bennigan's restaurant attached had great food and delivers for room service. Buyer beware.. our room service bill had an additional $11 tacked on between the 20% gratuity and $2 delivery fee. They keep that in the small print! Seems a bit on the excessive side! Such a bad experience for a really nice, clean hotel. Management is terrible and needs a refresher on how to deal with guests. Was there last weekend for the IRCA State competition. One of our coaches reserved 5 rooms under her name. She was advised that upon check in, each family could pay for their room. As there was much traffic on Friday afternoon, we went straight to the competition vs the hotel. I called them 3 times just to confirm that I would still be checking in that night and that the room will be charged to my card. They confirmed all 3 times. At the competition, my coach lets me know that they charged my room to her card. At check in, I asked about the misunderstanding that they would charge my card. The lady at the front desk just said "Oh yea, they charged her room for the one night stay". I asked her repeatedly to confirm if my coach is charged, I will just pull money out of the atm in their lobby and pay my coach directly. She said yes, the room was charged to her card. The last thing I needed to do was add a card for $20 for any incidentals. I swiped my card, I signed the receipt saying $20. I pulled out the money from the atm and paid my coach. The next morning before checking out, we noticed there were 2 charges to my bank account. One for $20 and another for $104. I asked Nancy at the front desk to look into this. She stated that the lady from check in must have accidentally inputted a night's stay instead of the incidental fee. She spoke with the manager that morning. He told her to reverse it and she did. He said it would take about 5 business days to reverse. There was no apology from anyone but I thanked them and went to eat breakfast. 4 days after checking out, another night's stay is charged to my card, (meanwhile the other incorrect charge is still deducted from my account) I called the hotel, spoke with Nancy and says she does not want to give me the runaround and I should speak with the manager Luis. Again, no apology over the phone. I called to speak with Luis later that afternoon and leave my number for a call back. I called that evening and speak with Luis. He is so nonchalant about the entire situation. Well you need to talk with your coach because we only charged her for her room. I asked him how does that happen when I asked multiple times if my room was charged to her card. He said well people make mistakes. I asked him if he can look into the account. He got my name and room number and confirmed that we were charged for 1 night and my coach for 1 night. Again no apologies. I asked him for corporate after not getting much out of him and he asks if we can just work with them since there were new employees and it was a busy weekend. I told him he has not apologized for any inconvenience or wrongdoings for their employees, he said it may seem like I dont care but I do and then gave a half hearted apology. I again asked for the number to corporate and he finally provided it. Again, the space was really nice and clean and comfortable beds. Bennigans which is attached, was great! We also ate at the buffet and were charged for 1 meal vs 2. My husband adds the amount for 2 with the receipt book and when the waiter comes over to our table, instead of apologizing and saying they made a mistake with the check but would need the book back, he reaches over my husband's entire body and food and recovers the receipt. He just says, this is the right one. As he is walking away with our book, I tell him there is money in that one already. He keeps walking as he is opening it. Not a good experience overall. management really needs to do a better job. I will never recommend anyone to stay here again. read more

The front desk employee was very nice but our room was a different story. The ceiling started leaking around 10pm, it was dripping on the chair next to the bed. I tried calling from the room phone and always got a busy signal. I called from my cell and let them know about it and I got "yeah it does that". Oh...maybe they shouldn't have put someone in that room if they know the ceiling leaks. I was too tired to change rooms and my daughter was asleep I just wanted to make sure they were aware of it. Then I come down to the breakfast and the lady working was very rude. They give breakfast coupons for a discount when you check in and they told me my daughter (who is 4) wouldn't need one. The lady at the breakfast area said she would and have me a menu with a price on it. I would have just got her one at the front desk with ours. I'm still not sure how it works or if we would have needed to pay because the employee was rude and didn't have any interest in answering my questions. read more

This hotel is located in a pretty convenient spot and we stayed here for a Halloween party we were attending in town. The hotel itself was pretty nice, clean, and had a lot going on (two weddings and a convention) but it wasn't overwhelming or overly crowded. The room was okay and the beds were super soft and comfortable. I do have one major complaint, though. We had two rooms, both on hotel points (my husband is a spire member), and he called in advance and asked if we could have our rooms close together. We understand that rooms immediately next to each other may not be possible, but requested the same floor. When we checked in the gentleman that the front desk, Chris I believe was his name, was very rude and not helpful. My husband asked if our rooms were close by and he responded "We have two weddings" like that was supposed to answer our question. Then my husband asked what they offered as a welcoming gift (for IHG members they normally offer bonus points, breakfast, or bottled water) and his response was "Your rooms are already free, what else do you want?" I will say the woman at the front desk in the morning was very pleasant but we will not be staying here again. read more

This is a lovely holiday inn hotel experience! The beds are very regal and comfortable, we received free WiFi and a couple of Thanksgiving coupons for the weekend from the front desk. The hotel is very classy and modern and the environment is excellent. There was no noise or disruption during the night which was excellent. The only drawback for me was the maids knocking at the door too early for me (8:30; 10:00 am) and coming back repeatedly. So other than the maid staff, this was a great stay! read more

While driving along the freeway, I was growing wearier and wearier on my way out to my dear friend's bachelorette party, and this looked like a friendly place to stop. Although, I admit there was a stank to the air in Elgin -- totally NOT Holiday Inn's fault. I had absolutely zero negative encounters staying here. The lobby is very nice, the staff was politely and sent me off to my room in under five minutes. The room itself was VERY clean with a super comfy bed and an immaculate bathroom. I was able to get some well-needed Zzzzzzs and head back on the road again the next morning feeling much more peppy. The view of the parking lot and distant strip malls didn't inspire me to paint much, but what the heck do you expect in Elgin, Illinois? read more

This is a great hotel. We had the king suite. The rooms are clean, quiet, and large. $10 taxi ride to the casino. Bennigan's restaurant and bar down stairs is nice for a night cap. We didn't eat, but restaurant appeared clean,and nice. We will definitely stay here again. Had a nice time. read more

I really enjoyed staying here. The staff is very friendly, especially Denise at the front desk. She was always very courteous and did what she could to accommodate me, even though I felt like I was being high maintenance lol. The rooms are very clean and nice, there is a little workout room, a pool, and a Bennigan's restaurant connected. Bennigan's was actually better than I thought it was going to be, Especially the bread pudding dessert! Stayed for three nights and paid good money. Couldn't believe there was no free coffee in the lobby 24 - 7 for the guests and then I was shocked to find out continental breakfast was $11.95. I also didn't appreciate the signs in the lobby saying if you didn't buy your food from the restaurant or the hotel then you couldn't eat it in the common areas of the hotel. What a difference a day makes, I recently posted about the Holiday Inn in Troy, IL and how good the hotel was there. Now, I get to paint a contrast of this hotel. First, check in was snail slow, they had one attendant there to handle check in's, whereas, the Troy area had two young ladies there to handle check in's. Next, I'm a stickler for consistency, for example, if you are a breakfast attendant and you seat people at the tables, I expect the same treatment, like the next guy. So, if you're Hispanic and you smile and welcome Hispanic guests, you should not frown and half way seat your white or black guest. Next, $12 is a little too much for the spread presented to the guest. I get one has options to go other restaurants to get your breakfast fill, but twelve bones for potatoes, small omelets and biscuit / gravy ain't worth that. Over-all the rooms were clean and spacious, but this establishment gets a sneaky 3 stars from me. read more

Called the front desk and said since we bought the room from third party hotel they couldn't give us any type of refund or discount. Pretty much didn't really care at that! Very unexpected and awesome! The remodel job is outstanding. The staff is friendly, a Bennigan's is connected, Free wi-fi in the rooms, dual shower heads (suites), the carpet is brand new and the pool is one of the best I have seen in a local-based non-tourist hotel. I haven't been in a Holiday Inn, in over 20 years. My my time do fly... * Note: review is based on the fact I was here on business * This particular hotel is situated in an area of Elgin, right off the highway, where you feel like you're being dropped off in the middle of nowhere. With no sidewalks, crosswalks, restaurants (sans Bennigan's in the hotel, and Alexander's across the street), there's not much to see or do. Church lovers unite, however, as there are two worship locations across the street. Along with a couple of gas stations and Dunkin Donuts (Yeee!!), I sadly did not partake in Dunkin / Baskin Robbins coffee and ice cream during my stay. As far as the hotel is concerned, it's really kept up. From the lobby to the elevator to the room (and everything I saw in between), the place is neat and tidy. The staff do a great job at making sure things are in order and clean. My welcome into the hotel was greeted by two women at the front desk (I did not get their names), and I was told all about check in and a hold charge (there's a monetary fee on credit cards for incidentals, if you're not the person paying the room). I signed my name on all the paperwork and was given a welcome bag - a standard greeting letter from the GM, a bottle of water, and a nice sized bag of trail mix. Thanks! Went to room, put my stuff down, and did some exploring. The room was surely big enough for a couple, but since I was by myself, three quarters of the queen sized bed was left empty. The burgundy (?) accent wall was a nice touch to the room, and the couch looked still new (the leather [?] seats didn't look like anyone sat in them and the fabric on the rest of the couch was still stiff). A 30 inch swivel LG TV on the dresser was helpful in watching the morning news from the desk. The mini fridge may have been empty upon arrival, but it fit two energy drinks and a one liter bottle of water rather nicely, and a decent grocery bag could have easily fit on the shelves. The bathroom was spacious in length, but I felt like the toilet being so close to the shower/tub, that it was awkward trying to turn the water on for showers. Bathroom also had a small coffee maker (with both decaf and regular coffee, as well as decaf and regular Earl Grey tea), line of toiletries, and plenty of towels. Walking around, work out room seemed tiny, but I did not go in to get fit during my stay. Pool looked welcoming, but that too, remained untested. The business center was quaint, although all the local business pamphlets were locked away in this room. You need your hotel key to get into the room, and unless specified to the location of the pamphlets, you don't know what's around the area. That would probably be my only gripe about the place - put all those tourist books out in the open so visitors can see them. Otherwise the business center is a nice feature to be able to check in to the airport on a Windows 95 operating system. What about food, you ask? There's a breakfast buffet in the morning, courtesy of Crystal's Breakfast Restaurant, which is directly across from the front desk. Bennigan's is attached to the hotel, and you can get in from either their front door or the hallway connected the two establishments. Otherwise, there's Alexander's and Dunkin Donuts across the street. I didn't see any thing else around. Will I go back? I don't know; if my company books my stay here again, then the answer is yes. We travel a lot for sports and weren't expecting much but I would recommend this hotel! The breakfast was good, had a lot of options. The waitresses in the breakfast area were friendly. Bennigan's (the restaurant connected to the hotel) was amazing, the service and the food were top notch! However, the keys didn't work on occasion and on our last day we were locked out of our room before the checkout time. The elevator also broke for almost the whole day and when it did get fixed only one of the two was working properly. The pool was pretty chilly and the hot tub could have been hotter. read more

We stay at a lot of Holiday Inn hotels due to traveling sports. This is the top one on our list. Nice big pool, in hotel Bennigan's restaurant, which was best too. It's more like a 4 star hotel. Can't beat this at $100 night. We will be back again. read more
