From friends, I'd heard about this venue in Elgin before but never had a chance to visit until I…read moreattended a wedding here recently. Now after attending, I can say that this spot really exceeded expectations. One of the best things about this spot was having a large variety of different areas for guests to spread out and socialize. This led to a much more relaxed atmosphere for talking than most weddings that I've attended (I'm not huge into dancing). Even throughout the afternoon and evening, it was very nice to be able to enjoy appetizers on the beautiful rooftop deck, enjoy music and dancing on the dance floor, while still being able to carry on a conversation in the large main dining room -- or head downstairs to lounge around to avoid the crowds and noise. As I attended for a family wedding, I was also able to utilize the generously sized suites that had more than enough room for everyone to bring items they needed and have space to get ready for the event. The Haight has done the look of a rustic venue better than most places that I've seen. One thing that I really appreciated is that the look is rustic, but the facilities themselves are in great shape and modern. There were also plenty of great photo spots all around the venue that were lit nicely and contributed to guests having plenty of photo opportunities that they could create on their own. For those who were looking to rest, I did enjoy having sofas and softer cushioned chairs available to relax in. Overall, excellent venue that I would love to attend another wedding in the future. A beautiful facility with friendly service and lots of space to move around make this a great gathering spot.

There truly is nowhere else that will give the same experience or the same level of service from Kari Haight or her assembled team of fairy god mothers. I'm tearing up thinking about it. From the start, Kari decorated the entrance lobby with photos of us and our families, and it was just such a thoughtful and special touch. The outdoor aisle and rooftop deck is unreal, and if you're getting married in fair weather it's SO pretty with the lights. The reception area- WOW. The vintage lights and hanging greens were gorgeous. They set up everything so perfectly that I felt like I was on a movie set. The dance zone is also a great spot by the bar and they keep the rooftop open so you can take breather and fresh air after dancing. I'm telling you, this place has everything you'd want for your wedding day! Finally-Kari has a great team, she and her staff and vendors not only give top of the line service and coordination, but they were so kind and took attention to every detail. So I'd definitely suggest going with her preferred vendors, they know what they're doing and then some. Also-I had a veil emergency and Kari raced to the rescue by providing me with one the day of! There's just nowhere or no one else that'll go above and beyond the same way.

Absolutely one of the most pleasant vendor experience of our special day! Must not miss out!…read moreElements Preserved was my discovery during my Bridal Shower, for a peacock chair, and then revisited for my sister in law's Baby shower. Element's pieces made a statement, that had our whole family and friends in awe. I knew we had to have Elements Preserved pieces for the Wedding day as well. It is absolutely worth the effort to go in person and see the warehouse in its entirety. Beth's eye for detail and creative mind really is present in the beautiful space. The moments in her warehouse alongside my-then Fiance brought the most excitement and warmth when choosing which items to rent. Truly fine-tuning our aesthetic, our personality, our love story and finding items that reflected who we are. Throughout our wedding we had moments with each other where we could look over and see those pieces scattered through our cocktail hour and reception that made the biggest impact. I could not have imagined our wedding day without those gems form Elements Preserved. Thank you Beth for your guidance and passion. It would not have had that loving essence anchoring us. She was so crucial in helping build the look of my event. I love, love, loved the two lounges they helped me create and all the little pieces that helped fill out the rest of the event. So happy my photographer, Anamaria Vieriu, helped me find Beth!!! Thank you, Beth!!

She…read morekinda looked at my funny, but I think she thought about it for a minute and realized that Bingo is awesome and everyone should play at least once in a while. She got on her handy iPhone and found S. Elgin's Lions Club. Bingo on Saturday nights. 2 (6 board) cards for $11 with some bonus game options for a buck a piece. It was a blast. They have a full service bar, snacks, and food. They even have Pull Tabs!!! If you have been to Michigan (and I'm sure other states, too), you will know what I'm referring to. It's a great time for little moolah if you can control yourself and I cant wait to go back. But be careful....you should not yell "Bingo!" unless you are absolutely certain you have it.... ...I did this and it was incredibly embarrassing. :/ Also, they are very quiet here while the game is going. This is not a social event by any means.

I visit the South Elgin Lions Club from time to time with my sister. I toss on a babushka to keep my hairdo in place until my weekly trip to the parlor (just kidding, btw), grab some bottled water, snacks, my bingo dabbers and cash then I'm on my way. Doors open at like 5pm on Saturday - actually it might even be a little earlier, but the Lions have a Facebook page, so you may want to double check there. I've only been that early once and we got prime seating, but boy were the regulars mad at us. So I try to get in by 5:30 and get average seating upstairs. They have two bars - one upstairs and one downstairs. They have plenty of drink options and lots of sweet treats available for purchase. They sell some savory bites as well, but I haven't tried those. It's a lot of packaged bakery items to raise funds for the club which is fine by me. The mint chocolate pie last time was a nice choice. Anyhow, we usually pick our table. Lay claim to our seats and then go buy our bingo cards, raffles and computers. You can have a pretty fun evening on just a small amount of money. $20 could easily be sufficient, but I usually end up in the $40 range. It's still reasonable considering we are there until almost 10pm and don't go that often. They also have half price bingo once a month which is extra crowded, but totally worth it! The early bird starts at 6:45pm. Don't worry - a regular will explain it all to you. The first official game is at 7pm. This is officially not the time to chat. You don't want to miss a number on one of your boards or you could risk throwing the whole thing out the window. Also, please don't call, text or Facebook me when I'm at bingo. Service can be spotty and I need to focus. Don't forget, I'm trying to win big money here. It can be a lot of fun especially if you win. Grab your lady friends (or a strapping young lad) and head over for the evening. Maybe I'll see you there!

A place for people could gather and share stories and good times and figure out what the community needed. It was a place for camaraderie. It's where people open the door for you and are generally concerned about your well-being and making sure you enjoy your stay. There are no cell phones here. People don't use them. They specialize in conversations and fish fries and our fish was excellent. They have haddock walleye and whole catfish. Their Turner potatoes are excellent. Today they seem to be more social and civic-oriented. The chapter near me is in Elgin, IL, a distant western burb of Chicago, just south of Interstate 90, and their Friday night fare offers a choice of Haddock, Catfish, Walleye, Shrimp, or a Grilled Chicken Breast, including sides of slaw, baked potato, fries, rings, or seasoned baby reds. Rolls and butter are also provided as well as generous amounts of tartar sauce, lemon and butter. All entrees are priced between $11-$13, and service is from 5-8PM Fridays at the hall, which is located at 112 Villa Street in Elgin. Parking is in the rear of the building, service is on the second floor. There is a full bar, and their hours are longer than just the dinner service. We opted for the catfish, as it was a whole fish, bone-in, lightly battered, and it's been difficult for us to find bone-in cat lately, most everyone serves filets. American habits, I guess.  Also had the walleye, and exceptionally large filet, nicely breaded, and went with the onion rings for a side, large whites with a tasty thick beer batter. Both fish selections were prepared perfectly. Crispy coatings, flaky, moist flesh. The slaw was creamy but with a little bit of kick to it. Service was fast with an affable professional waitperson who came around just often enough to make sure our drinks were kept full. I had been once before. 2016 apparently, and I wrote about it on this site. At that time, the service was on the lower level, but it's moved upstairs which is roomier and lighter. I'll go several more times before Easter, I guarantee it. While I haven't checked their calendar recently, they also used to serve special dinners on National and German holidays.
