Harmony Hot Yoga, Pilates & Aerial Center: The Gem of the South…read more As soon as you enter this impeccable space, it is immediately apparent this is a place of sanctuary. The clean lines, the gorgeous wood, the smiling faces who greet you as soon as you enter: this is THE PLACE to be healed, inside and out. I have had the pleasure of teaching at several yoga studios across the nation, and to take a number of workshops and classes at even more of them. By far, Harmony is the most refined, state-of-the-art studio I have ever practiced. Harmony was conceived in the spirit of authenticity, and studio owners Kay and Dewey Forrester are undeterred in their mission to spread the message of restoration and well-being to the Milledgeville community and beyond. They have structured their life in the essence of agape`, the Christian term for "the highest form of love" and "the love of God for man and of man for God," and it certainly shows. The hot Bikram and Vinyasa classes will realign your spine and make you feel as if you can take on the world, but there are other offerings at this studio that will appeal to beginners and experienced practitioners alike. Inferno Hot Pilates classes consist of full-body High Intensity Interval Training--using controlled movements to achieve long, lean muscle--and Tabata--a method whereby eight sets of an exercise are conducted in two and a half minutes, 20 seconds of activity followed by 10 seconds of rest. These classes are as addictive as their positivity is infectious, and the group energy of the Harmony regulars is positively unprecedented. For those of you seeking something with a bit more levity and less heat, aerial yoga provides just that: stretching through the use of trapeze silks. It is an interesting and fun way to engage muscle groups using the silk as a prop. Caribbean-inspired dance classes and gentler yoga offerings are also provided. All of these classes are beginner-accessible, and this studio has a knack for attracting the most knowledgeable and committed instructors around to help you along the way. The Forresters have committed their lives to improving the quality of life for their friends and neighbors, and they are a visible testament to living in accordance with the higher power who compelled them to this path. Whether you are a seasoned yogi, looking to spice up your fitness routine, or a complete fitness newbie, this is certainly the place for you. Please visit http://www.harmonyhotyoga.com/ to see schedule times and to book your new favorite class today! You may also telephone (478) 454-8806 for any inquiries before your first class. From entering the door to the moment you leave, you can trust you will be cared for here. Located at 1841 North Columbia Street Suite C in Milledgeville, please make sure to drop in to Harmony Hot Yoga Pilates & Aerial Center. When it comes to fitness, community, and 100% heart, this is truly the gem of the South.

This is a donation based studio with a recommended donation of 10$ to keep up with their expenses. You sign in at the front, put your donation in the box, and head to the air conditioned studio with mats, blocks, and blankets available to you. Our instructor greeted us right away with a smile. The class itself was good intensity for power flow, and the music was contemporary, upbeat, and matched the energy of the class. Definitely check out power flow Tuesday's at 7pm with Paul.

(Yes, I live within 100 feet of train tracks. Yes, the train goes by often. No, it does not wake me up at night.) Rubber Soul is tucked away in the pretty yet unassuming Leathers Building, which is on Pulaski Street right before you get to the tracks. Rubber Soul has a small door marked with a stand-up metal YOGA sign; their front door always has that month's class schedule posted for the taking. Rubber Soul is a donations-based yoga center. A $3-5 donation per class attended is suggested but not monitored or required. (Not monitored as in they don't watch each person enter to see if they're paying or not.) I paid $5 my first time but only $2 today. You can go for free if you can't afford to donate, and they won't hate you for it. The classes are all taught by volunteer teachers who really believe that yoga can help you physically and spiritually. Thus far, no one I've encountered over there is overly preachy, so that's nice. The space is small but comfortable. Yoga mats can be rented for a $1 donation; bottles of water cost the same. Yoga bricks (?) and blankets are yours for the taking during class. I went to Laughing Club there a few months back with some friends. A fun and strange experience in which we spent an hour making weird noises, movements, and giggles. You should try it, especially if the idea freaks you out. Today I went to Gentle Yoga and loved it. Even the gentle class was a little workout for this novice! I love that this place is a non-profit. I love how involved they are with the community. I love the cozy space that doesn't waste resources. I love and don't love that the schedule changes month to month. Check their website for class details, and let me know if you're going to a session! See you there.
