Looking for a place to feed your Ramen, Sushi, Asian appetite. This is the place. On a quiet August Sunday we walked in for the first time and waited to be seated. The wait was less than 10 minutes. From our table I could see the sushi chef and bartender taking extra care in their craft. The food was delicious. My wife ordered the Spicy Beef Ramen and requested "low spice". Her first sip took her breath away and she began coughing. The waitress picked up the dish and came back with a "no spice" Beef Ramen that still had plenty of depth and heat. The vibe was welcome and inviting. If I had a negative critique, it would be that the food came out in no specific order. However I prefer that over food that gets staged in the kitchen long enough to get cold while waiting its turn. Price was $88.00 plus tip for 3 people, but was loved every bite. read more

I'm a big fan of Pho and always looking for the next bowl of noodles and flavor. Entering this place was a bit confusing and no one was there to greet us. We finally approached the bartender and asked if we were to seat ourselves. They hesitated for a moment and called someone to come help us. We continued waiting another few minutes and a server came and put our name on the list. Though the restaurant was about 30% seated we waited about 20 minutes. We were sat and our server told us it'd be a minute longer before she could get to us. We sat at the table closest to the open air kitchen. Server showed up after us waiting another 5 minutes. We ordered and the food came up quickly and everything looked and smelled amazing. The gyoza came out hot and very flavorful. The pho looked better than it tasted, it was bland though the vegetables and proteins were cooked good. The flavor was more like a broth, it lacked substance, umami and depth as I expected. The prices are a bit high, the environment was bright and loud, definitely not a place for that first date. But great place if you and your friends are wanting to sit and talk loudly to each other. GAS! we're practically regulars haha! the staff are the sweetest, extremely kind and they recognize my family from us being here so frequently. the layout is sooo cute and lit up so cutely with colored lights during dinner hours. the blossom tree when you enter is so beautiful, all the decor is absolute eye candy. alongside with the little robot server-- SO CUTE! the cooking/sushi bar is open for people to see-- cool design choice. for appetizers the karaage (japanese fried chicken) is given in bigger portions during lunch, but smaller during dinner, so plan accordingly, it's perfectly crunchy and juicy, works well with the sweet chili sauce. the bang bang shop personally is my FAVORITE. the shrimp pieces are HUGE and so crispy, the sauce it's doused in is one of my favorites! i need a bottle of it personally. for entrees, the rolls are very filling, and EXTREMELY FRESH! i will say the sashimi is on the pricier side so not worth it imo. but everything else is divine. typically deep fried rolls get too filling and make you feel overly stuffed, but hokkaido cooks them to perfection. the regular special rolls are unique and great flavor pairings. the ramen is AMAZING. very filling and full of flavors that compliment each other wonderfully. the broth is rich and the side chilli oil sauce that they give pairs with it nicely. the portions are huge, we can barely finish it most of the time. read more

We were so excited to try a new Japanese spot in town. Japanese is my favorite! And this place was amazing, for Columbia/Missouri especially. The restaurant is actually pretty big! Open area, able to see the kitchen and chefs, lots of booths. The staff were all so friendly. The five stars is mainly for the ramen and the staff. The sushi was good but not amazing, but for Columbia this place is awesome. - Takoyaki (4/5): I loved this! It was creamy and delicious. My husband wanted more octopus but I enjoyed it. - Chicken karage (3.5/5): The flavor was okay, and I wish the chicken was more crispy. - Garlic tonkatsu ramen (4.5/5): I love the flavor of the broth! So savory, perfectly salty. The noodles were Al dente. Such a good ramen place! I don't have enough good things to say about this place. To start, the ambiance is impeccable. Upscale "downtown Tokyo" feel with nice artwork throughout. Seems like a good date night spot. Service was fast and efficient. Then the food. The Tonkotsu ramen? 10/10. Very flavorful broth, super tender meat, and they don't rip you off with the amount of meat they give you. I tried the Bozeman roll as well and again, very large portion for a reasonable price. And also very delicious. Finally, the Boba. I'm generally skeptical about boba at non-boba focused joints, but this has got to be some of the best I've had! The pearls were perfectly soft and tender and had a very good sweet brown sugar flavor. Sometimes boba is mostly just texture, but they made it very well to where I was digging out every tapioca pearl from the bottom of the drink. Note that the pearls will stiffen up as it sits in the drink too long, so best to drink it ASAP when you get it for the full experience! I will definitely be back! read more

This is probably the best ramen spot in Columbia. Everything I got was delicious except I probably will not be getting the sesame rice balls again, they just had a bean filling I wasn't a fan of. The ramen was spicy with a lot of flavors in it, the pork belly in it was top tier as well. The sushi and gyoza was very good too. The restaurant is very clean and you can even see the chefs cooking in the back. Upon receiving our food I tried the broth and then realized they messed up my spicy beef and gave me pork ! As someone who can't eat pork this was upsetting and we had to reorder my spicy beef ramen and make sure with the cooks no pork was added! I've had Ramen bowls around the town where I live and none of them can touch Hokkaido's. Rich hearty broth with ramen done to perfection. I had the Spicy Beef ramen, and it was so warming and satisfying. Great beefy flavor with just the right amount of heat. Rafi was our server, and he was excellent. Very polite and accommodating and served us quickly. I ordered a Mojito from the bar and it had to be about the best I've ever had. Easy to find, great location and atmosphere.
