    Flan

Only open Wednesday, was worth the wait. Food was delicious. Aguachilies like nothing i had before. The chilled shrimp ceviche was perfect on a hot day. Very flavorful and spice picked up throughout the meal. But not too spicy, just perfect Best Flan i have ever eaten. Standa on its own. Although i personally could have done without the coco nibs. Service was friendly and helpful.

Where do I begin? My wife and I were roaming around Palm Springs on a honeymoon vacation one Sunday night and we stumbled upon a teeny tiny empty open patio restaurant(come to learn they were trying to find a permanent location). We decided we were going to try it out as the menu we had looked at, spoke to me directly, as my family is from Oaxacan. I am familiar with Mole and Chapulines, they had me at that. From the very beginning, while looking at the silverware... I knew this was going to be either breathtaking or a disastrous cover up for god awful food. Well, if you've gotten this far... based on my 5 star review... you know that I was left short of breath. The silverware shined in such a way, that they would put some of the most expensive steakhouses to shame, their glasses crystal clean. The service, was on point. The server was well mannered and genuine, sadly because I was in the moment, I did not get his name. At the time, we ordered the Bread and Butter, Agua Chiles, Birria Ramen, The Octopus Tetela, Flan with Kumquat and Chapulines. When I say that everything was creative and full of flavor... it is and was exactly that. Bread and Butter, the sourdough bread was toasted to perfection, the butter was a unique blend I believe of Morita Chile and Lava Salt... if you thought bread at large food chain restaurants was your enemy... this simple plate would have left all those moments you experienced in the past... in the past. Aguachiles was the most complex flavored dish of the night.... each bite you took, left you tasting different flavors and textures. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, the unique sauce the dish had with the lime, salsa macha, grapes, avocado... no words to describe it but simply worked. The Octopus Tetela. Octopus cooked beautifully. Slight char, not rubbery, soft, refined. Paired with the pork beans and Pipian, another hit. Flan with Kumquats.... never had I ever thought to see kumquats on a Mexican dish.. it maybe a be a common dish elsewhere but to me, that was a new one. You would expect that the kumquats would engulf the flans flavor... somehow, it paired perfectly. Each bite left me with a smile and my wife could see it all over my face. Of course I ended the night with chapulines, perfect. My wife enjoyed her Birria Ramen, unfortunately, I had ordered way too much and knew exactly what I wanted to eat and kept it at that and did not get to try the dish. She too, just as I, shared the same feeling about Hoja Blanca, simply the best restaurant to date in Palm Springs. This review is not for the people who go to restaurants and remove ingredients from menu dishes or for those who expect traditional Mexican food. This restaurant is for people who are open to new ideas or give ingredients they dislike, a second try, for those who understand what "Modern Mexican Inspired" actually entails and ultimately enjoy food that comes from chefs who make their dishes appear as a work of art. I hope that if you go ahead and give this restaurant a shot, that you thoroughly enjoy your experience and get to feel the way I do about Hoja Blanca.

I ate the Aguachiles bowl while they were doing a pop-up at Truss & Twine. The bowl and presentation was exquisite . It was spicy, but I LOVE spicy and it really hit the spot. I'm really looking forward to trying more of their dishes. The flavor was amazing as well as the presentation.

What a unique experience! The pork belly tacos were amazing. So many layers of flavor. Love the pop-up idea. Chef Limon for the win!!

    Brussels sprouts

We were really happy with our experience. We didn't have a reservation, but arrived right at 5p when they opened and had no issue sitting at the bar. We ordered the Brussels sprouts, cauliflower elotes, aguachiles, and birra ramen. Everything was tasty, but the veggies were standouts. Would highly recommend stopping in.

Palm Springs has a night market that happens Thursday night from 6-10 where it brings out people. Food vendors, arts and crafts, gifts and so on. A nice family outing on the main strip. Also all the storefronts are open as well. The thing with something like that, you tend to stand or find a seat along the curb to sit with your food. Hence we finally walked into this restaurant. It was pretty busy when we walked in but at the right time. Got seated right away as there was only two tables available. By the time we were seated, the line was pretty long. It's just off the main strip. Pretty decent size patio which seems to be where everyone was utilizing it as it was nice out. There's a bar area with seating as well as indoor, a smaller room. Service was nice. Water and menu was brought out first then came the chips and salsas. Quite tasty but can be filling if you can't control yourself. Started off with their classic margaritas and the spicy margaritas. There's a few dollars difference from classic to spicy. They weren't that bad. Menu wise, a mixture of all your Mexican dishes. We didn't have any starters as we just wanted the mains. The carne asada plate which came with both rice and beans. I opted for only rice. Thin skirt steak with chorizo, grilled jalapeño and onion, flour or corn tortillas and salsa. And the chicken enchiladas verde with the green sauce. The food was quite tasty. Carne asada plate was pretty plentiful. Nice skirt steak with a nice piece of chorizo. Both were quite tasty and flavorful. Steak was decent and cooked well. Not overly done. Then you have the enchiladas. It's decent in size but not too big. It's good if you're not too hungry. The sauce was great and was a perfect pair to the dish. As it was our first time, it was great. All these place that's been there but you walk by loads of time. Sometimes you just have to try new places out and see what comes of it. Maybe it's a hit. We quite enjoyed it and glad that we finally tried it out.

I was really disappointed with the service and overall experience…read more First, we were never offered water or refills, which set the tone right away. Both my husband and I ordered shrimp tacos. I don't eat meat, so I always choose fish or shrimp as alternatives. The first two tacos I received (fish and shrimp) actually had beef in them. I sent them back and clearly explained that I do not eat meat. I then reordered shrimp tacos and specifically told the waitress again about my dietary restriction. Unfortunately, the second batch came with bacon. While yes, I could have read every ingredient more carefully, I would expect the staff to be more attentive and helpful--especially after I had already sent food back for the same issue. Instead, the waitress lectured me about not reading the menu, which felt inappropriate and unprofessional. On top of that, the tacos themselves were not good--overloaded with random ingredients and not at all enjoyable, especially for $23. I left feeling unwell and very dissatisfied. The strangest part of the experience was the hostess at the front. She appeared completely disengaged, staring off into the distance. I tried multiple times to get her attention for something as simple as a napkin or the check, waving while she was looking in my direction, but she didn't respond at all. Overall, poor service, lack of attention to dietary needs, and disappointing food. I wouldn't return.

My fiance and I were in Palm Springs celebrating his retirement and I'd booked a reservation at Melvyn's well in advance. Unfortunately, their lack of service ruined our experience, and we walked out after waiting 25 mins to even get so much as a water. We decided to head to Sancho's and were immediately sat. Our server, Rene, was an absolute joy! He promptly brought us waters, beverages, and the some of the best fajitas EVER. In the time it took for us to walk in and out of Melvyn's, we already had everything--water, drinks, and food. Good thing too, because we were hungry! I can't say enough good things about Sancho's. They are a small business, and the hotel doesn't own them, so I'm sure they've weathered a lot with the loss of foreign tourism and tariffs. But their food and service is ON POINT and I'm so grateful to them for helping us turn a bad situation into a great one. I am still dreaming about those sizzling fajitas...they're a great deal for the price, and apparently if you go Friday's you can get the Fajita Friday discount!

The only positive is the decor,it's nice and has a cool Polynesian/mid-century vibe. That's where anything good ends. The service was terrible. We asked about specials as first-time customers, and our waitress conveniently failed to mention the Taco Tuesday deal. Instead, she rushed us to order. We later realized we ordered multiple taco plates that should have qualified for the special, but she never said a word. The food was even worse. I ordered fajitas, and what I was served was completely unacceptable,no vegetables, no resemblance to fajitas, just chopped chicken covered in chorizo and tomato sauce. It was disgusting. I took one bite and couldn't eat it. I planned to send it back, but the waitress disappeared and never came back to the table. I was stuck with it and only ate the sides, which tasted like reheated frozen vegetables and a small cup of beans. Despite barely touching the food and not receiving what I ordered, I was still charged as if everything was fine, about $22 for a plate I couldn't eat. When I finally addressed it, she insisted it was "fajitas," which is honestly ridiculous. To top it off, when my husband asked for a box, the waitress came back after handling cash and used her bare hands, with long acrylic nails,to grab his taco and put it in the container. That is completely unsanitary and unacceptable. Bad service, disgusting food, and poor hygiene. I will not be returning and will be reporting this place to the health department. Avoid this place. Warning Positive reviews are obviously coming from ownership friends.

The service was friendly and attentive, and the food was SO good. I ordered the combination platter with a crispy steak taco and the cheesiest enchilada imaginable... absolutely delicious. We also tried the open-face enchiladas loaded with avocado and generous portions that did not disappoint. But the real star? The salsa. During happy hour on a Tuesday evening, there were just a handful of customers. They serve burritos, tacos, chimichangas, enchiladas, and a few other things. Some of the dishes felt like they were missing an element like guacamole that would have pulled it together. Their dishes run between $17-25. Of the dishes we tried, the chicken fajita was good but nothing too special, the vegetarian burrito and vegetarian enchilada were also solid choices. It was nice that they had a few dedicated vegetarian dishes to choose from, as well as some vegan ones. The beef chimichanga was okay, but the corn cake seemed to be the best thing on the plate. They give the table tortilla chips and salsa complimentary. Many servers were milling around and they were relatively nice when they did come around, but they should have been more attentive to the table. No water refills either. UPDATE: Prices on the menu reflect a 3% surcharge for credit card purchases BUT if you pay cash, you should get a discount on the receipt. We got the check after awhile and we gathered our cash but no one came or told us this was the policy. It's another reflection of staff not communicating properly and as a result, us overpaying. It was noted on the menu but you can't expect customers to remember all these details. There are many eateries to choose from in this busy Palm Springs thoroughfare so you can likely find something more refined, unique and nice. Parking lot out back was great and you get 3 hours. This street has a lot of brand name and souvenir stores and is a fun walk to check out the town.
