This is an amazing little distillery. Talked with the owner who was very knowledgeable and super friendly. The whiskey was so delicious. I can't speak highly enough about having a real distillery making great whiskey come to Estes. They don't make flavored cheap stuff for tourists, this is for those with a real passion for whiskies - ranging from bourbons to Scottish. The owner is incredibly kind and willing to spend time talking about his craft. Good little place. The locals I met were very proud of the accomplishments. I am new to the area and didn't know much about the history behind the folks running the distillery or even the spirits they offered. They did offer to sell me a $40 book to learn about it. It was too packed to chat on that topic. I tried a few spirits and they were OK. I didn't think they were better or worse than stuff I have had before (i.e. other spirits). The cost was a it high for my taste. I wish them the best though. If you like spirits and are heading to/from the park you might just want to stop in. read more

We almost didn't stop in due to the hours, but on the last day of the trip we were finally available to stop in and I am so glad we did!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]While the other distilleries have very nice staff and feel inside, there is no comparison to Hogback.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The distiller hails from Scotland (and also does excellent photography) and from what I can tell, his wife runs the store. It's a humble place and the bourbon is leagues better than any other place in Estes park (or maybe Colorado? The US?). This is definitely worth planning time to stop in. read more

We ran across Hogback in Estes Park last July (2023) on a whim. Greame Wallace, master distiller and owner, sat on the deck with us for over an hour, chatting about Scotland, his heritage, interest and experience in whiskey distilling. He also obliged our tipsy tongues, with listening ears, of stories about KC, where we call home. The tasting was abundant, and we loved everything we tried, even the peaty Scotch-like whiskey (I'm growing a taste for highland Scotch, although I prefer Bourbon). Our favorite was the Herradura barrel aged bourbon, we bought two bottles and a couple others. The bottles ranged from mid $50s to $70s for the ones we bought, which I though were very reasonable, considering the quality and taste. Once home, we had friends pick us up more the following November, then I stopped by the Boulder location for more last June, and will be revisiting Estes next week. Hogback is top of the to-do list.
