Service was good. Food was so-so at best. I can't believe how hard it is to find a good BBQ place.

Visited the other night. It was a polite clean setting offering a different cuisine in the Greenbrier Valley.

We enjoyed the pulled pork sandwiches and the nachos topped with bbq pork and cheese and jalapeños - who would have thought bbq nachos?!?

(I can say this after pricing and comparing with many others even outside the Lexington area.) I will be recommending them to friends getting married all over Central Virginia including the Roanoke area. We did a tasting and loved everything we tried. We almost did not do a tasting at all due to not living in the area anymore and also because I had heard such glowing reviews from others that seriously everything is great. John, the owner, worked us in very last minute and I'm glad that he did because the tasting experience was a great chance to get to know him further. We were an unfortunate COVID wedding who postponed our May wedding to September and John could not have been easier to work with. If someone is easy to work with when almost everything is going wrong and you have essentially no idea of guest count, then I am positive he is outstanding for the general wedding. We did passed appetizers which were all a hit. Then some of our dinner is shown in my photos. The photos of our dinner look like I grabbed stock catering photos from google. We had the flank steak with gorgonzola butter and the grilled chicken bruschetta, where many guests cannot decide the favorite. The herbed garlic mashed potatoes still have guests talking. We did a buffet style dinner and the serving staff were beyond knowledgeable, professional, and fast at getting people through the line. We also hired them for bartending our open bar and the guests loved the bartenders. All around, I am still getting comments about how we had the "best wedding food' people had ever had and that the staff was so professional that it felt like no one was ever waiting for anything. As an added bonus, the staff was extra attentive to us during the wedding and were almost always bringing us drinks and food as they know that we would otherwise not have time to do so. Top notch crew! Another note is that one of the main reasons for why we chose CHEFS was the pricing. We spoke with so many caterers who would charge $1/plate to cut a cake (that we had already bought) or $1/glass to pour champagne. CHEFS including those kinds of services in addition to offering extremely reasonable pricing on the food that they do prepare. We purchased our own alcohol in bulk and then hired them for bartending, but almost changed our minds last minutes as even their alcohol packages far exceed other venders.

CHEFS (John and Doug) catered our wedding in August 2012. We were lucky enough to have them do our…read morerehearsal dinner, wedding food and Sunday brunch and all three were BEYOND what someone should be allowed to experience in the same weekend. From a down-home cookout with pulled pork, nacho mac n' cheese and strawberry shortcake for the rehearsal dinner to an all-out food love fest on our wedding day (which included chef-attended Sautéed Southern Comfort Shrimp and grits and Beef Tenderloin stations and a salad/veggie station) to a quiet Sunday brunch complete with french-toast with VANILLA ICE CREAM in the toast batter, we would not have been happier. John and Doug worked with us and our budget to create a weekend that our guests still rave about (sometimes I worry that they've forgotten about the wedding and think they went to a culinary expo instead). They also provided bartenders and help choosing signature drinks and set-up one of their "Last-Call" stations for grilled cheese and fluffernutter sandwiches for when all of our guests needed some bread to soak up those "signature drinks" of ours. Don't hesitate to give them a call, and don't be daunted by prices, they are more than willing to substitute things to meet your needs. Will your guests be upset that you went with beef tenderloin instead of Prime Rib? Not that way that Doug and John cook, they won't. The experience that CHEFS give you is almost equal to their incredible food....almost :)

I guess there is no changing your mind that day. And I guess it's loyal base has lives that this works for. Whom does this place cater to? Not your average person by any means. Certainly not people actually out working. Perhaps office or bank employees around town who know on Monday what they will want for lunch on Wednesday. Not knowing this. I googled them, saw no hours, nor any explanation. We were only two minutes away, so I just drove over. Never mind that it took 15 minutes to park in downtown Lewisburg. It looked closed so I walked to the door to look for hours. Nothing but a menu taped to the window. I saw two women inside. One looked right at me, so I smiled and waved. She quite literally looked at me like she was exhausted with me already, raised her eyebrows and shook her head no. Which I interpreted as we are closed. Fair enough. So I hop back in the truck and pull up their website. Funny, looks like most of the reaturaunt sites in Lewisburg, all made by the same company. The only explanation on their website states it's pick up and delivery style. Okay, great. Have to download their menu. Okay. Finally, it looks like we will be able to order. Not so fast. After downloading, and only after downloading the menu, does it state you must order 48 hours in advance....wow. That's something your website designer should probably put on the front page of your site. Or maybe you, as the business owner, should put this on Google. Or at least hours and 48-hour advance pick-up delivery ONLY somewhere on Google. Maybe a door sign for all the average people who think this is an actual restaurant, so they don't get snooty looks when they smile at you. Some of us aren't aware of the odd way your business works. I've lived all over, and I've managed four diamond restaurants. Huge scale casino restaurants, small boutique steakhouses, fifties style diners, etc, and never seen this type of model for a restaurant, small or large. Clearly, people are fans. They seem to do well enough. But as it is nothing they offer that looks so good, unique, or special that I would order 48 hours in advance. Like many of the resturaunts downtown, they give the vibe that you are lucky to get food from them. Instead of appreciating your current AND would be customers. In addition, any negative review that is put on Google is met with the owner doing a sales pitch about their local ingredients and how popular they are among their wealthy clientele. Because that's who their clientele actually is, wealthy locals and wealthy tousits. They don't address the actual issue the customer had in their review or state they will work to remedy it. She uses it as a chance to talk about how great her restaurant is. Obviously, if someone has written a negative review about your business, there is a valid reason you may need to address. Instead of, you know, using it as a chance to self promote.
