This rescue imposes unnecessarily burdensome and discriminatory requirements on disabled and…read moreelderly adopters. After approving our application and after I personally spent over 30 minutes meeting the dogs, they insisted that my partially disabled wife travel a 2.5‑hour round trip so a medically untrained volunteer could "evaluate" whether she might fall on a dog. That person would then report their impressions to a committee for final approval. I am fully mobile and would be the primary caregiver for the dogs. My wife simply wanted companionship. No other rescue in our 20 years of adopting dogs has ever required this kind of intrusive and medically unqualified assessment, nor have they refused to offer reasonable accommodation such as a home visit. This process effectively penalizes disabled applicants and creates barriers that are unnecessary, inappropriate, and discriminatory in practice. For an adoption fee of $600, adopters deserve a respectful, professional, and accommodating process. Until they revise these policies or offer a reasonable alternative, this review stands. Apparently the concept of service or companion animals for the elderly or partially handicapped is beyond the capacity of this rescue. They will claim that they just want to protect the animal while providing unqualified and a harshly judgemental attitude toward the human client.

First, I will always adopt directly from South Lake Animal League or Orlando Cat Cafe. It is very…read moreobvious to me that they really do place the animals & rehoming the animals above everything. They were prompt to tell me that Big Red's status was clear immediately after his neutering & that our application process/vetting was done. I filled the paperwork Sunday, that same week Big Red was neutered Wednesday/Thursday, and when they reopened on Friday we picked him up promptly at 10am he was ready & raring to go & be a part of his new little family. Big Red, (now Frohike) - is a fighter. Audrey showed me photos of when they picked him up & I was shocked - his eye was completely swollen shut, he was thin, & sickly. He's got a wonky eye that is completely cosmetic, but even in that imperfection he's perfect. He's a loving, sweet, healthy little guy & he completely acclimated to our Orlando Cat Cafe alumni, Bart (now Reznor). They take the most severe cases & are a no-kill Shelter. That's a lot of responsibility for a shelter to ensure the animals go to the right homes. Yes their pricing is more expensive but who can place a price on good care for the animals & the responsible vetting to make sure they go to a forever home? Our cost was the same as Bart from the Orlando Cat Cafe - it was $150, but I am confident of the care they put into Big Red. It was worth every penny & I know it will go towards that awesome campus & medical care & shelter for the animals. I will always recommend them if you want to see the true nature of your future pet & ensure they are a perfect fit for your family.
