A brand new facility for this charity and perfectly designed for what they do! When you walk in to volunteer you'll go through the 'soap history' walk and it's really neat! They cover soap making from it's conception to now and how they're using it to help out locally and abroad. This charity takes gently used soaps and other toiletries and recycles them. They work with hundreds of hotels to collect those little soaps and bottles that are hardly used. From there they recycle the plastic bottles, clean and sanitize the bar soaps and create hygiene kits. Some of the product is circulated back into the community to assist homeless or displaced persons. Other items are sent to third world countries to help combat disease. This facility is huge and has all the right set ups to quickly and efficiently abolish their accomplish. We have been doing volunteer events with them for years and look forward to many more in this new location! Overreach: A+ A wonderful new facility to accommodate this amazing charity!

UPDATE: Pictured is the event I organized here with the Nova Southeastern University Physician Assistant Program in a Orlando. Fifty seven PA Trainees took a few hours out of their very busy schedule to come help out at CTW. ---------- Original Review: I've been volunteering for Clean the World off and on for several years now, and it's a great organization. They take bath products from hotels around the country that would otherwise be thrown away after the guests have left and recycle them. Liquids and bottles are converted into hygiene kits, and soap bars are cleaned up, melted down, made a new bars, and shipped out to places without access to them. This, coupled with hand hygiene education, has saved millions of lives around the world since their inception. In addition, these products are getting used rather than going directly to a dumpster and landfill. This is also one of the few volunteering opportunities that are appropriate for younger kids.

Sadly due to the pandemic, I haven't been able to volunteer as much as I have in the past, but thanks to Clean the World, I got to do good in the comfort of my own home. I was excited to learn that they now will send you a hygiene making kit that can be completed at home and shipped back to them at no cost to you. It was super easy and fun to do with my 6 year old niece. If you are looking for a safe volunteer opportunity, I would highly recommend checking out their website for more information!

This might sound crazy but I had FUN volunteering here! After almost three hours to sorting through mini shampoo bottles, I couldn't believe how fast the time passed. Clean The World is a charitable organization that helps recycle soap, shampoo, and hair conditioner so that hotel mini toiletries can be cleansed and repackaged for parts of the world where these types of products are scarce for the general population. In a touristy place like Central Florida with so many hotels, you can imagine how many places have left over soap bars and bottles of shampoo/conditioner that might have been used once, if at all. Clean The World collects these items and sorts through them to make newly packaged hygiene kits for people with limited access to these basic supplies. This keeps people clean and helps with waste of products and recycling of containers. You can come volunteer here to sort through the abundant amount of supplies to help this organization accomplish their mission. The process is wearing rubber gloves and sorting through bottles to make sure the items are reusable and discarding damaged items. Other duties included sorting mini soap bars and grouping like items, boxing, and counting. The staff here are great, they explained the charity's mission and showed us the finished products that go to underprivileged parts of the world. The stories were very heartwarming about families and kids that were excited to receive soap as a gift. It really makes you appreciate when you reflect that others are happy just to receive soap! I understand Clean The World needs volunteers all the time, so try it out if you have some free time on your hands. It feels nice to help.

    Sorting soaps in the warehouse

Clean the World is an easy group or individual volunteer opportunity in Orlando. The organization basically takes in travel sized soaps from hotels and recycles them. How does one volunteer here? It's a simple concept as well: sign up in advance through their website, show up, and stand there for a couple hours and sort soaps in their warehouse. They have weekday opportunities, but the Saturday opportunities fill up fast. I volunteered here in mid April, and they said the Saturdays were booked until June. The sorting can be a little monotonous, so they recently built in a fun game of trivia. Overall, the operation is very organized and it's a great way to spend a couple hours volunteering.

Clean the World, Inc. is an Orlando-based charitable organization (501(c)(3) non-profit. Their goal is huge, but the solution is so very simple: save the millions of lives lost each year to acute lower-respiratory infection and diarreal illness by distributing recycled soap and promoting proper personal hygiene practices. They are the world's first, high volume soap recycler. I love when organizations find a mission and the solution is one that makes you go "well yeah, that makes sense, how come that's not happening everywhere?" This is one of those organizations. I learned about it last year and was blown away by the courtesy and kindness of the staff. There are three Clean the World recycling operation centers one of which is based here in Orlando and the other two: Las Vegas, and Toronto, Ontario. Additional collection and recycling facilities are coming soon. They have various Hospitality Partners and work with them on educating their staff on the soap and shampoo Recycling Program. They then provide bins which housekeeping staff uses to deposits collected soap and they are picked up weekly. The soap is taken to our Soap Recycling plant, where it is then put through a sanitization process and the best part is, you can volunteer to help with this process. They hold workshops for volunteers to donate their time to help clean and organize the products to get ready for distribution! You can also donate soap to the cause. Check out all of the volunteer opps here: http://cleantheworld.org/volunteer.asp They also host local events to raise awareness and money: http://www.cleantheworld.org/events.asp So happy to say they are based in Orlando and I can personally help!

This is where your used soap left in hotels goes to be repurposed.

What an amazing organization! And what a simple concept- simply showing children how to wash their hands and providing them with the hygienic supplies that we all take for granted every day prevents the spread of acute respiratory infections and diarrheal diseases, which is a huge cause of death of children around the world. A friend and I signed up to volunteer through Hands on Orlando, which is an awesome volunteer network (www.handsonorlando.com). We didn't really know what we would be doing, but when we arrived and saw the huge bins of soaps and bottles we knew we would be in for some kind of sorting. What's super cool about this organization is that not only are they helping to save lives, but they are helping to keep waste out of landfills. The soaps and shampoos, shower gels, etc. are collected from hotels, who would normally just toss the half used items. I will not feel guilty next time I use those little products, now that I know they don't just end up in the landfills! Our job on this day was to sort through the donated shampoos and keep the bottles that were 80 percent full. The bottles that were broken or less than 80 percent full were thrown into a bin and will be recycled. Nothing is wasted. The bottles that are full will be assembled in to care packs and passed out to homeless folks here in our communities. The volunteer coordinators were so much fun and enthusiastic, getting everyone pumped up and playing music. This is definitely a cause I support, and I plan to be back again real soon to help out.

Clean the world is a non profit that takes used soaps from hotels and recycles them into fresh bars for underprivileged parts of the world. Basically, they collect the soap from hotels and bring it to the warehouse. Volunteers clean the soap, then it goes to a processing plant where they sterilize it and reshape it into new bars. As a cleaning the soap volunteer, you take a potato peeler and remove the leftovers (ie hairs and dirt) from the surface of the soap. It's actually really easy but a little gross (I gagged twice but some of the nastier hairs). They give you gloves and they have some masks. There were about 80 people volunteering the day I went. We processed approx. 16,000 bars of soap! In less than 3 hours! Insane! They need about 1000 volunteers a month and they only average about 500 now. So you can help out!

I used to volunteer a lot, then got out of it as I got older, and was happy to have volunteering put in the forefront of the news with Disney. I knew the volume of people signing up for events, and was pleasantly surprised when I painted a house with Hands On Orlando. The day consisted of painting four houses, with 100 volunteer expected. The HOO coordinator was very organized, arrived early and was very friendly. There was a HOO coordinator for each house, and one who monitored the whole project. They were very clear in their directions, and made a very humid day painting a house in not a great neighbor hood a great experience. Being an annual passholder for Disney, I wasn't worried about the processing time for the receipt of the Disney voucher, and yet it was in my email by Tuesday. Its kind of sad, the coordinator said that the month before, for the same event they had only twenty volunteers, and now all their events are full. While we appreciate all the Disney is doing to help communities, I sure wish more people would volunteer without having to be bribed, and I can't wait til we do it again!

I was also a captain for Hands on Nashville Day, where we painted and spruced up a local high school, and even helped out at the animal shelter a few times. When I moved back to O-town I was super excited to find a local Hands On chapter. There is truly something for everyone here. Whether you like to work with your hands and get dirty, or just sit and hang out with some at-risk kids, or play with the puppies and kitties at the local shelter, Hands on Orlando has a huge network of opportunities, linking you with others who share your passions and organizations that run on the support of volunteers. To sing up, they keep things super simple. Log on to www.handsonorlando.com, create an account, then click on the calendar, and click on the event you wish to volunteer for. A quick sign up and print off of the waiver (or your coordinator can give you one at the time of the event), and you are good to go! The volunteer coordinators are super fun and work well with the organizations to ensure a smooth-flowing but fun volunteer experience. Since I've been back in Orlando, I have had the pleasure of volunteering with Coalition for the Homeless, Clean the World, and even the City of Casselberry through Hands on Orlando. This is a great way to get to know all the awesome local groups that take care of our community. I encourage everyone to find at least one Saturday morning a month to give back in 2015!

We toured the facilities, the workshops, we actually sat down for some demos from the visual arts department, and then gathered around a kiln for a raku ceramics demo, which was ideal on a cold winter afternoon (winter in Florida?). Also, we were able to visit the gallery, which was hosting a photograph exhibit on the history of turn of the century Lake Apopka, about 40 miles away due West, and that was very interesting and enlightening. We also printed a poster, among other things. Personally, I think it was fun to talk/meet some of the faculty, not that I am immediately looking for a new teacher, but it is good to pick one who has some similarities, or none at all. Challenge yourself. After this visit, I will consider taking some classes here. Or come to more events. I really like Crealdé.
