What I noticed the most about this place is that the staff is incredibly friendly as well as the customers. There's a friendly atmosphere and customers interact. You have to be lucky with what they have but the best deals are on produce. It is a little messy and some fruits were rotten. But we got a lot of items for only $23! read more

I heard about the Outreach Center from my step-sister yesterday. She had just come from it with three large bags of fruit and veggies all for $8. She told me before I went that it's for low income families with no frills but anyone can shop there. So I went to check it out. From what I could tell, what they have comes from other businesses and may have some cosmetic damage to the packaging. Not a big deal. I often get things in a clearance section like that. Lots of name brand groceries mixed with non-name brands. Barely organized into sections. But again, no frills. Everything has prices on the front, but there were some signs taped up with specials. Like a whole pack of cheese for 99 cents. The veggies were pretty picked over by the time I got there. They only had pumpkins, spaghetti squash and jalapeño peppers. My step-sister was able to get regular squash, apples and strawberries. They also were offering a free loaf of bread to families in need. I thought that was nice. read more

Let me first say that the concept of this place is excellent. But I don't think it's healthy or legal for places to sell expired food to food stamp recipients. Sometimes it smells so bad in there that we walk in and walk right back out. The prices are really good on some products but then again they are expired and considered trash to the stores that donated their waste. The thrift store nextdoor was AWESOME when Jason was there... now the prices are ridiculously high for people who qualify to shop there....key word is that you have to have a low income to even shop there. I don't know what happened or why they had to change employees but I used to love going in there... now it just makes me sad to see discards being sold for so much money. read more

Thank goodness for this place. They are life savers. It took less than 10 minutes for membership approval. Just needed my last pay stub. They were bringing in product stock all day long. Products seem to be donations from reputable places. For the same cost of shopping at a regular grocery store, you will get 3x as much. This is a community outreach so don't expect to find exactly what you want. I was able to get hygiene products, some produce, meats, and dry goods. The philosophy of this agency is changing the way social services are provided. It's model of sustainable enterprise to support its programs and two-way giving exchange provides all of us a dignified hand up when we need it. Traditional service delivery of hand outs rarely have long-term impact and often do more harm then good. Good intentions must provide equal respect between the provider and the person receiving services. This agency is not territorial but instead invites other non-profits to provide services at the site. With over 500 people visiting every day, multiple providers make it easier to have needs addressed without having to travel all over Central FL. In addition to its cost-share grocery program (started in 2003), its employment and education programs, and case management support, it also houses a DCF ACCESS site, with 16 computers available if you need SNAP benefits, the Orange Blossom Family Health Center for affordable health care, Harbor House for those struggling with domestic violence and Aspire Health Partners for those in need of substance abuse and mental health services. The agency cannot provide the level of services without the help of volunteers. Whether you want to greet members in the grocery program, stock shelves, bag groceries, assist with computer access or greet folks coming in for crisis services, there is always a need for support. I volunteered at the CFO Center and got to see what a great organization it is. I encourage anyone to call them and go in for a few hours. It isn't a place for a hand-out but rather a helping hand, so needed for people to get on their feet again. The Cost Share grocery store allows a person to feed his/her family at an affordable price while getting on track, and allows them to know they are still actively providing - invaluable for self-worth needed to press on and move past that vulnerable stage. This, I believe, is the essence of CFOC. Your time volunteering there will help them reach those goals. read more

Community Food and Outreach Center is a wonderful organization, that offers so many resources to the residents of Orlando. In addition to the Cost Share Grocery Program, CFOC has an on-site thrift store, a clinic, case management, and life development center on it's campus. I have volunteered in their grocery store and I loved it! The staff was so friendly and helpful, and the people who shopped there could not be nicer! I definitely plan on volunteering again, and in different areas of the campus. There are so many ways to get involved, and they are always looking for volunteers! I would encourage anyone who is looking to get involved, or who wants to be apart of something positive in the community to volunteer at CFOC! read more

For someone like me who takes pride in working for all I have, at times, it's hard to ask for help. Community Food and Outreach was there for me when I was out of work for a month due to surgery and needed help with food. They have you attend a small class in something before you can get a food bag, which is nice since they are "a hand up, not a hand down". They are there to get you back on your feet. They had me sign up for a Cost Share Membership card, the Cost Share is a store on site that sells excess food from stores and catering companies on the cheap, mostly food that is set to expire or boxes that are dinged up. They also offer free bread with your purchase. You need to meet certain requirements to qualify and the process to get the membership is fairly easy. They are very friendly and the location is on the bus 40 line. They also have a thrift store on site and other health and human services as well. If you ever find yourself down on your luck, this is your place. read more

This is a wonderful resource here in Central Florida and an organization that is accomplishing great things! What really sets this place apart is that they are looking to build sustainable change in the community. The center has a number of programs to help individuals and families get back on their feet including life enrichment, job training and GED classes, as well as a cost-share grocery store where individuals can purchase groceries at discounted prices. If you are looking for a way to give back to our community, this is the place to volunteer! I have volunteered at CFOC many times and I can say firsthand that the people you meet here are some of the kindest and friendliest around.
