If you are looking to make a difference in the community, I highly suggest donating your time at A Gift For Teaching. I have been there several times and really enjoy volunteering there. From helping teachers shop, to unboxing and hanging donations, or sorting supplies, there truly is something for everyone, The employees are always so friendly and the energy is always positive and upbeat because we are all there for a common goal. Check it out!

Beautiful building, so clean and organized - really a teachers dream! They literally give everything away FOR FREE to teachers and students in schools that cannot afford it. What a great organization to support and rally behind! They are completely donation based and although they serve hundreds of local schools in several counties, they only have 8 staff members and rely mostly on volunteers. If you are in the area, stop in and see how you can help. I will be back, how could you not want to be involved! I was truly impressed with their organized, HUGE, warehouse and store experience. So clean!

A gift for teaching is an AMAZING non-profit. They are helping the kids who need it the most and every time I walk out the door after a volunteer shift, I really know that I am making a difference! As a volunteer, I always have an amazing time. I have met some of the most wonderful people who work there and those who also help volunteer. We have an amazing time stocking the free store, cleaning up, and helping out the teachers who get to shop. It is totally easy to sign up. All you have to do is fill out the volunteer application online and they call you to set up times to volunteer. Organizations come through all the time as well...Disney, Sea World, and Universal are always there helping out. I look forward to my next volunteer shift!!!

A Gift for Teaching is a non-profit, retail store for teachers in Orange, Seminole and Osceola Counties. If you teach at a school that has more than 60% of it's students receiving free or reduced lunch, you are eligible to "shop" for free at AGFT. If your school doesn't fall within those guidelines, you can still volunteer three hours a month to receive a free shopping trip. When I first started teaching, I thought this was simply too good to be true. If you work at a Title I (low-income) school, you know that it can be trying and frustrating when your students are unable to bring in simple school supplies. Well, a Gift for Teaching strives to alleviate some of this stress. Depending on your school's status (you can give them a call and check) you may be eligible to shop up to twice a month. When you go in, they give you clipboard with a list of what you are allowed to "purchase." It includes 30 line-items ranging from pencils to hardcover books. All of the items are donated from local businesses (anyone from Sea World to Marriott Hotels), so the actual items there vary depending on when you visit. The cool thing is that you are allowed to pick a few of each item and that only counts as one "line item" on the clipboard list. For example, you can get 10 erasers... and that would only count as one of your 30 items. Fabulous, eh? AGFT usually has clothing, socks and underwear if you have students that are needing these items also. It is sad to think that some of our students need these things... but the reality is that they DO and we are hard-pressed to find the money to buy them out of our pockets! The best part of this whole experience is that it is competely FREE. All that the staff at AGFT ask is that you have your students make thank you cards or write a letter to the vendors. They give you a list of their names and addresses when you check out. AGFT is a charitable and amazing program and I encourage you to visit if you are a teacher. If you're not, and you work for a local business that might be able to help this great program out - please give them a call!

Went to a Yelp Helps volunteer event here. Amazing organization! This nonprofit partners directly with teachers that have students in need providing them with free classroom essentials. The warehouse and free store were great to see. Teachers can also shop online or from the mobile shop at certain schools. A Gift for Teaching is is truly a gift to the community. I will be back to volunteer and donate!

Didn't know this nonprofit existed until a volunteer event with Yelp Orlando. Blown away by their mission of providing teachers in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties with school supplies for their underprivileged students. Would recommend for groups to volunteer here and to donate office supplies as well as make monetary donations.

Since I work at such an impoverished school, all teachers at my school are able to shop at AGFT once a month.

I used to volunteer a lot, then got out of it as I got older, and was happy to have volunteering put in the forefront of the news with Disney. I knew the volume of people signing up for events, and was pleasantly surprised when I painted a house with Hands On Orlando. The day consisted of painting four houses, with 100 volunteer expected. The HOO coordinator was very organized, arrived early and was very friendly. There was a HOO coordinator for each house, and one who monitored the whole project. They were very clear in their directions, and made a very humid day painting a house in not a great neighbor hood a great experience. Being an annual passholder for Disney, I wasn't worried about the processing time for the receipt of the Disney voucher, and yet it was in my email by Tuesday. Its kind of sad, the coordinator said that the month before, for the same event they had only twenty volunteers, and now all their events are full. While we appreciate all the Disney is doing to help communities, I sure wish more people would volunteer without having to be bribed, and I can't wait til we do it again!

I was also a captain for Hands on Nashville Day, where we painted and spruced up a local high school, and even helped out at the animal shelter a few times. When I moved back to O-town I was super excited to find a local Hands On chapter. There is truly something for everyone here. Whether you like to work with your hands and get dirty, or just sit and hang out with some at-risk kids, or play with the puppies and kitties at the local shelter, Hands on Orlando has a huge network of opportunities, linking you with others who share your passions and organizations that run on the support of volunteers. To sing up, they keep things super simple. Log on to www.handsonorlando.com, create an account, then click on the calendar, and click on the event you wish to volunteer for. A quick sign up and print off of the waiver (or your coordinator can give you one at the time of the event), and you are good to go! The volunteer coordinators are super fun and work well with the organizations to ensure a smooth-flowing but fun volunteer experience. Since I've been back in Orlando, I have had the pleasure of volunteering with Coalition for the Homeless, Clean the World, and even the City of Casselberry through Hands on Orlando. This is a great way to get to know all the awesome local groups that take care of our community. I encourage everyone to find at least one Saturday morning a month to give back in 2015!

We toured the facilities, the workshops, we actually sat down for some demos from the visual arts department, and then gathered around a kiln for a raku ceramics demo, which was ideal on a cold winter afternoon (winter in Florida?). Also, we were able to visit the gallery, which was hosting a photograph exhibit on the history of turn of the century Lake Apopka, about 40 miles away due West, and that was very interesting and enlightening. We also printed a poster, among other things. Personally, I think it was fun to talk/meet some of the faculty, not that I am immediately looking for a new teacher, but it is good to pick one who has some similarities, or none at all. Challenge yourself. After this visit, I will consider taking some classes here. Or come to more events. I really like Crealdé.

I will be contacting the correct state department for this. This is extremely unprofessional and clearly lacks clarity. If your policy is outdated, correct it on the website. I've attached the policy as a picture.
