This rescue imposes unnecessarily burdensome and discriminatory requirements on disabled and elderly adopters. After approving our application and after I personally spent over 30 minutes meeting the dogs, they insisted that my partially disabled wife travel a 2.5‑hour round trip so a medically untrained volunteer could "evaluate" whether she might fall on a dog. That person would then report their impressions to a committee for final approval. I am fully mobile and would be the primary caregiver for the dogs. My wife simply wanted companionship. No other rescue in our 20 years of adopting dogs has ever required this kind of intrusive and medically unqualified assessment, nor have they refused to offer reasonable accommodation such as a home visit. This process effectively penalizes disabled applicants and creates barriers that are unnecessary, inappropriate, and discriminatory in practice. For an adoption fee of $600, adopters deserve a respectful, professional, and accommodating process. Until they revise these policies or offer a reasonable alternative, this review stands. Apparently the concept of service or companion animals for the elderly or partially handicapped is beyond the capacity of this rescue. The owner was hospitalized and the fabrication that the dog was wandering the street and not surrendered by the person who was supposed to be boarding them is harmful and out right wrong. Don't waste your time with this judgmental place. They would not let me adopt an animal even though I've been approved at other places. I am not finding a dog with the other rescues I'm working with and found one at Forever Home... LORI - the judgmental owner didn't even take time to call me to let me know I was not approved. She has preconceived notions about me and if you read through other reviews on not only here but other social media you will see what people say about her unprofessionalism. Not that I have to defend myself to her - I had extenuating circumstances and worked directly with a humane society when I had to make the difficult decision to rehome TWO dogs I could not take care of when I had a broken ankle. It was the last option for me - to rehome my pets I had for over seven years, but after weeks of boarding and knowing they would be better off rehomed - I made that decision. These were purebred dogs I paid over $3,000 each for. Rescues in the area were full and we found someone who had just lost two of the same breed that I owned and they would not foster but wanted to take custody. So this place would rather see me pay to purchase a dog from a breeder - which is what we'll probably do if the other rescues I'm working with don't have a breed that would fit into my lifestyle. Note: I've worked for animal hospitals and have also worked with local rescues on reporting abused animals. One of my references even works with a rescue. At least I was honest about why I had to rehome them - I guess I should have kept them and let them suffer in my home because I could not navigate stairs to take them out with a broken ankle. This organization is diligent about dotting i's and crossing t's with the adoption process but getting vet records ... not so easy. If possible, invest in having your own vet check the animal BEFORE paying the adoption fee. read more

They gave away my friend's emotional support dog while she was in the ICU. I'm writing this as a heartbroken and outraged friend of Liz, whose dog Sushi was taken from her while she was hospitalized in the ICU--intubated and fighting for her life after a cardiac arrest. During that time, a family member she has no contact with entered her family home and took her dog without permission. Sushi was turned in to Osceola County Animal Services on April 19, 2025, and later transferred to A Forever Home Animal Rescue on April 26. Sushi is microchipped to Liz. He's been her certified emotional support animal since 2021. When Liz called A Forever Home Animal Rescue, they lied and said Sushi had been "found in the street"--he wasn't. He was stolen from her home. Then they laughed at her and said "good luck" before hanging up. This is how they treat people? This is how they treat someone with proof of ownership, with legal ESA documentation, who just came out of the hospital? They are knowingly holding onto someone else's dog and ignoring her calls. They know she's the rightful owner, and they just don't care. It's not just heartbreaking--it's cruel. Please, if you care about integrity, compassion, or the safety of animals and their people, do not support this organization. What they've done is inexcusable. read more

Our pup, Izzie, was very ill and they went to extraordinary lengths to bring her back to a healthy girl. It was obvious to us that the staff knew each dog and genuinely cared for them and their wellbeing. We are so appreciative of everything the rescue team did for Izzie and for us...their dedication, kindness and commitment to the dogs and to the folks wanting to adopt is everything that anyone could hope for!! We filled out an application and sent a text the day before visiting as we were so excited to find a dog who was a great fit for our family. Unfortunately we hadn't read the reviews before informing our Son we were going to look at a puppy the following day. When we arrived, we were overwhelmed by the ammonia/urine odors but persisted as they had just opened and the gentleman who greeted us seemed nice enough. He brought out each of the 2 dogs we were interested in adopting and gave us ample time to get to know them. We settled on one and were told they would review our application and reach out by Tuesday (this was on a Saturday). One of our references confirmed they reached out to her and then we never heard anything further. No courtesy call to inform us of their decision either way. I would recommend avoiding this place unless you have time to waste and enjoy the powerful scent of ammonia and urine. read more

This rescue has a wonderful staff and wonderful volunteers. They work so hard and the dogs are loved and cared for! The work they do is endless and I don't think folks realize all that goes into a rescue. They rescue from high kill shelters and it is sad to think what would happen if this rescue was not here. They have saved thousands of dogs and they do an excellent job of finding the dogs their forever homes. It is mind blowing all the great work they do! They take in small dogs, large dogs, puppies, seniors, special needs, etc. If they have the space, they will not turn away a dog. I love their hearts and love the adopter's hearts. I have fostered dogs and they are really caring. I have seen the facilities and it is very clean, and the dogs have lots of space.

Tried to adopt a dog and they denied us because we said we would use a crate to keep them in if we had to leave them alone. I had to call multiple times to get this info as apparently they were not going to tell us. They said we should be locking a dog in the bathroom or kitchen if we needed to leave them home alone. That to me is very dangerous because I have seen dogs injure themselves trying to claw out of a room. The place stunk so bad and the 2 puppies we saw were covered in poop. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! This is not a rescue. My mom got a dog from here and thank god she did because the level of neglect shown to him and all the dogs there is nothing short of inhumane. My mom went straight to the vet and her little guy (on top of being blind and deaf) has two tumors and a kidney infection that was left untreated. He will most likely be put down. I am glad my mom was able to get him out of there to at least make his last few days comfortable. We, along with the vet my mom took him to, have reported this place for animal cruelty. We went in at noon when they opened, the guy let us in man of few words and very sarcastic. The place reaped of urine so bad that i had to fill my application outside it was sooo strong. Richard told me "he didnt have time to show me more than 1 dog." Told me fill out the application and view dogs online, he did bring out 1 puppy she was white and brown but was so dirty that we couldnt enjoy her wirhout wiping her down with baby wipes 1st(poopy paws, fur soaked in urine) never the less we loved Quila, and was interested in her and seeing others. Once we filled out the app he looked at it and said call on Tuesday then said oh you put crate training down we dont do that to our dogs, app. Denied i thought he was playing then when i looked at his face i saw he wasnt i said didnt you just pull her from a filthy crate, no way on earth would my dog smell, feel or look the way poor quila did. Gonna look at calling heath dept. As he brought the dog out who knows what is going on behind those doors, and he kept locking us in the office to go outside to smoke cigarettes. Poor pups read more

Lori is the best example of a human being, serving this world to make it a better place. Please keep an open mind when you visit her rescue. She and her volunteers work extremely hard to provide a safe place to foster small dogs/puppies, until placing them in good homes.
