I have been going to Lake Vet Clinic for many years, and I am genuinely disappointed with how things have changed since they became more corporate. I normally do not write negative reviews, but my experiences have been consistently frustrating, and today was the last straw. Back in November, I brought my dog in for his phenobarbital bloodwork, and I was told multiple different instructions; first that it had to be done at a certain time, then that I had to bring him back hours later. As a healthcare provider with a demanding schedule, this created unnecessary disruption, but I still tried to be understanding. Today, I arrived for another scheduled appointment, only to be told after sitting there from 8:06 to 8:45 that he did not actually need his phenobarbital levels checked until next month. If that was the case, why did the front desk schedule the appointment in the first place? My time, energy, and travel should not be wasted due to internal miscommunication. To make matters worse, I was also told today that my dog had not had his annual labs since 2023. That shocked me because I have been coming here consistently, and no one has ever mentioned this before. Hearing that in 2026 makes me question how closely they have actually been monitoring his care. If they are at "full capacity" or overwhelmed, then clients deserve transparency and not to discover years later that something so basic was overlooked. What pushed this experience into unacceptable territory was the manager's response. Instead of approaching the situation as professional an educational opportunity or even showing concern, his posture and body language made it clear he did not care. No ownership. He simply said that if we're "not lining up," maybe I should find another vet. I have never encountered an office manager so dismissive of legitimate questions and concerns. If this is how issues are addressed, I can only imagine how many other clients are dealing with the same inconsistencies. Veterinary care should be grounded in communication, accuracy, and genuine compassion for both the animals and their owners. The lack of consistency here makes you question the level of attention being paid to diagnoses and treatment. I've been going to Lake Vet clinic since Dr Weber started in 1996. Dr Weber, and Dr Pryor have retired, and new vets with a new business model have taken over. I made an 8am appointment. I arrived at 7:45am to find 8 people lined up at the door unaware that this business takes appointments now. Staff opened door at 8am, and went thru the 8 people in front of me, none of whom had appointments. The front desk finally got to me at 8:15 for my info. I waited until 8:30am for my 8am appointment. The tech took me back, and asked why I was there. Annual shots for my dogs who are otherwise healthy. She said "I'll be back with a price." She left for a few minutes, and came back with an estimate of $400 per pet. $800 for annual shots is gratuitous. The previous business model was good care with reasonable prices. I will not be back. I suggest Misfit Clinic in Tavares for annual shots, and if you need reasonable Vet care I suggest Park Avenue pet hospital in Apopka. read more

I brought my dog into the Lake VC PA office in Mt Dora during normal office hours because he was limping, but the veterinarian on duty wasn't able to find anything wrong with him and gave me a $50 bill and 3 gabapentin pills for my time After his limp persisted (and worsened) I took him to urgent care the following day (Sunday) in Orlando and they found that he had partially tore one of his claws off! It's fairly clear the vet at Lake VC PA didn't make much of an effort to examine him. Also, because I had to bring him in to after-hours urgent care I had to pay a premium for the care: over $500! We love Lake Vet! I've taken all my pets from the classroom guinea pigs that Dr. Pryor saw to my little dogs. dr. Webber and the team of doctors , as well as techs have made sure that my dogs stay healthy and happy. Even in the case of the emergency with Osckar, they took care of him and comforted me. We have gone to Lake Vet for over 17 years and even when I moved to the Tampa area, would drive just for my pets to continue seeing the same team of doctors. We love Lake Vet! read more

What a great bunch of Doctors! Daisy was so sick and the Tavares Animal Hospital wasn't helping her at all. Lake Veterinary Clinic couldn't save her but they make her last few months more comfortable. They handled her so gently and after she was gone we got a sympathy card with her paw prints. This is a place you can count on and not be over charged. Because it's a walk-in you do have to wait a short time. But well worth it. read more

We used to bring our pets here regularly, before we discovered the current place that we go to exclusively now. We didn't have any complaints about this clinic, though the system they use where you check in twice a day and see the vet in the order people arrive sometimes results in huge wait times. It results in some weird scenarios, too. My last time there, as I walked to the front door, a woman parked her vehicle, ran in ahead of me and got in line. Then she asked me to save her place while she went out to her hot vehicle to get her dog. I was not impressed with her effort to beat the system. But in any case, the vets seem knowledgeable and are friendly. The costs were okay, though not quite as good as the non-profit clinic we go to now. read more

once we saw the vet, we were very happy. he was very informative and kind. he didn't try and rush us out and left all the decisions to us to make. the only thing that I didn't like was that we arrived at 7:48 and still waited 3 hours to be seen. horrible, please do not being your animals here unless you wanna watch them die in your own home, while having to bag the body and all that fun stuff the VET SHOULD DO.... yourself. my whole problem with this place is they will never admit your animal is dying and should be put down, but only feed you expensive meds that "might work" in their words. i've brought two animals here and the same thing has happened twice, they never offer to put the animal down, only offer expensive meds, and then my cats dies later that night. long story short this place is taking money from vulnerable people! There is no where else in the world, that I would take my pet to get a check up. I first heard about them from a neighbor and decided to go check them out. It's now been a few years and I have not visited another veterinary clinic since. Their prices for their services are completely reasonable and the staff are very up-front with you about it. The staff is also very nice and helpful! My favorite is Dr. Pryor and Dr. Weber, who have always taken such good care of my pet. The veterinarian techs there have also always made sure to keep me and my pet very comfortable. The number one tip I would give is that you DEFINITELY should get here at least a couple hours before they open, if you do not want to wait for hours at a time. Even before they open at 8, there are at least 10-15 people waiting in line already. They are under a first-come, first-serve basis so they do not take appointments, unless it is for a major procedure. The normal wait time is approximately 1-2 hours, but you could be waiting up to 3+ hours if they're really busy! read more

I was extremely pleased and grateful for Dr. Smith and her staff at Lake Veterinary Clinic. From the minute I walked in until I checked out, I felt that they truly cared for my sweet Mittens. She had not being feeling well for a few days and as I waited to see if she felt better, our family decided that we needed to take her in to get a diagnosis to make sure we knew what to do to get her feeling like herself. They were able to do lab work and give me the results within 15 minutes, as well as have a treatment plan for her viral infection. Before we left, they gave her fluids for dehydration and a follow up antibiotic medicine for home. And now we are hopeful that she would bounce back and continue to be as happy as always. I couldn't be more pleased with this vet office. The prices alone would make me choose them above anyone else. I went to another vet recently and had a good experience, but they were triple the cost of Lake Vet. My vet was great, it was Dr. Oakes. He took care of my whole litter of puppies and was super gentle and loving. We also loved Donna. She was quirky and fun to hang out in the room with until the doctor came in. The only drawback of this clinic is that they don't take appointments. If you want to be one of the first seen then you should arrive at least an hour before they open. My suggestion would be to come on Thursdays. They don't do surgeries on this day and they are only open til noon (they see all check-ins before leaving). The last time to check in is at 10:30. I would suggest checking in then because the line has typically slowed down, ask for an estimated wait time, and then go home and grab your pet. This was great for me since I had 7 puppies that I was going to be wresting with. Definitely plan on being here for 2-3 hours but know you will be saving hundreds. I called 5 surrounding vet offices and I saved $600-$800 by coming here. And, they love your pets and the community. It doesn't get any better! read more

I took my sick kitten here. When I got back into a room the doctor seemed very irritated and did not like my kitten for no reason. I feel like I got unfair treatment. They didn't diagnose anything just gave me antibiotics and said it was enough doses for 10 days but really it was only enough for 7. I did not even get everything they charged me for. They did not tell me or show me to administer the antibiotics, I was just left to my own to guess. All of this happened in less than 15 minutes; seemed like they just wanted me in and out. On top of all of this 10 days later I'm in the Veterinary Emergency Clinic because my kitten is now sneezing blood. I hope in the future they act like they actually care. read more

Have been here multiple times when the extra drive was convenient for me. Very professional. They have always done their best to take care of the influx of people with pets on busy days. A big group of people that don't carry the attitude like the typical doctor for humans. I had to put Rock down today and they all worked so well with me to accommodate us both. The reason they get 2 stars is because they have gone down hill in service. Don't get you scheduled for important things like cleaning a dogs teeth. They now charge an office call for hours of waiting. The biggest reason I went to the clinic is because there was no fee for an office visit. If anyone could recommend a good vet that you could actually schedule an appointment with I need one. My 5 year old hound mix has problems with his skin that are not resolved. Ongoing issues. Have to wait weeks to get his teeth cleaned. I don't know what to do. The office staff are nice but the vets are just ok. They will do in a pinch. read more

We love Lake Vet. We went here for several years when they were still at their old location. I got married and my husband took the animals to Eustis Animal Hospital but it became so incredibly expensive that we recently switched back to Lake Vet and we couldn't be happier. Great staff. Uneducated doctors. thank god I got a second and third opinion or my dog probably wouldn't be here today. Misdiagnosed and mistreated for years! Finally after being in the waiting room and hearing other people complain to staff about their dogs or cats being misdiagnosed by these doctors I decided to get a second and third opinion to make sure the second opinion was reliable. They had misdiagnosed my dog and claimed she needed medication for something which she never needed the medicine. I'm sure they did this because they are a free clinic and make their money off of their medications and tests. The illness that they claimed she had cost me $80 every few weeks to check on the "progression of her illness" plus the $15 a month in medication plus she kept getting sick and was in pain because of the medication for this "illness" was unnecessary medication for her poor little body and was making her gain weight and feel funny. So ridiculous that they think this is ok. Then when you call to complain the office manager laughs at u and tells you she can't help you she'll try to have the doctor call you... read more
