I am a purely recreational target archer. I enjoy "shootin' some" with my kids. I had a friendly, highly informed bow and arrow purchase at Hoffman. While there, a line of customers (Dads and kids, serious hunters, hunters resuming after a layoff ) was managed informally yet with respect and appropriate information on tap when needed. I brought my bow that I was not very happy with after another shop serviced it. I went to Hoffman's shop, and told them what was happening. They tuned up the bow, and also helped me with some form. I drove well over an hour to get to this shop, and I will return for any of my archery needs. Their prices were less than most of the other stores I've been to as well. Farron and Crew, Thank you so much for your help this season! I bought a BlackGold Ascent single pin sight from you right before the season started (I do not know the young man who set me up with the sight). I was able to get my sight sighted in and refined out to 40 yds in only 30 minutes. I appreciate the advice and work you all do to make sure we can perform out best in the field. Using this sight, I was fortunate to harvest two does and thought my season was going pretty good. Then I accidentally knocked by bow out of the tree, breaking my sight in three pieces. I needed to make sure my bow was in still functioning order so I brought it by your shop and after a thorough inspection and test fire it got the green light by Farron. BlackGold is absolute the best in my book. In about 10 or less days, I got my sight back in. BlackGold set it up so all I had to do was put it back on my bow, which I did and then got sighted in again. Took my bow in for a cam replacement. When they called to let me know it was ready, they said they just replaced the cam. When I showed up they had replaced the string and cables without my permission. This is the second time they have replaced my string without asking. Ridiculous. They also lost 2 of my arrows that needed to be refletched. read more

Farron and team: Couple years ago I stopped into the shop at closing time and more than two hours later Carl was putting my new bow together. The customer service is fantastic. Went in today to get new strings, this weekend is opening of archery deer season so I expected that I would be asked to leave the bow - but that didn't happen. A young associate starting working on it right away. A few minutes later Farron looked it over, made a couple teaching points with his staff and personally fired it numerous times. I bought a Matthews VXR for a terrific price including all the furniture and was even given lessons to improve my lack of proper form. So Hubby was given a crossbow to get some hunting in on our property, but we needed a few accessories and wanted to make sure the bow was sighted in properly. Although this store is fairly small, they've packed a lot in. The staff was incredibly knowledgable and helpful. Hubby will definitely use them again! They are really nice and eager to help you. But... they are not so open-minded. They are biased, there are certain brands that they hate. I asked them to pick arrows for my recurve, they picked me the ones that designed for heavier bow weight. Obviously when being used with less heavy bow, the arrows were so stiff to hit where they were supposed to (they flew leftward or rightward). My coach said 1816 spine arrows would be more suitable for my bow. I told them so and they laughed at me with contempt and said that my teacher was wrong and they refused to give me further advice. As a beginner, I was very confused. I went online to forums and called to talk to experts on Lancaster and 3 Rivers and Cabelas sites, and they all told me my teacher was right, the guys at the shop were wrong. However, they were nice to offer refund anyway. In all, they are very nice but at the same time they are like a separate school of archery, they have their own style and won't listen to anybody else's opinion. They will help you for sure, but for the best result, ask around before you decide to purchase anything. read more

I bought a new bow only to find it came lacking an arrow rest or nock installed. I was delighted to find a store dedicated to archery within 35 miles that wasn't a chain sporting good store, so I emailed them to see if they could install a rest and nock and if so how much. A day or two later I got a response saying that's something they could help me with, but they didn't answer the "how much" part of the question so I replied asking again with no response a second time. Next time I'm in the neighborhood during their business hours I'll stop by, but I wasn't going to drive more than 70 miles round trip without knowing what I was getting myself into. If I do and I have a positive experience, I'll up my rating but for now I can only say "OK" due to poor communication. read more

Revised 9/1/2016 Went there a few weeks ago. Dealt with owner which was refreshing. Didn't get the same unbiased opinion as I did with the younger associates I've dealt with in the past. Ferrin was very knowledgable and presented some good options, pros and cons for what I was seeking. -------- Was in the market for a new bow and was told they don't give prices over the phone. Not worth my trip if I don't know what I'm getting into. Ended up buying bow from somewhere else. The times I have been there, was peddled the flavor of the week. They quite often provide strong opinions without having first hand knowledge. Case and point, they were bad mouthing a particular broad head(which I happen to shoot). When I asked how many deer they shot with the broad head, was told none. The opinions were based on hearsay and commercial. Entertaining dialogue, but not my type of archery shop. read more

This review is long over due. Back in 2008 I searched for a new bow for months starting at Hoffman since I live just down the street, I shot everything I came across. When I walked back into Hoffman, Farron and Ryan helped me like I was family, answered ALL of my questions, walked me through everything step by step, and gave me a deal that was absurd. I have been more than happy and satisfied with my bow. The staff is always helpful and willing to teach if you are willing to learn. I have learned a ton of stuff from that shop. Whether you are a seasoned hunter or don't know a thing about archery, this is the place to go. I just got my bow tuned this week, and some extras and walked out of there at about half of what other places quoted me. I visited Hoffman's a couple of years ago with a friend and was very impressed with the customer service and attention I received even though I was not making a purchase. This afternoon I went back to buy a bow five days before bow season started. Even though they were swamped Farron took a great deal of time to build me a bow and Bobbie spent a lot of time teaching me to shoot. I did not leave the store until 50 minutes after they closed, and they just as polite, professional, and patient when I left as they were when I walked in. I am as beginner as it gets when it comes to archery. Because of a progressing medical condition, I must transition from rifle hunting to early season archery (body can't do late winter cold anymore). So, I called the shop and spoke to someone to explain why I was buying a bow and asked what I needed to know. The staff was extremely helpful and advised I come in to shoot several different setups to figure things out better. When I arrived, they were extremely busy with a line to the door, but, I was still greeted by someone to let me know it would be awhile. So, I walked around the shop, looked at some crossbows on display and got a spectator viewing of (i assume the a workers kids) hide and seek around the shop. The shop felt like an inviting place you could certainly bring the family. Eventually I was next and was greeted by the gentleman I spoke with on the phone. Immediately he investigated my limited movement and what I would feel comfortable with. Then right to the shooting bag we went, slinging arrows and going over every detail possible about each crossbow I was shooting. After much discussion, I landed on the Mission 320 crossbow and to the outdoor range we went. Before I left he made sure it was sighted in, I had all of the accessories necessary, knew how everything functioned and was comfortable with my purchase. I received a heck of alot more knowledge than I was expecting. Honestly, I felt so comfortable with my purchase and how I was functioning with it that I could have started some long range shooting right off the bat. Just awesome! I had just moved into the area and was looking for an archery shop to replace my new bow string and cables. After reading online reviews and some of the archery forums I decided to give them an opportunity. I don't mind paying for quality service so I figured I would be better off with a dedicated archery establishment. When I arrived the staff was courteous and although small they seemed to have a nice selection of archery gear. I explained what I needed and they took my order and bow. The price was about $120 and they said they install a new peep sight and would not have any rotation issues, a new d-loop, and tie off my fall-away arrow rest in addition to replacing the string and cables. A few days later I was notified it was ready and picked it up. A couple of days later I had the opportunity to take my bow out shoot it for the first time after I picked it up. I ended up have 4 issues after everything was said and done. After 12 shots I noticed the d-loop was not tied tight enough on the bottom knot and I could slide it up and down...problem number 1. I could still shoot but all the other times I have had my bow done the person working on my bow would ensure there was no play and the d-loop would be just a tad wider then the arrow nock. The d-loop was so poorly done at Hoffman that when I would use my release to pull back I would get severe arrow pinch because the d-loop was sliding on the bottom. Problem number 2 was the d-loop actually broke on my mid pull. Needles to say I was not to happy. I then took some time to really look my bow over and I also noticed they didn't even tie the peep sight in and that was causing me to have to move it after every other shot....Problem number 3. The shop even explained I would never have too worry about their peep moving or rotating...well that proved to be false. With new string there is always some play at first but it was not installed correctly plain and simple. Problem number 4 was when I was shooting I noticed there was no knot tied on the cable end for the string connecting my fall-away rest to the cable. I had to take my bow to another local shop and when they looked the bow over they were surprised how sloppy the work was done and had to correct all the issues mentioned above. I can understand sometimes things happen but with 4 issues after a simple string and cable replacement I would not recommend them. They need to do a much better job with ensuring there quality assurance checks are in place before returning equipment. They also need to make sure individuals working on bows have the appropriate skill set as people like myself are paying money and entrusting their reputation matches their services. read more

I read and heard great things about Hoffman Archery's expertise and excellent customer service so went there yesterday to have my 19 year old daughter's bow set up. Chris worked with her patiently to get the set up dialed in, added a new peep sight and rest and spent a lot of time with her explaining proper technique as well as time with her on the range. I also bought a new bow and package with help from Chris and Farron. They took the time to understand what would work the best for me and steered me to a less expensive bow with more versatility - Mission Hype DT. I can't recommend the staff enough. This is what a full service bow shop should be. As others have stated, the staff is friendly, attentive and extremely knowledgable. Customer service is top notch. I am new to archery- my daughter and I did a couple of 3D shoots at fountainhead and have done some lessons and were ready to get our own gear so we made the trip out to Hoffman from Springfield Va. Bottom line the best customer service I have ever experienced in sporting. Danny came up to me and asked what we needed and from there it was complete customization. We got a compound bow that was in my price range. They did not have a recurve bow that was ideal for my daughter and Farron ordered enough recurve bows for the following weekend to get my daughter dialed in. Danny got my sights dialed in, measured the ideal arrow length, and got my bow draw at the ideal pounds so I could focus on the fundamentals. As Danny was tailoring my bow to me he was teaching and telling me the why and also giving me some solid instruction. We ended the day going outside and shooting the ranges on my sights. I left feeling like I can go back any time with questions or dialing in sights. Hoffman's is the most professional staff I have encountered. Probably the most important thing is I had a lot of fun buying my first bow and look forward to growing in the sport with my daughter! Thanks guys!! As of 16 sept 2017 I returned to Hoffman to get my daughter setup on her first bow now. Bill was so patient with Emma who is 8. He got her a beautiful recurve and arrows fit to her draw length and it was all with in our budget. They hooked me up from the beginning introducing me to shooting a bow for the first time at the indoor range. They spent an hour and I wasn't even intending to buy that day. I returned a few weeks later for a Mathews Monster based solely on this generosity and professionalism. I highly recommend Hoffman's for the customer service and being just really personable individuals. They obvious love what they do. You definitely need a pro store if you are new to this sport. You need to be measured and matched to the right equipment. I bought a gift certificate for a private lesson for my 11 year old nephew. I wanted to give him something that was an experience that he could remember forever, and hopefully, an introduction to an activity that would keep him excited and help him focus. None of us had ever held a bow and arrow before. It was SUCH a great time! My nephew got to try out 3 different types of bows. Farrin is SUCH a great teacher. It was truly a joy just to watch him with the kids and other students, young and old alike.
