I have severe chronic pain but am deathly allergic to all opiates. I learned about low dose naltrexone and, while it Is not perfect, it is quite beneficial. I use Hoey to have my meds compounded and they send it to me via USPS, (I live over 30 minutes away, in the best of traffic) It is in capsule form. My most recent refill was changed to the same 1.5 mg dose but in tablet form - an itty, bitty 7mm tablet which is much more convenient, but, unfortunately didn't produce the same response as the capsule with the drug and filler. Why? who knows. The only thing that matters was that the tiny tablet had no effect on my pain. I spoke with someone at Hoey, then later Tim, about my situation. Tim graciously agreed to swap out my pill form back to capsule. Not only did he make the change, he personally delivered enough capsules to my home to hold me over until they could complete the order and mail it out. Hoey is located in Monona, a far east suburb I have no reason to go to and, again, more than a half hour drive one way. I live in Middleton where the distance to the city limits is waaay to far to travel, especially when you are in agony. Tim provided me with a ten day supply and said he would mail out the remainder of my prescription and adjust the price. He also retrieved the tablets that I had no use for. Called there and chatted with someone about some mixture my wife was taking that needed to be created. The person supposedly took down the info I was telling them of what I needed but I was wrong when he handed the phone off to someone else. Had to explain all over again what it was I needed. Then I started getting drilled with questions and he was quite rude. Do I became irritated with his line of questioning and assumptions. It's a good thing I wasn't there in person when he started getting mouthy with me. Typical apothecary, act as if you don't know squat even though I've worked in the "Real" medical field vs. the powders and essential oil mixtures. One of only a couple custom compounding pharmacies in the Madison area, I've been able to get medications here for both myself, as well as custom-compounded veterinary Rxs filled for my pets. They accept most major insurers. I'm a huge fan of Hoey, as in addition to having the meds I need, their customer service is top-notch. Their staff is friendly and always happy to answer your questions. In addition to being licensed pharmacists, their pharmacy staff also have specialized training in compounding techniques, hormone replacement therapy, and veterinary compounding. This has been a particular boon due to my food allergies (some of which end up in traditional medications, so I can't take them!) They also offer a mail-order service for the cost of shipping, which is really handy when I can't always drive across town to pick up my meds in a timely manner, and can just make a phone call instead! read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. Not a fan- at all. Send me to Walgreens anytime. I am very into natural remedies and holistic ways etc. My cat had a URI and needed antibiotics. The first time they were compounded incorrectly. The back room is filled with kids and does not seem hygienic. I pick up the new antibiotic a day later and am told to NOT refrigerate. They put a sticker on it saying to refrigerate.I have to call AGAIN to check and they say "actually they must have told you wrong, it does need refrigerated, we found out." So I have given my cat a dose of something that needed to be handled differently. if you want hemp treats sure go here but anything serious don't waste your time, money, or pets health. read more

I really want to like Hoey, but their service is abysmal. Twice this spring they have authorized credit card payment on a refill without calling me to confirm. I intentionally request in the refill submission that they call to confirm method of payment and mailing address. I do so because twice they have authorized payment on a credit card I did not want to use, and mailed the prescription to my ex's address in another state. Last time I was able to rush to the pharmacy and catch the package in their outgoing mail. This time, payment was again authorized without my permission, and again the refill was mailed to an old address that I did not enter into the refill request. What's more, I requested that the old address be removed from their system last October (and was told that it was done). Hoey is a terribly run business, and they have no motivation to improve because many of their customers have nowhere else to go. If you don't need low dose naltrexone, be thankful. If you didn't want to die because of your chronic illness, working with these people will change your mind. read more

Very helpful staff who, despite it being a busy time, took the time to fully explain a prescription I was picking up there & answer questions. They have a lab on site which allows them to compound meds (and therefore may be less expensive than other places that would have to order the same med) and they also offer regular prescriptions too. Be sure to ask when it will be ready though & don't just assume when it's called in it will be ready later that day - for example, my Rx took two days from when it was called in (not sure if this was due to lab time or supply ordering). read more

I appreciate not only being able to fill prescriptions but also the large selection of vitamins and other supplements. Poor customer service, inconsistent turnaround times and untrained staff. Turnaround used to be two days, now it's apparently six. My cat's pain medication was not ready three days after my vet phoned it in, and despite being told that my cat couldn't without it, the pharmacist would only say it would be another four days (the employee who was trying to help me was very nice). My previous experiences there have all been poor, too: when I asked about their various CBD oils and which would be best for my multiple sclerosis issues, I received vague answers that didn't even relate to the brands they carried. I wish my city had more options for compounding pharmacies. I am willing to drive hours away to Milwaukee to avoid going there again. It's a shame because they had the potential to be a great asset to this city. read more
