I have been using Hoeksema Electric for over 20 years for 2 different homes that I own. A few weeks ago, I called and told them that I was smelling a burning smell coming from an outlet in my kitchen, they came out within an hour. Good thing they did because when they got there Mike told me that the old cloth wiring behind my outlet was burned and still hot and that within a little bit of time it was on its way to causing a fire within the walls. I was mortified. What if I had let that go and didn't call when I did? He showed me the wire after he had pulled it out, and there were other pieces inside the wall that were burned as well. We had them remove all of the old cloth wiring, and the knob and tube on the 3rd floor and rewire the whole home. It was the best investment I have made, for the home, for my families safety and for my piece of mind. They've been telling us for years to rewire the home, that eventually that old cloth wiring causes a lot of problems, well... yeah... A Fire, possibly. Most of my close family and friends live in the Oak Park/River Forest area as well, and are in homes as old or older than mine, mine was built in 1928, so I told them the story and they called Hoeksema out to look at their wiring, and they had cloth and knob and tube as well, so they are having their homes rewired as well, my daughter is having hers done as we speak. People don't realize how important it is to keep their electrical up to code, they think, just as my husband and I did that if nothing is wrong, why fix it? I was recently referred to Hoekema by my neighbor over a Holiday weekend. RL Hoeksema came out that day, which was a Sunday and temporarily took care of the problem that day. They came back the following day, which was a Monday, pulled the necessary permits, got the work started and finished within a few days. My old cloth wiring was burning inside several outlets and switches, they disconnected it immediately and piped and pulled new wire. I am so happy I called them, no one else even answered the phones or called me back. Lisa answered immediately, spoke with me regarding the situation calming me down and had an electrician at my house within a couple of hours. They knew what they were doing, that is for sure. They estimated a time frame with a price and they were pretty accurate, given my home is over 100 years old and they warned me of unforeseen issues they may run into, which they did, but they were able to repair within the time frame given for that issue. Mike definitely knew what he was doing and I had minimal plaster damage. We called the Inspector, he came out, passed it with flying colors and complimented the quality of work RL Hoeksema did. Have been using Hoeksema for years. My friend is a neighbor of Carlene R. 12/05/13 complaint. My friend has been using Hoeksema as well as I have for over 20 years. I was actually at my friends house, who lives by Carlene, and the day that Carlene had her Final Inspection, in which passed with flying colors, I witnessed Carlene screaming, yelling and banging on the Hoeksema Electricians window. She also had unlicensed guys who called themselves Electricians doing work at the same time, and the Inspector explained to her that the problems were due to the other company, NOT Hoeksema or the work Hoeksema did, that it had nothing to do with Hoeksema. Hoeksema passed the inspection and therefore their work was completed. She is a very hard woman to please, she is always looking for something for nothing. I feel that it is terrible for her to write nasty reviews against such a Professional and Reliable company, that is why I felt the need to set the record straight. You will be very happy with the quality and professionalism Hoeksema offers, and honestly they are very reasonably priced. read more

Joe a 30 year veteran with Hoeksema, came out today and fixed a rather tricky to locate short I had in a capped off ceiling fixture in a livingroom, that managed to take out all the electric in our two bedrooms. Gotta love 100 year old wiring !!! Also gotta love an electrician with so much experience. Joe was very courteous and explained alot of interesting facts about how the house was wired. The home has been in our family since 1940, so I guess I'll keep her, especially now that I have an electrical company I can believe in. Three cheers for you Joe !!!! I was so happy to have my problem solved without any muss or fuss. So happy in fact that I had to squelch the urge to give him a big hug !!! Referred Hoeksema to my elderly neighbor and she wanted me to post a positive review on her behalf. Mary said that they came out quickly and resolved her problem immediately and saved her a lot of $ by taking care of a few other issues that she was having. She gave them an A++. She said that she was very comfortable with them in her home, she is elderly and lives alone and tends to worry about having Service Technicians in her home. I left a message and was very happy to have my call returned promptly. An appointment was scheduled for a time convenient for me. The electrician who came was very competent and expertly diagnosed the problems. I had no electric in the garage and was afraid the yard would have to be dug up so I did without it for a few years. It didn't. He also made some suggestions for safety improvements in our 66-year-old house. The price was very fair, too. read more

I have been taken advantage of before with different electrical contractors. I love this company! They tell me how it is and what I am going to expect with the service. Dan is excellent on the field. Takes the time to talk to me if I have any questions about the repair. When I called to make the appointment, the woman on the phone was very nice and provided excellent customer service. I've had many electricians over the 18 years we've lived here and when I finally found these guys, by way of my plumber, I was desperate but not optimistic. But they are the best.
