We didn't eat food. We went for wine tasting. I walked up to the hostess and said "HI, we've not be here before. Is there a certain area for just drinking wine?" Hostess, mind you, no hi, "Do you know if you're buying bottles?" Me: "No, we've not tried it. I guess probably not at this point." Hostess: "Everything is table service." Great service on a Saturday - welcomed and seated right away with a group of 6. We all popped in for wine and to check the winery out - wish we could have stayed for food as everything looked great. Not a huge fan of Ohio wines but they do a nice job here with mixing in other selections. The Cab Franc and Syrah were both decent! I really enjoyed our visit. We sat on the back covered patio along a tree lined lot and it was very nice and peaceful. I ordered a dry white wine flight and added a few extra little samples of things that sounded interesting- like a honeysuckle wine (great- but probably a bit sweet for me to drink an entire glass which I suspected going into it). My favorites were the Trillium and the Sauvignon Blanc. We picked up some bottles to take home, which also gave us 50% off the cost of the flight. My husband had a citrus IPA made by Hocking Hills Brewing. It was very refreshing. They have a variety of cheese plates available as well as pizzas. I made a mistake in ordering as I went for the "artisan" plate over the "explorer". The "artisan" is pretty basic grocery store level stuff. I saw a couple of the others go out and silently cursed my selective literacy that led me to overlook the difference between "meats and cheeses" and "gourmet meats and cheeses". Don't be me. We were on our way home from an overnight visit to Hocking Hills State Park, and decided to stop here for lunch. What a great choice! We sat out under an umbrella on the patio. The ambiance was peaceful and relaxing...the perfect place to celebrate my friend's birthday! We each ordered wine flights, and had a charcuterie tray along with splitting a pizza. The hummus and olive tapenade was some of the best I have ever eaten! And the pita bread was so delicious. Our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly and very accommodating. My group of friends and I enjoyed this winery. First off, our server was super upbeat, charming and had a good sense of humor. We all so appreciated the beautifully decorated atmosphere with plenty of seating options. We didn't eat here but thought the wine was decent. Some of their wine is grown/produced locally, and some of it comes from out of state (definitely go with out of state options). Finally, check out their merch if you have time. Stopped in on a Friday night with a large group. Of note they don't have great patio seating near heaters for big groups, so if stopping in cooler weather expect to sit inside. The waiter was attentive and enthusiastic. The wine itself isn't great. I got the flight - which I would recommend so you don't get stuck with a full glass or bottle you don't enjoy. The pizza however was delicious! Thin crust, and several fun topping options. Definitely the star of the night. I opted for a wine flight, which has 4 or 6 samples of wines in a fun wine carousel, and opted for two wine slushies (yes--SLUSHIES, of which the peach and raspberry flavors are excellent), as well as four of their sweeter wines. Beyond their selection being extensive, local, AND delicious, this winery does everyone a favor by listing out the flavor notes for each wine. It helped me pick out a delicious wine that was described as tasting like raspberry jam, and by golly, it did. On a beautiful day the patio at Hocking Hills Winery is the place to be. The general atmosphere combined with the natural beauty of the area makes it an absolute TO-DO if you're in town. Our server was very helpful and patient with us as we decided on what wines to choose for our flights. The atmosphere was wonderful but the food was average and wine was awful. The wine is the reason we are writing this review. My wife and I love dry red wine and drink plenty of it! We both ordered the 6 glass flight with all of their dry red wines and couldn't enjoy any of them as they were all very sour. I understand not liking one or two of them but we tried all of their dry reds on our flights and they were all sour. They all had very strange smells to them as well. Not the typical. We stopped by Hocking Hills Winery after a morning of hiking in Hocking Hills State park. It was definitely worth a visit. They have a good amount of seating inside, but an even more extensive seating outside, lovely on a fall day. We really liked the fire pit area. They also allow dogs outside. Of the wineries we went to in the area, I liked their wine the best. I'm not into sweet wine, which is what the area is known for, but found a couple I liked. The friends I was with like sweeter wine and they found several they really liked. They also have snacks/charcuterie boards. Came here with our big bachelorette group. They were super accommodating for a big party (since they don't take reservations) and they were able to seat almost right away. Our waitress was great with splitting everything between everyone (we had split 2 charcuterie boards) the wine is pretty good! I had a six glass wine flight for 15$, it was nice to try a good mix of things. I highly recommend the wine slushees if you don't really like wine! The raspberry & the peach ones were my favorite. However, the pizzas (which is much of the menu) are only ok and maybe a little pricey for what you get. The wine can be purchased in flights that are also reasonably priced...but I haven't found any that really stand out...of course that is my palate, you may find some you love. We like dry whites and bold reds. They were all good. Many were award winning with a few having picked up some impressive medals. We picked up 4 bottles including the last two Pinot Noirs they had.
